Topical treatments to modulate hair growth are generally limited by low drug bioavailability due to poor skin permeability. Here, we studied the use of STAR particles, which are millimeter-sized ceramic particles with protruding microneedles, to form micropores in the skin to increase skin permeability to hair growth-modulating drugs. PURPOSE: The occurrence of surgical site infection (SSI) after lumbar spinal fusion is a serious complication. Therefore, an increasing number of clinicians are applying vancomycin powder topically in the surgical field to reduce the incidence of SSI. However, there is concern that topical vancomycin powder application may affect intervertebral fusion. The purpose of this study was to analyse the effect of clinically relevant topical vancomycin doses on the rate of intervertebral fusion after lumbar fusion and to further investigate the effect of vancomycin powder on the prevention of SSI.

Orthodontic and periodontic management of a patient with bilaterally impacted maxillary canines and advanced resorption of the adjacent lateral incisors is presented. In treating the patient, the affected laterals were retained and the canines were surgically exposed, then moved away from the roots of the laterals and into position in the arch. Alternative treatment strategies are discussed. Long-term follow-up evaluation revealed successful maintenance of the dentition and of periodontal health.
