The long-term results (five-to eight-year follow-up evaluation) of 66 patients with high proximal ruptures of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) who were treated operatively are presented in a retrospective and uncontrolled study. Technique of surgery was the reinsertion of the ACL in a multiple suture loop technique, augmented with Kennedy-LAD (ligament augmentation device) on over the top route in temporary double-end fixation. Fifty-one knees were reviewed out of 53 which had been operated on (between 1981 and 1991) for instability due to a long-standing rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (A.C.L.), associated with medial arthritis related to a varus deformity. They had undergone a reconstruction of the cruciate ligament using the patellar tendon (5 cases had received an artificial ligament) and a high tibial osteotomy. Thirty-two patients with an ACL-deficient knee and lower limb varus alignment and 16 healthy controls were analyzed during level walking using a force-plate and optoelectronic system. In the experiment on 31 dogs there was shown a significant increase of 5-fluorouracil concentrations in the pancreas and parapancreatic tissues with regional methods of its administration in the fat of the round ligament of the liver. The aim of the investigation was to examine and describe the osteoarthrotic changes that chronic, partial or complete lateral ligament compartment (LAT) insufficiency causes to the knee joint. A comparative study of the diagnostic accuracy between the Lachman test and the anterior drawer test was performed by examining 144 knees with ruptured anterior cruciate ligaments. The diagnosis of anterior cruciate ligament rupture is often difficult to establish, especially in recent injuries with acute haemarthrosis. The diagnostic accuracy of the Lachman test in recent ruptures when the patient is examined without general anaesthetic is superior to that of the anterior drawer test, while in chronic cases with third-degree instability the two tests are equally reliable.

Palliation of obstructive jaundice in patients with hilar cancer can be achieved either by surgical bypass or by intubation and drainage. A simple and effective technique is presented which gives excellent palliation without the need for tubes or stents: left intrahepatic cholangio-enteric anastomosis, using the duct of segment III (i.e. the inferolateral segment of the left liver). Secondary reconstruction of the torn anterior cruciate ligament has been accomplished by semitendinosus tenodesis in 78 athletes (average age, 20 years; range, 13 to 45 years old).
