Predicting IVF outcome in poor ovarian responders.

BACKGROUND: Poor responders to ovarian stimulation are one of the most challenging populations to treat. As a failed cycle can cause a considerable emotional and economical loss, adequate fertility counseling addressing patients' expectations are highly important when facing patients with poor ovarian response. The study aimed to evaluate reproductive outcomes and to identify factors associated with live birth (LB) after fresh autologous IVF/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) cycles of patients fulfilling the Bologna criteria for poor ovarian response (POR). METHODS: A retrospective stud

A survey of stroke-related capabilities among a sample of US community emergency departments.

OBJECTIVES: Most acute stroke research is conducted at academic and larger hospitals, which may differ from many non-academic (ie, community) and smaller hospitals with respect to resources and consultant availability. We describe current emergency department (ED) and hospital-level stroke-related capabilities among a sample of community EDs participating in the Emergency Quality Network (E-QUAL) stroke collaborative. METHODS: Among E-QUAL-participating EDs, we conducted a survey to collect data on ED and hospital stroke-related structural and process capabilities associated with quality of s

An evaluation of the feasibility of implementing a novel tobacco dependence treatment program for high-risk individuals into clinical practice within a community mental health center.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with serious mental illnesses experience deaths related to smoking at a higher prevalence than individuals without a psychotic-spectrum disorders. Traditional smoking cessation programs are often not effective among individuals with chronic mental disorders. Little is known about how to implement a tobacco cessation treatment program for this at-risk population within a community health center. The current study used qualitative methods to examine the factors that may enhance or impede the delivery of a novel tobacco cessation treatment for smokers with a psychotic-spec

Predicting Housing Related Delayed Discharge from Mental Health Inpatient Units: A Case Control Study.

The aims of this study were to identify factors that a) predict whether people experience housing related discharge delay (HRDD) from a mental health inpatient unit; and b) predict the length of HRDD for people affected. By identifying the groups most affected by HRDD, clinicians and policy makers can prioritise and address barriers to timely discharge at both an individual and systemic level. A case control study using a detailed medical record review was conducted in one Australian mental health service. Demographic, clinical, contextual and systemic variables were collected for patients wit

Culturally tailored substance use interventions for Indigenous people of North America: a systematic review.

PURPOSE–: The purpose of the current study is to conduct a systematic review of peer-reviewed work on culturally tailored interventions for alcohol and drug use in Indigenous adults in North America. Substance use has been reported as a health concern for many Indigenous communities. Indigenous groups experienced the highest drug overdose death rates in 2015, the largest percentage increase in the number of deaths over time from 1999 to 2015 compared to any other racial group. However, few Indigenous individuals report participating in treatment for alcohol or drug use, which may reflect the l

Hepatitis C virus in people with serious mental illness: an analysis of the care cascade at a tertiary health service with a pilot 'identify and treat' strategy.

BACKGROUND: People with serious mental illness (SMI) are underserved from a hepatitis C virus (HCV) screening and treatment perspective. AIMS: To examine the HCV care cascade in people with SMI and to pilot a supported HCV treatment integration programme. METHODS: HCV prevalence was retrospectively analysed from 4492 consecutive individuals admitted to a tertiary hospital mental health service between January 2017 and December 2018. Subcohort analysis of screening patterns and predictors of seropositive infection was performed. Referral pathways and community care integration were analysed f

Investigating the impact of structural racism on black birthing people - associations between racialized economic segregation, incarceration inequality, and severe maternal morbidity.

Black birthing people are twice as likely to experience severe maternal morbidity (SMM) as their white counterparts. Structural racism provides a framework for understanding root causes of perinatal health disparities. Our objective was to investigate associations between measures of structural racism and severe maternal morbidity (SMM) among Black birthing people in the US. We linked delivery hospitalizations for Black birthing people in the National Inpatient Sample (2008-2011) with data from the American Community Survey 5-year estimates and the Vera Institute of Justice Incarceration Trend

Therapeutic drug monitoring for cytotoxic anticancer drugs: Principles and evidence-based practices.

Cytotoxic drugs are highly efficacious and also have low therapeutic index. A great degree of caution needs to be exercised in their usage. To optimize the efficacy these drugs need to be given at maximum tolerated dose which leads to significant amount of toxicity to the patient. The fine balance between efficacy and safety is the key to the success of cytotoxic chemotherapeutics. However, it is possibly more rewarding to obtain that balance for this class drugs as the frequency of drug related toxicities are higher compared to the other therapeutic class and are potentially life threatening

An Innovative Method for BTEX Emission Inventory and Development of Mitigation Measures in Developing Countries-A Case Study: Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) are carcinogenic pollutants. However, the average concentration in 1 h of some pollutants belonging to BTEX, such as benzene, in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) is higher than the national standard QCVN 06:2009/BTNMT by about ten times. This research is the first to calculate the emission of BTEX for developing countries on a city scale. This paper developed a method to calculate cold emission factors based on hot emission factors for BTEX. Five spreadsheets developed and calculated these cold emission factors for five vehicle categories. A comprehens

A robust quantitative approach for laser speckle contrast imaging perfusion analysis revealed anomalies in the brain blood flow in offspring mice of preeclampsia.

Microcirculation analysis of the brain cortex is challenging because surface perfusion varies rapidly in small space-time regions and is bone protected. The laser speckle contrast imaging (LSCI) technique allows analyzing in vivo brain vascular perfusion generating a large amount of data that requires sophisticated data analytics, making researchers invest much effort in processing. Our research question was whether the reduced placental perfusion model (RUPP) of preeclampsia (PE) was associated with impaired blood perfusion in the offspring's brains. We aimed to develop a robust numerical app

The dataset of Japanese patents and patents' holding firms in green vehicle powertrains field.

In 2020, the Government of Japan declared "2050 carbon neutral" and launched a long-term strategy to create a "virtuous cycle of economy and environment". Japanese firms possess many technologies that contribute to decarbonization, which is important to expand investment for Green Technology (environmental technology) development. As automobiles are major contributors to greenhouse gas emissions [1], the technological shift towards vehicle powertrain systems is an attempt to lower problems like emissions of carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides [2]. On the other hand, patent data are the most reliab

The efficiency of removing heavy metal ions from industrial electropolishing wastewater using natural materials.

Heavy metals are present in wastewater generated by industrial sectors, posing a threat to the environment, including surface and groundwater resources. With this in mind, there is a growing interest in finding alternative yet effective methods of removing heavy metal ions from industrial wastewater. Sorption is one of the techniques being readily applied due to the simplicity, high efficiency, production of small amounts of sludge, low investment, and the feasibility of the process over a wide range of pH and temperature. This paper deals with the treatment of industrial wastewater from elect

Cascade of decisions meet personal preferences in sciatica treatment decisions.

STUDY DESIGN: An in-depth interview study including patients, general practitioners, neurologists and neurosurgeons. OBJECTIVE: To gain insight in decision-making in sciatica care, by identifying patients' and physicians' preferences for treatment options, and the differences between and within both groups. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Sciatica is a self-limiting condition, which can be treated both conservatively and surgically. The value of both options has been disputed, and the care pathway is known for a substantial amount of practice variation. Most Dutch patients are taken care of by g

The Arrangement of the Peripheral Olfactory System of Pleuragramma antarcticum: A Well-Exploited Small Sensor, an Aided Water Flow, and a Prominent Effort in Primary Signal Elaboration.

The olfactory system is constituted in a consistent way across vertebrates. Nasal structures allow water/air to enter an olfactory cavity, conveying the odorants to a sensory surface. There, the olfactory neurons form, with their axons, a sensory nerve projecting to the telencephalic zone-named the olfactory bulb. This organization comes with many different arrangements, whose meaning is still a matter of debate. A morphological description of the olfactory system of many teleost species is present in the literature; nevertheless, morphological investigations rarely provide a quantitative appr

Detained Persons Incarcerated for the First Time and Needing Acute Psychiatric Care: Sociodemographic and Clinical Characteristics.

Among detained persons, those incarcerated for the first time (FTI: first time incarceration) are known to present long-standing psychological vulnerability but also suffer significant deterioration of their mental health during the first year following imprisonment. Whether the patterns of psychiatric morbidity differ in FTI cases compared to cases with repeated and long term incarceration (RLTI) is still a matter of debate. We examined the sociodemographic and clinical differences between a subgroup of FTI vs. one of RLTI in a series of 139 randomly selected detained persons admitted to an a

Estimated prevalence of eating disorders in Malaysia based on a diagnostic screen.

UNLABELLED: Eating disorders (EDs) are debilitating health conditions and common across cultures. Recent reports suggest that about 14.0% of university students in Malaysia are at risk for developing an ED, and that prevalence may differ by ethnicity and gender. However, less is known about the prevalence of EDs in nonuniversity populations. OBJECTIVE: The current study seeks to (1) estimate the prevalence of EDs and ED risk status among adults in Malaysia using an established diagnostic screen; (2) examine gender and ethnic differences between ED diagnostic/risk status groups; and (3) charac

Effectiveness and profitability of preventive veterinary interventions in controlling infectious diseases of ruminant livestock in sub-Saharan Africa: a scoping review.

Agriculture in general, and livestock production in particular, serve as a livelihood source for many people in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). In many settings, lack of control of infectious diseases hampers livestock productivity, undermining the livelihood of rural populations. This scoping review sought to identify veterinary interventions previously evaluated as well as their relative effectiveness in controlling infectious livestock diseases. To be included, papers had to be written in English, German or French, and had to describe the effectiveness and/or profitability of preventive veterinar

Cryptosporidium species in non-human animal species in Latin America: Systematic review and meta-analysis.

Cryptosporidiosis is an infection caused by a protozoon that inhabits the gastrointestinal tract. More than forty valid species have been described in the genus Cryptosporidium, infecting a broad range of hosts around the world, some with zoonotic transmission and others with predominant anthroponotic transmission. Prevalence studies conducted in Latin American countries have been specific, without consolidating information on species prevalences. Thus, the aim of this study was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis addressing the prevalence of Cryptosporidium species in animals in
