Management of multiple drug hypersensitivity in a child with very severe aplastic anemia: a case report and therapeutic challenge.

This work presents the case of a pediatric patient with very severe aplastic anemia (VSAA) who developed severe hypersensitivity reactions sequentially to a carbapenem antibiotic and subsequently to intravenous levofloxacin during an episode of severe neutropenia with fever. This case illustrates that serious drug hypersensitivity reactions can occur even in the context of profound immunosuppression. In managing this complex scenario, the Naranjo Algorithm was utilized to identify the culprit medications. When adjusting the anti-infective regimen, we carefully balanced the benefits and risks,

The Recent Research Progress On Cadmium-Induced Kidney Injury.

Kidney diseases are a group of disorders that cause kidney damage, characterized by renal dysfunction, pathological changes in renal tissue, and abnormal components in blood or urine. A plethora of factors have been identified as causes of renal diseases, including cadmium exposure. Cadmium is an environmental pollutant, and excessive intake of cadmium in the human body can result in cadmium poisoning. Accumulating evidence has demonstrated that cadmium exposure is a contributing factor to the development of kidney diseases. The associated symptoms include damage to the renal tubules and glome

Recent advances in changes in the infrapatellar fat pad on MRI to predict osteoarthritis of the knee.

Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a very common degenerative disease occurring in middle-aged and elderly patients. Early diagnosis of knee OA is currently difficult, and it is particularly important to find new predictors of early knee OA. The infrapatellar fat pad (IPFP), as an adipose tissue, plays a role in the occurrence and development of knee OA. Currently, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology can sensitively observe changes in the volume, signal intensity, and perfusion of the IPFP. Observation of IPFP changes can play a certain role in predicting the occurrence of early knee OA. In t

Research Progress on Anti-Hyperlipidemia Peptides Derived from Foods.

Hyperlipidemia is a metabolic disorder in which cholesterol (TC) and triglycerides (TGs) in the blood exceed the normal physiological levels. The incidence of the condition has continued to rise in recent years, posing a serious threat to public health. Its clinical treatment mainly relies on drug interventions, such as statins, fibrate, and niacin. Although these drugs have shown some efficacy in the treatment of hyperlipidemia, their adverse effects cannot be ignored. In contrast, naturally derived peptides have gradually become potential candidates for the prevention and treatment of hyperl

Heterogeneous tissue-specific macrophages orchestrate metastatic organotropism of breast cancer: implications for promising therapeutics.

Compelling evidences have manifested that breast cancer cells prefer to metastasize to certain distant organs, including brain, lung, bone and liver. According to the canonical "seed and soil" theory, this prominent biological behavior, termed as metastatic organotropism, involves intricate interactions between breast cancer cells (the "seeds") and specific residents in the tumor microenvironment (the "soil"), initiating from pre-metastatic niche formation to metastatic outgrowth. Recently, multifaceted heterogeneity of tissue-specific macrophages (TSMs) and their roles played in organotropic

Neutrophils and COVID-19.

Neutrophils are the first line of defense against pathogens, most effectively by forming Neutrophil Extracellular Traps (NETs). Neutrophiles are further classified into several subpopulations during their development, eliminating pathogens through various mechanisms. However, due to the chaotic and uncontrolled immune response, NETs are often severely resulting in tissue damage and lung infections. The uncontrolled and poorly acknowledged host response regarding the cytokine storm is one of the major causes of severe COVID-19 conditions. Specifically, the increased formation of low-density neu

[Expert consensus on skull defect reconstruction after decompressive craniectomy in children (2025 edition)].

Children with skull defects after decompressive craniectomy face issues such as lack of brain protection and aesthetics during the recovery period, which also affect the recovery of brain structure and function and hinder subsequent rehabilitation. The skull of pediatric patients is still in the growth and development stage, with head circumference changing with age, and there are characteristics such as easy bone hyperplasia and absorption. Therefore, the timing, materials, methods and other problems of skull reconstruction for pediatric patients have always been puzzling clinical practice. T

What the future holds: cystic fibrosis and aging.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is one of the most common genetic diseases with around 70,000 affected patients worldwide. CF is a multisystem disease caused by a mutation in the CF transmembrane conductance regulator gene, which has led to a significant decrease in life expectancy and a marked impairment in the quality of life for people with CF (pwCF). In recent years, the use of highly effective CFTR modulator therapy (HEMT) has led to improved pulmonary function, fewer CF exacerbations, lower symptom burden, and increased weight. This has coincided with an increased life expectancy for pwCF, with mea

Overview of the Use of Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography in Neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration.

The aim of this review is to present and discuss the use of optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in age-related macular degeneration (AMD). OCTA is a non-invasive imaging procedure that gives a detailed indirect view of physiological and pathological vessels in the retina and choroid membrane. Compared with dye-based imaging, OCTA provides a segmented presentation of the individual vascular layers and plexuses, thus enabling previously unattainable differentiation and classification of pathological vascular changes within or underneath the retina. In particular, OCTA facilitates ear

Insights in Nutrition to Optimize Type 1 Diabetes Therapy.

Nutrition is an essential part of therapy for type 1 diabetes and is constantly evolving, offering growing opportunities to prevent this disease, slow down its evolution, and mitigate it. An attempt was made to bring together the current state of knowledge. In the path from the preclinical phase of the disease to its clinical onset, there is a phase known as the "honeymoon period" or partial remission, where different possible dietary options for combatting this disease have been presented. The most commonly used dietary models were compared, and the most frequent co-existing pathologies, such

Clinical Pharmacology in Sarcoidosis: How to Use and Monitor Sarcoidosis Medications.

When sarcoidosis needs treatment, pharmacotherapy is usually required. Although glucocorticoids work reliably and relatively quickly for sarcoidosis, these drugs are associated with numerous significant side effects. Such side effects are common in sarcoidosis patients, as the disease frequently has a chronic course and glucocorticoid treatment courses are often prolonged. For these reasons, corticosteroid-sparing and corticosteroid-replacing therapies are often required for sarcoidosis. Unfortunately, many healthcare providers who care for sarcoidosis patients are not familiar with the use of
