Neuropsychological assessment in non-central nervous system cancer patients: a systematic review of cognitive screening and assessment within oncology practice.

Early cancer detection and innovative treatments have prolonged the lifespan of cancer patients, leading to long-term consequences, including cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI). In 2011, the International Cancer and Cognition Task Force (ICCTF) established guidelines for neuropsychological assessment, however many neuropsychological tests lack validity for oncological patients. This systematic review aims to identify and summarise the most commonly used neuropsychological tests for cognitive screening and assessment in non-CNS cancer patients within research contexts. A search of elect

Efficacy of MR Imaging Findings in Clinical Management of Hepatic Encephalopathy and Alzheimer's Disease.

In the aging society, distinguishing hepatic encephalopathy (HE) from Alzheimer's disease (AD) poses significant clinical challenges attributed to overlapping neuropsychiatric symptoms including memory loss, disorientation, and impaired daily functioning. Traditional diagnostic approaches relying on clinical assessment and biochemical markers often prove insufficient, necessitating advanced neuroimaging techniques for differential diagnosis. This review examines magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques for differential diagnosis of HE and AD, focusing on T1-weighted imaging findings charact

BLSAM-TIP: Improved and robust identification of tyrosinase inhibitory peptides by integrating bidirectional LSTM with self-attention mechanism.

Tyrosinase plays a central role in melanin biosynthesis, and its dysregulation has been implicated in the pathogenesis of various pigmentation disorders. The precise identification of tyrosinase inhibitory peptides (TIPs) is critical, as these bioactive molecules hold significant potential for therapeutic and cosmetic applications, including the treatment of hyperpigmentation and the development of skin-whitening agents. To date, computational methods have received significant attention as a complement to experimental methods for the in silico identification of TIPs, reducing the need for exte

SpindleX: A Multi-Scale Event Detection Window and CBAM Attention-Based Model for Sleep Spindle Detection.

Sleep spindles, characteristic waveforms in stage 2 of non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep on EEG, are linked to a multitude of diseases. Although numerous sleep spindle detection methods exist, several challenges persist: 1)How to effectively utilize spindle properties, such as their duration and prominence in EEG signals? 2)How to capture spindles without threshold settings? 3)How to make spindle detection resemble object detection without converting signals into images? To address these challenges, we introduce SpindleX, a novel end-to-end sleep spindle detection algorithm. It comprises fou

10% carbon dioxide improves cognitive function after subarachnoid hemorrhage in rats: inhibiting neuronal apoptosis through the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway.

Many patients experience long-term cognitive dysfunction after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), and effective treatments are currently lacking. Carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), an inexpensive and easily produced gas, forms carbonic acid when dissolved in water. Studies have suggested that hypercapnia may have neuroprotective effects. However, the optimal concentration of CO 2 for therapeutic inhalation is still unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effects of various CO 2 concentrations on cognitive function in SAH rats and to explore the potential molecular mechanisms involved. In this study, we

Microglia-Mediated Neuroinflammation Through Phosphatidylinositol 3-Kinase Signaling Causes Cognitive Dysfunction.

Microglia, as the immune guardians of the central nervous system (CNS), have the ability to maintain neural homeostasis, respond to environmental changes, and remodel the synaptic landscape. However, persistent microglial activation can lead to chronic neuroinflammation, which can alter neuronal signaling pathways, resulting in accelerated cognitive decline. Phosphoinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) has emerged as a critical driver, connecting inflammation to neurodegeneration, serving as the nexus of numerous intracellular processes that govern microglial activation. This review focuses on the relation

Power-to-power cross-frequency coupling as a novel approach for temporal lobe seizure detection and analysis.

OBJECTIVE: Power-to-power cross-frequency coupling (CFC) is a novel method to index the dynamic spatio-temporal interactions between brain rhythms, including high frequency oscillations (HFOs). This research evaluates this promising method's capacity for seizure detection with intracranial EEG. Seizures can be conceptualized as composites of different electrographic patterns including (1) spike, (2) ripple-on-spike, and (3) ripple-on-oscillation. This study also performs a basic CFC analysis of each of these components which has potential to further the understanding of epileptogenic processes
