Leveraging deep learning models to understand the daily experience of anxiety in teenagers over the course of a year.

INTRODUCTION: Anxiety disorders are a prevalent and severe problem that are often developed early in life and can disrupt the daily lives of affected individuals for many years into adulthood. Given the persistent negative aspects of anxiety, accurate and early assessment is critical for long term outcomes. Currently, the most common method for anxiety assessment is through point-in-time measures like the GAD-7. Unfortunately, this survey and others like it can be subject to recall bias and do not fully capture the variability in an individual's day-to-day symptom experience. The current work

Perceived health among individuals with panic disorder: associations with affective vulnerability and psychiatric disability.

The present investigation evaluated the predictive nature of perceived physical health in relation to affective vulnerability and psychiatric disability among individuals with panic disorder. Participants included 39 individuals (Mage = 25.86; 69% female) with a primary diagnosis of panic disorder (with and without agoraphobia) recruited through the general community. As expected, poor physical health perceptions are significantly related to greater panic disorder severity and higher levels of anxiety sensitivity (fear of anxiety). Poorer perceived health also predicted higher levels of negati

Longitudinal analysis of subjective quality of life in schizophrenia: anxiety as the best symptom predictor.

We examined the relationships among changes in anxiety, depression, core symptoms of schizophrenia, and subjective quality of life (QL) longitudinally. Fifty-three stabilized outpatients diagnosed with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder were assessed for QL and symptoms every 3 months for a period of 1 year. Using mixed effects models, we found that changes in anxiety, as rated on the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale, were inversely associated with general life satisfaction and satisfaction with many specific domains. These relationships were stronger than the relationships of QL and any

Anxiety in adults with asthma during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic: a Canadian perspective.

BACKGROUND: Asthma is a chronic airway inflammatory disease that affects millions of Canadians and often contributes to higher levels of anxiety among patients. Since the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic was a time of increased anxiety and fear among the Canadian population, it was thought that those with asthma may experience heightened anxiety levels due to uncertain access to care, the potential to misinterpret asthma symptoms for symptoms of COVID-19 (or vice versa), and the concern about being treated differently by those around them when experiencing asthma symptoms. Therefor

Chinese version of the Perceived Stress Scale-10: A psychometric study in Chinese university students.

Chinese university students often suffer from acute stress, which can affect their mental health. We measured and evaluated perceived stress in this population using the Simplified Chinese version of the 10-item Perceived Stress Scale (SCPSS-10). The SCPSS-10, Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ), and Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale (GAD-7) were conducted in 1096 university students. Two weeks later, 129 participants were re-tested using the SCPSS-10. Exploratory factor analysis yielded two factors with Eigen values of 4.76 and 1.48, accounting for 62.41% of the variance. Confirmatory

Delineating the Role of Negative Verbal Thinking in Promoting Worry, Perceived Threat, and Anxiety.

Worry is characterized by streams of verbal thoughts about potential negative outcomes. Individuals with high levels of worry (and particularly those with generalized anxiety disorder) find it very difficult to control worry once it has started. What is not clear is the extent to which verbal negative thinking style maintains worry. Our study aimed to disentangle the effects of verbal versus imagery based thinking, and negative versus positive worry-related content on subsequent negative intrusive thoughts. High worriers were trained to engage in imagery or verbal processing, focusing on eithe

Threat processing in generalized social phobia: an investigation of interpretation biases in ambiguous facial affect.

Facial affect is one of the most important information sources during the course of social interactions, but it is susceptible to distortion due to the complex and dynamic nature. Socially anxious individuals have been shown to exhibit alterations in the processing of social information, such as an attentional and interpretative bias toward threatening information. This may be one of the key factors contributing to the development and maintenance of anxious psychopathology. The aim of the current study was to investigate whether a threat-related interpretation bias is evident for ambiguous fac
