Solitary subdural osteoma: A case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Subdural osteomas are benign neoplasms that are rarely encountered. We report the case of a 64‑year‑old female patient with a left temporal subdural osteoma. CASE DESCRIPTION: The patient presented with intermittent dizziness that first began two years earlier. Non-contrast computed tomography revealed a densely calcified left temporal extra-axial mass. Magnetic resonance imaging of the lesion revealed signal loss on T1-weighted and T2-weighted images and non-enhancement on Gadolinium enhanced T1-weighted images, and diffusion-weighted and ADC images demonstrated reduced values at

Supratentorial gangliocytoma mimicking extra-axial tumor: a report of two cases.

We report two cases of supratentorial gangliocytomas mimicking an extra-axial tumor. MR imaging indicated that the tumors were extra-axial, and meningiomas were thus initially diagnosed. Relative to gray matter, the tumors were hypointense on T1-weighted images and hyperintense on T2-weighted images. On contrast-enhanced T1-weighted images, homogeneous enhancement was observed, while CT scanning revealed calcification in one of the two cases.

Threshold selection criteria for quantification of lumbosacral cerebrospinal fluid and root volumes from MRI.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The high variability of CSF volumes partly explains the inconsistency of anesthetic effects, but may also be due to image analysis itself. In this study, criteria for threshold selection are anatomically defined. METHODS: T2 MR images (n = 7 cases) were analyzed using 3-dimentional software. Maximal-minimal thresholds were selected in standardized blocks of 50 slices of the dural sac ending caudally at the L5-S1 intervertebral space (caudal blocks) and middle L3 (rostral blocks). Maximal CSF thresholds: threshold value was increased until at least one voxel in a CSF ar

[Traumatic cord and nerve root injuries: imaging features at the acute and chronic phases].

Cord injuries are frequent and severe lesions resulting in significant disability, most frequently in younger subjects. The area of cord injured results in clinical syndromes (Brown-Sequard, motor and/or sensory deficit...). Cord and rootlet injuries are best depicted on MRI. Diffusion tensor imaging with tractography enables depiction of the most severe cord lesions and some prediction of tissue viability which may provide an idea of the potential functional prognosis and patient recovery. MRI is optimal to demonstrate areas of cord hemorrhage or compression, partial or complete cord transsec

Cone-beam imaging in dentistry.

Cone-beam imaging has gained broad acceptance in dentistry in the last 5 years. The purpose of this review is to describe the use in dentistry and consider issues requiring further development. Cone-beam machines emit an x-ray beam shaped liked a cone rather than a fan as in conventional computed tomography (CT) machines. After this beam passes through the patient the remnant beam is captured on an amorphous silicon flat panel or image intensifier/charge-coupled device (CCD) detector. The beam diameter ranges from 4 to 30 cm and exposes the head in one pass around the patient capturing from 16

Assessment of response of uterine fibroids and myometrium to embolization using diffusion-weighted echoplanar MR imaging.

Our objective was to evaluate the role of echoplanar diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) maps in the assessment of response of uterine fibroids and myometrium to uterine fibroid embolization (UFE). We evaluated 32 fibroids in 11 patients treated with UFE. Treated lesions had low ADC values compared to untreated lesions. Furthermore, ADC values of the myometrium did not significantly change after embolization, suggesting maintained myometrial viability after embolization. DWI and ADC maps, by providing functional information at a cellular level, may serve a

Morphology of the inner structure of the hippocampal formation in Alzheimer disease.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: To our knowledge, inner structural alterations of the hippocampus have never been demonstrated because of the lack of contrast between the hippocampus proper and the superficial medullary lamina. We sought to demonstrate the anatomic details of the inner hippocampus and to elucidate its alterations in Alzheimer disease (AD) in vivo. METHODS: We obtained multishot diffusion- and T2-weighted MR images in 14 healthy control subjects and 26 patients with mild or moderate AD (diagnosis based on Mini-Mental Status Examination scores). We measured the width of the subiculum,

[Atlas of enhancement patterns in contrast-enhanced mammographyy].

Contrast-enhanced mammography is an increasingly used breast imaging technique that offers significant advantages in terms of accessibility, patient tolerance, and cost. Its diagnostic performance has been shown to be comparable to that of breast magnetic resonance imaging, particularly for the detection and characterization of enhancing lesions. Given its growing clinical relevance, this article aims to illustrate the main enhancement patterns encountered in contrast-enhanced mammography and to compare them with their corresponding appearances on breast MRI.

[Magnetic resonance angiography of the head and neck area].

Magnetic resonance angiography is a noninvasive method in vascular imaging using non-contrast-enhanced and contrast-enhanced techniques. The contrast media used in contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography are different from the X-ray contrast media and do not affect the thyroid gland or renal function. In detecting hyper-vascularized lesions in the head and neck, contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography is the method of choice, which provides an acceptable quality in comparison to digital subtraction angiography. Future developments in magnetic resonance imaging techniques will

Contrast-enhanced ultrasonography combined with microbubbles for uterine disorders: Current trends and future perspectives.

Uterine disorders, including fibroids, polyps, and carcinomas, represent significant health concerns for women. Conventional diagnostic methods, including ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging, often lack the sensitivity required to accurately delineate and evaluate these lesions. Consequently, there is a growing need for advanced imaging techniques to enhance both diagnostic precision and therapeutic decision-making. Standard imaging modalities typically provide low resolution, limiting their effectiveness in evaluating uterine pathology and determining optimal treatment strategies. In th

Application of Imaging Examination Based on Deep Learning in the Diagnosis of Viral Senile Pneumonia.

Medical image classification technology, preferably which is based on the deep learning, is not only a key auxiliary diagnosis and treatment method in clinical medicine but also an important direction of scientific research. With the intensification of social aging, the incidence of viral elderly pneumonia has been on the rise and needs dedication from the research community. Doctors rely on personal theories and experience to use traditional methods to check the computed tomography (CT) images of the lungs of elderly patients one by one, which is likely to cause diagnosis errors. The accuracy
