Knowledge of schoolteachers on learning disabilities in urban Vellore - A cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Specific learning disability (SLD) is a cognitive neurobiological disorder caused by atypical brain functioning. SLD is recognized when the individual's achievement in school is below that expected for age, schooling, and level of intelligence. Screening millions of students with SLD by health personnel is a logistical impossibility. Awareness and knowledge about learning disorders among schoolteachers may play a major role in the early identification and management of children with these disorders. Therefore, the assessment of teachers' knowledge and perceptions about learning dis

Reimagining leprosy elimination with AI analysis of a combination of skin lesion images with demographic and clinical data.

BACKGROUND: Leprosy is an infectious disease that mostly affects underserved populations. Although it has been largely eliminated, still about 200'000 new patients are diagnosed annually. In the absence of a diagnostic test, clinical diagnosis is often delayed, potentially leading to irreversible neurological damage and its resulting stigma, as well as continued transmission. Accelerating diagnosis could significantly contribute to advancing global leprosy elimination. Digital and Artificial Intelligence (AI) driven technology has shown potential to augment health workers abilities in making f

Enhanced forecasting of friction and cohesion of augmented unsaturated soil with nanostructured quarry fines (NQF) addition.

Shear strength parameters such as friction angle and cohesion are fundamental to solving geotechnical engineering problems related to slope stability, foundation design, and earthwork construction. This study presents the prediction of friction angle (Fi) and cohesion (Nc) of an unsaturated lateritic soil using three intelligent learning techniques: Support Vector Machine (SVM), Radial Basis Function (RBF), and Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), with Linear Multivariate Regression (LMR) adopted as a baseline model to evaluate agreement between input and output variables. The motivation for employing

Detecting Incisional Surgical Site Infections on Wound Images Through Deep Learning.

IMPORTANCE: Surgical site infections (SSIs) are common postoperative complications, often detected after patients leave the hospital, especially in times of modern fast-track recovery protocols. At-home monitoring through telemedicine can shorten delay to diagnosis. Manual wound image review in telemedicine is time-consuming, shows interobserver variability, and may miss early signs. OBJECTIVE: To develop and externally validate a deep learning model to detect wounds suggestive of SSIs from wound photographs. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This diagnostic/prognostic study involved the de

Evidence Drift and Causal Maturation Drift in Pediatric Health Research: A Dual-Drift Framework and Preliminary Appraisal Instruments for Inferential Fidelity.

Pediatric health research must translate evidence into decisions that affect children's development, safety, function, and long-term well-being. Scientific progress can still fail in two opposing ways: claims may exceed their evidentiary support, or research programs may remain productive while repeatedly refining an established signal without resolving decision-relevant uncertainty. These risks are amplified by developmental heterogeneity, ethical constraints, surrogate or short-term outcomes, long follow-up, and caregiver-mediated implementation. This concept paper formalizes these failures

A Gated Attention-Based Multiple Instance Learning and Test-Time Augmentation Approach for Diagnosing Active Sacroiliitis in Sacroiliac Joint MRI Scans.

Background and Objective: Axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) is a group of chronic inflammatory diseases that primarily affect the sacroiliac joints. Early diagnosis is crucial for preventing irreversible structural damage. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is the gold standard for detecting early inflammatory changes such as sacroiliitis. However, conventional MRI interpretation is inherently subjective and susceptible to both intra- and inter-observer variability. Therefore, artificial intelligence (AI)-driven diagnostic solutions are increasingly being explored. Among them, the Gated Attention

Diagnostic Accuracy of an Offline CNN Framework Utilizing Multi-View Chest X-Rays for Screening 14 Co-Occurring Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases.

Background: Chest radiography is the most widely used diagnostic imaging modality globally, yet its interpretation is hindered by a critical shortage of radiologists, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The interpretation is both time-consuming and error-prone in high-volume settings. Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems trained on public data may lack generalizability to multi-view, real-world, local images. Deep learning tools have the potential to augment radiologists by providing real-time decision support by overcoming these. Objective: We evaluated the diagnostic accu

Artificial Intelligence of Arterial Doppler Waveforms to Predict Major Adverse Outcomes Among Patients Evaluated for Peripheral Artery Disease.

BACKGROUND: Patients with peripheral artery disease are at increased risk for major adverse cardiac events, major adverse limb events, and all-cause death. Developing tools capable of identifying those patients with peripheral artery disease at greatest risk for major adverse events is the first step for outcome prevention. This study aimed to determine whether computer-assisted analysis of a resting Doppler waveform using deep neural networks can accurately identify patients with peripheral artery disease at greatest risk for adverse outcome events. METHODS AND RESULTS: Consecutive patients
