On being on the same page: Predictors of gastroenterologist-patient misalignment in inflammatory bowel disease.

OBJECTIVES: This study explored the prevalence and degree of misalignment between gastroenterologists and people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and investigated communication features related to misalignment. METHODS: A mixed-methods approach incorporated qualitative and quantitative analyses of consultations and post-consultation patient and doctor interviews. Gastroenterologists at two Australian teaching hospitals and IBD patients participated in this study. Doctor-patient misalignment about topics discussed in consultations was quantified using patient and doctor interviews. Predic

Cancer Risks in Vitiligo Patients: A Nationwide Population-Based Study in Taiwan.

Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease characterized by destruction of melanocytes and associated with other autoimmune disease. Whether the dysregulation of immune system enhances oncogenesis or not remains obscure. Until now, no nationwide population-based study has been conducted regarding this. As such, this paper aims to clarify cancer risk in vitiligo patients. A retrospective nationwide population-based cohort study between 2000 and 2010 was performed based on data from the National Health Insurance Research Database of Taiwan. Standardized incidence ratios (SIRs) of cancers were analyzed. A

Impact of arrhythmias on health-related quality of life in adults with congenital cardiac disease.

BACKGROUND: Health-related quality of life in adults with congenital cardiac disease appears to be impaired, but the determinants of this alteration remain largely unknown. The aim of our study was to examine the impact of arrhythmias on quality of life in patients late after the atrial redirection operation for transposition, or after complete correction of tetralogy of Fallot. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We enrolled 32 patients with transposition, and 35 patients with tetralogy of Fallot, in a prospective study. Quality of life was assessed using RAND-36 questionnaires. Quality of life data were

Machine learning algorithms to predict treatment success for patients with pulmonary tuberculosis.

Despite advancements in detection and treatment, tuberculosis (TB), an infectious illness caused by the Mycobacterium TB bacteria, continues to pose a serious threat to world health. The TB diagnosis phase includes a patient's medical history, physical examination, chest X-rays, and laboratory procedures, such as molecular testing and sputum culture. In artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) is an advanced study of statistical algorithms that can learn from historical data and generalize the results to unseen data. There are not many studies done on the ML algorithm that enables t

Recovery of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures vs Gait Parameters Obtained by Instrumented Insoles After Tibial and Malleolar Fractures: Prospective Longitudinal Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: New technologies from the field of mobile health (mHealth) are increasingly used to improve patient monitoring during rehabilitation. While in recent years, mobile phones, health apps, personal digital assistants, and smartwatches opened up new diagnostic and monitoring opportunities for patients, the development of innovative sensor devices, such as instrumented insoles, has now reached a sufficient level of usability with promising opportunities for clinical practice. According to research on the best method for monitoring recovery after musculoskeletal injury or surgery, the Pat

Identification of individuals with CKD from Medicare claims data: a validation study.

BACKGROUND: Medicare claims data might provide an efficient source for outcomes research in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, in the absence of laboratory data, one would need to identify patients with CKD from diagnosis codes associated with health care claims. The validity of this approach to identify patients with CKD has not been sufficiently studied. METHODS: From chart abstraction, we obtained the first serum creatinine measurement of 1,852 elderly Medicare beneficiaries upon hospitalization for myocardial infarction and estimated each patient's glomerular filtration

Self-Management Support After Burns: Protocol for a Multicenter, Stepped-Wedge Hybrid Type II Effectiveness-Implementation Study.

BACKGROUND: After a burn injury, the survivors have to manage and integrate the physical, psychological, and social consequences of their injury into their daily lives, such as functional limitations, aesthetic complaints, and fatigue. How successful survivors of burn injuries are at this depends on their self-management skills. Health care professionals play an important role in supporting the self-management of survivors of burn injuries. Currently, there are no burn-specific self-management support interventions. Therefore, we developed a self-management support intervention for survivors o

Race and Ethnicity and Clinician Linguistic Expressions of Doubt in Hospital Admission Notes.

IMPORTANCE: Stigmatizing language in electronic health records (EHRs) can generate or reinforce negative stereotypes about patients from minoritized groups and erode their trust and experience. However, less is known about the use of such language to cast doubt on patient clinical history in hospital settings. OBJECTIVE: To compare the prevalence of language expressing doubt about patient clinical history (eg, experiences and symptoms) in hospital admission notes by patient race and ethnicity. To compare the clinical characteristics and self-management status of patients with chronic wounds across different altitudes and to identify factors associated with self-management. A cross-sectional design was used. Using convenience sampling, 113 patients with chronic wounds were recruited from the Hospital of the Tibet Autonomous Region Chengdu Office and categorized by long-term residential altitude into a high-altitude group (≥ 3000 m, n = 76) and a low-altitude group (< 3000 m, n = 37). BACKGROUND: Extracts of the medicinal plant Tripterygium wilfordii Hook F (TwHF) have been used in China for centuries to treat a spectrum of inflammatory diseases. OBJECTIVE: To compare the benefits and side effects of TwHF extract with those of sulfasalazine for the treatment of active rheumatoid arthritis. DESIGN: Randomized, controlled trial. Dental school caries and periodontitis risk analysis skillset: survey of carryover to practice.

BACKGROUND: Scarce evidence is available in how clinicians process the management of high-risk individuals in real-world scenarios. The purpose of the present study is to discern the degree to which graduates apply explicit risk analysis skillsets in practice over time, and how graduates prioritize risk factors for caries and periodontitis. METHODS: The importance of risk factors for caries and periodontitis and management of low/high risk private practice patients were surveyed among dental graduates within the last ten years. Surveys were sent from August 2025 through October 2025. Data pat

Optimizing screening for type 2 diabetes in mobile medical clinics in West Bengal, India: a best practice implementation project.

INTRODUCTION: Non-communicable diseases have become a major public health concern, with shifting trends in epidemiology among the tribal populations of India. Among them, type 2 diabetes is emerging as an epidemic, with an estimated prevalence of 19% in West Bengal. Due to inequities in health care access and utilization among tribal communities, seeking treatment for type 2 diabetes differs significantly from the general population. OBJECTIVES: This project aimed to improve the quality of diabetes screening and management services in mobile medical clinics in Nagrakata, Jalpaiguri Sadar, and

INTRODUCTION: Hand expression (HE) of breast milk enables milk collection at any stage of lactation. Its use is widely recommended for breastfeeding mothers. However, evidence surrounding utilization, outcomes, and experiences using HE is limited. OBJECTIVE: This scoping review aims to broadly examine the literature describing patient and health care provider experiences, utilization, and clinical outcomes of HE of breast milk. METHODS: We conducted systematic searches in MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, Scielo, and DialNet. We included both primary research and quality improvement reports.
