Prevalence and Predictors of Energy Insecurity Among United States Households With Children.

OBJECTIVE: Energy insecurity, defined as the inability to meet household energy needs due to limited financial resources, is an understudied problem with potential adverse impacts on child health. In the United States, households with children are more likely to experience energy insecurity, but little is known about which households are most at risk. In addition, few studies have investigated the relationship between energy insecurity and other forms of household material hardship. METHODS: We analyzed nationally representative data from the United States (US) 2022-2024 Household Pulse Surve

Predictors for non-response to PROMs across three areas of inpatient rehabilitation - a nationwide cross-sectional study in Switzerland.

BACKGROUND: Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are valuable tools to integrate the patient perspective and improve quality of rehabilitation services. However, there is a risk of non-response bias. Identifying characteristics associated with non-response is important to reduce barriers to PROM completion and to ensure quality care for all patients undergoing rehabilitation. METHODOLOGY: In this cross-sectional observational study, we used routine data from the Swiss national quality assurance program for inpatient rehabilitation, in which PROMs are employed at admission and discharge f

Screen Your Way Study Protocol: Embedding community driven models to increase cervical screening via HPV self-collection to improve cervical cancer outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

In July 2022, Human Papillomavirus (HPV) self-collection became available as a choice to all participants in Australia's National Cervical Screening Program (NCSP). This policy change aims to facilitate equitable access to cervical screening; however, further evidence is needed to support its implementation and reach under-screened women and people with a cervix. This implementation study seeks to embed HPV self-collection into Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) and/or primary care organisations whose context is similar to that of an ACCHO.

Deja Tu Huella: a comprehensive review of a successful emergency department-based, HIV-targeted screening program in Spain and its impact on early diagnosis and public health.

Failure to diagnose human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and late HIV diagnosis persist across Europe and Spain, sustained by missed diagnostic opportunities in routine care. Emergency departments (EDs), often the sole point of contact for vulnerable groups, are pivotal yet underused venues for early case finding. In response, the Spanish Society of Emergency Medicine (SEMES), with scientific sponsorship of the AIDS Study Group (GESIDA), published a consensus document recommending a targeted, opt-in HIV testing strategy in EDs triggered by specific HIV indicator conditions. This first consensus

Burden of cancers in India - estimates of cancer crude incidence, YLLs, YLDs and DALYs for 2021 and 2025 based on National Cancer Registry Program.

BackgroundCancer is the major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. The cancer burden varies within the regions of India posing great challenges in its prevention and control. The national burden assessment remains as a task which relies on statistical models in many developing countries, including India, due to cancer not being a notifiable disease. This study quantifies the cancer burden in India for 2016, adjusted mortality to incidence (AMI) ratio and projections for 2021 and 2025 from the National Cancer Registry Program (NCRP) and other publicly available data sources.MethodsPrimar

Gender inequalities in health and wellbeing across the first two decades of life: an analysis of 40 low-income and middle-income countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

BACKGROUND: By adulthood, gender inequalities in health and wellbeing are apparent. Yet, the timing and nature of gender inequalities during childhood and adolescence are less clear. We describe the emergence of gender inequalities in health and wellbeing across the first two decades of life. METHODS: We focused on the 40 low-income and middle-income countries in Asia and the Pacific. A measurement framework was developed around four key domains of wellbeing across the first two decades: health, education and transition to employment, protection, and a safe environment. Specific measurement c

Harmonization of clinical practice guidelines for primary prevention and screening: actionable recommendations and resources for primary care.

BACKGROUND: Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) synthesize high-quality information to support evidence-based clinical practice. In primary care, numerous CPGs must be integrated to address the needs of patients with multiple risks and conditions. The BETTER program aims to improve prevention and screening for cancer and chronic disease in primary care by synthesizing CPGs into integrated, actionable recommendations. We describe the process used to harmonize high-quality cancer and chronic disease prevention and screening (CCDPS) CPGs to update the BETTER program. METHODS: A review of CPG dat

Dual-task versus single-task gait rehabilitation after stroke: the protocol of the cognitive-motor synergy multicenter, randomized, controlled superiority trial (SYNCOMOT).

BACKGROUND: Gait disorders and cognitive impairments are prime causes of disability and institutionalization after stroke. We hypothesized that relative to single-task gait rehabilitation (ST GR), cognitive-motor dual-task (DT) GR initiated at the subacute stage would be associated with greater improvements in ST and DT gait, balance, and cognitive performance, personal autonomy, disability, and quality of life in the short, medium and long terms after stroke. METHODS: This multicenter (n=12), two-arm, parallel-group, randomized (1:1), controlled clinical study is a superiority trial. With p<

Associations between animal health indicators, antimicrobial use, and antimicrobial resistance on Swiss dairy farms.

Farm animal health and welfare have been ongoing concerns for farmers, consumers, and society for a long time. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and its relationship with antimicrobial use (AMU) have been identified as global public health challenges. A set of established health and welfare indicators (HWI) for dairy cows and the increasing availability of detailed farm-level AMU data enabled us to carry out this study with the objectives to (i) investigate the relationship between HWI and farm-level AMU, (ii) capture the current situation of AMR in dairy cows and calves on the study farms, and (

Alcohol consumption and breast lesions: targets for risk-based screening in high-risk Italian women.

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer in Italy is still the most frequent cancer among women, and alcohol consumption is recognized as a risk factor for its development. Overall, in 2020, approximately 10% of all breast cancer-related deaths were attributable to alcohol consumption. Despite advancements in diagnostics and therapeutic options reducing mortality trends, the incidence of breast cancer is projected to rise in Italy. This study aims to assess how alcohol consumption influences the timing of breast lesion diagnosis. Understanding these associations can enhance primary prevention strategies and
