Low-valent aluminum chemistry continues to expand the boundaries of main-group reactivity, yet the selective generation and transfer of Al(ii) fragments remain underexplored. Controlled Al(ii) transfer may establish a basis for selective substrate alumination and subsequent functionalization. More broadly, findings in the field offer conceptual guidance for the development of synthetically and potentially catalytically relevant main-group platforms. Here, we now show that heterometals can act as structural templates that tame and direct Al(ii) reactivity within covalent Al/Cd frameworks. The t

Background: Pathological activation of oxidative metabolism is a universal catalyst for liver parenchyma destruction. While physiological pools of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (ROS/RNS) regulate hepatic regeneration and cellular respiration, decompensation of endogenous antioxidant systems induces cascading damage across hepatocytes, sinusoidal endothelial cells, Kupffer macrophages, and hepatic stellate cells. Current therapies against liver fibrosis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma remain suboptimal, necessitating the identification of novel, druggable molecular targets. Focu

During the production and use of plastics, rubber and other food contact materials, free radicals may be generated, which may lead to material aging. In order to alleviate this situation, antioxidants are usually added in the manufacturing process to prevent oxidation reactions, thereby extending the service life. 3-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyanisole (3-BHA) is a synthetic monophenolic antioxidant and isomer of butyl hydroxyanisole, which has been widely used in the food industry. In this study, we combined the method of network toxicology and found that 3-BHA may affect the expression of AURKB, AURK

Oxidative stress, which results from the accumulation of free radicals, plays a substantial role in cataract formation. Antioxidants have shown promise in mitigating or even preventing this process. However, delivering antioxidants noninvasively to the anterior segment of the eye has been a significant challenge. In this study, we developed ceria nanoparticles modified with cyclic cell-penetrating peptides to overcome the obstruction of the dense corneal barrier on topical drug delivery. Our results demonstrated that modified ceria nanoparticles with cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) facilitate

Poorly crystalline iron (Fe) oxides often accumulate on rice root surfaces, forming Fe plaque. While this plaque has been implicated in soil organic carbon (SOC) transformation, its specific role in regulating SOC mineralization is still insufficiently understood. In this study, we hypothesize that Fe plaque induces the generation of hydroxyl radicals (•OH), which disrupt the "enzyme latch" mechanism and promote CO2 emissions. The results showed that seedlings with Fe plaque showed a 150% higher •OH concentration, 50% higher laccase activity, 25% higher SOC mineralization rate, and 20% lower p

Neonatal medicine advancements have significantly improved preterm infants’ survival rates, yet optimizing their neurodevelopmental outcomes, is challenging. A central factor in these challenges is oxidative stress (OS), arising from an imbalance between free radicals (FRs) production and antioxidant defense mechanisms. In preterm infants, OS is particularly detrimental due to their underdeveloped antioxidant systems, high brain metabolic demands, immature blood-brain barrier (BBB), and increased vulnerability to inflammation and hypoxia. This review focuses on the multifaceted aspects of OS c

Hydrogen therapy has shown significant promise in improving wound healing by mitigating oxidative stress and inflammation. However, its therapeutic efficacy is constrained by limited delivery methods and insufficient bioavailability of hydrogen at wound sites. Herein, we design NIR-light triggered in situ gelation platform comprising ternary polymer dots as the photocatalyst, ascorbic acid as an electron mediator, and poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) as the polymeric matrix. The blended components of ternary Pdots enable the extended light absorption and cascading energy level alignmen

As a frontline chemotherapeutic agent for colorectal cancer, oxaliplatin (OXA) exhibits significantly reduced therapeutic efficacy and may induce severe adverse effects, primarily due to limited targeting capacity and impaired drug penetration within the hypoxic tumor microenvironment (TME). To address this challenge, an iron-based metal-organic framework (MOF) was engineered to co-load OXA and glucose oxidase (GOx). This MOF was subsequently immobilized onto the surface of anaerobic Bifidobacterium infantis (Bif). Leveraging the inherent homing capacity of Bif, a self-propelled biohybrid desi

Improving the targeting of nanomedicines in cancer diagnosis and treatment can not only greatly enhance the drug efficacy, but also reduce the systemic toxicity of drugs. The design of cellulose-based nanomaterials with targeted recognition and stimulatory response to overexpressed CD44 receptor and glutathione (GSH) in the cell membrane and cytoplasm of cancer cells, respectively, can significantly improve the targeting effect and reduce the biotoxicity due to the two-site recognition effect. Herein, carboxylated nanocellulose as a carrier to covalently graft with disulfide-modified anthocyan

In recent years, research has shown that oxidative stress plays a significant role in chronic inflammatory conditions. The alteration of the oxidant/antioxidant balance leads to the appearance of free radicals, important molecules involved in both diabetes mellitus and periodontal disease. Diabetes is considered to be one of the major risk factors of periodontal disease and the inflammation characterizing this condition is associated with oxidative stress, implicitly resulting in oxidative damage to DNA. 8-Hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) is the most common stable product of oxidative DNA damage
