Reanalysis of the immunological characteristics of scalp psoriasis: a cross-sectional study using Olink proteomics.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the molecular profile of adult patients with Scalp psoriasis (SP). METHODS: We assessed 92 inflammatory biomarkers in lesional scalp skin from SP patients (n = 20) and demographically comparable healthy controls (HCs, n = 12) using Olink high-throughput proteomics, and investigated the expression of Th2-type cytokines using ELISA in an independent cohort (contains 11 SP patients and 5 HCs). RESULTS: We identified 28 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) in lesional SP compared to HCs (FC ≥ ±1.2, adjusted p-value <0.05). We observed that SP exhibits a Th1/Th17/IL-12/I

Economic burden of Generalized Pustular Psoriasis in Malaysia: a multi-centre analysis of indirect costs.

BACKGROUND: Generalized Pustular Psoriasis (GPP) constitutes a rare yet severe variant of psoriasis, characterised by extensive pustule formation on the skin and imposes a significant economic burden. The study aimed to investigate the indirect costs associated with GPP in Malaysia, encompassing patients' work productivity losses and out-of-pocket expenses. METHODS: This primary, multicentre, cross-sectional cost analysis study was conducted among patients diagnosed with GPP attending public hospitals under the Ministry of Health (MOH) in Malaysia. The indirect costs were assessed using the W

Nail Bed Sporotrichosis in a Patient with Psoriasis Arthritis Treated with a TNF Blocker: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Sporotrichosis is a granulomatous infection caused by Sporothrix species, typically following traumatic inoculation. Brazil is an endemic area, and zoonotic transmission from cats has become the predominant route of infection. Nail bed involvement is extremely uncommon, likely due to the protective barrier of the nail plate. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 51-year-old female, who cared for domestic and stray cats, with cutaneous and arthropathic psoriasis under treatment with methotrexate and adalimumab, who developed a painful, ulcerated lesion on the nail bed and folds of the r

A polysaccharide-based hydrogel integrated with nanozyme activity for synergistic photothermal-enzymatic therapy of psoriasis.

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder driven by intertwined pathogenic factors, including microbial infection, oxidative stress, and immune dysregulation, which necessitates combinatory therapeutic strategies. Here, we engineered a carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS)-based ternary hydrogel (FP) by synergistically incorporating sodium alginate (SA) and polyacrylamide (PAAm) to host polypyrrole (PPy)-coated magnetite nanozymes (Fe₃O₄@PPy). The resulting composite hydrogel integrates exogenous photothermal conversion and peroxidase-mimicking activities with the inherent antioxidant capacity

Lifestyle interventions targeting adiposity in adults with psoriasis: a systematic review and network meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVE: Excess adiposity drives inflammation and impairs treatment response in psoriasis. We compared the effectiveness of dietary energy restriction, aerobic exercise, and combined diet-exercise interventions in adults with psoriasis and overweight or obesity. METHODS: We searched four English- and four Chinese-language databases from inception to 15 January 2026 for randomized controlled trials of low-energy diet (LED), aerobic exercise (AE), diet plus aerobic exercise (D+AE), or usual care (UC). Primary outcomes were body mass index (BMI), body weight, and waist circumference; secondary

PSO-TARGET: a New Tool to Identify the Therapeutic Expectations of Psoriasis Patients Treated with Biologics.

INTRODUCTION: The effectiveness of psoriasis treatment is assessed by standardized tools such as the Dermatology life Quality Index (DLQI) and Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI). However, discrepancies between patients and physicians in terms of treatment success and goals, along with the growing importance of shared decision-making in healthcare, highlight the need for tools specifically designed for psoriasis. Such tools can enhance communication between patients and physicians, encouraging shared decision-making and improving the assessment of patient treatment expectations. METHODS: Com

A Randomized Controlled Trial for the Optimal Implementation of Psoriasis Treatment by Integrating Chinese and Western Medicine.

BACKGROUND: Psoriasis is a refractory inflammatory disease affecting people worldwide. Currently, the prevalent guideline-recommended regimen is based on psoriasis severity; however, no corresponding studies have been conducted on the hierarchical selection of integrated Chinese and Western medicine treatments. OBJECTIVE: To explore the optimal implementation of psoriasis treatment by integrating Chinese and Western medicine. METHODS: We conducted a 16-week multicenter single-blind randomized controlled trial in China between December 2019 and July 2022. Patients with mild-to-moderate psoria

Identification of a Gene Expression Signature to Predict the Risk of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm in Psoriasis Patients.

BACKGROUND : Psoriasis is an immune-mediated, hereditary condition that presents itself in the skin or joints, or even both. Increasing evidence indicates that psoriasis is connected to an elevated risk of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), owing to their shared inflammatory pathogenesis. Nevertheless, the interplay between psoriasis and AAA lacks sufficient documentation. METHODS: Through WGCNA and DEGs, psoriasis and AAA phenotype-related genes were identified. Identifying risk genes involved in both psoriasis and AAA involved generating candidate genes by finding the common intersection of h

Merkel cell carcinoma in a psoriasis patient on long-term ixekizumab therapy: A case report.

A 69-year-old male receiving ixekizumab for plaque psoriasis presented with violaceous dermal nodules in a sporotrichoid pattern on the right distal lower leg. Biopsy and imaging led to the diagnosis of stage IIIB Merkel cell carcinoma. Treatment with avelumab, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy led to partial remission, but 4 years later, he succumbed to the disease. Ixekizumab-associated immunosuppression may have contributed to Merkel cell carcinoma development, a tumor known to occur more frequently in immunocompromised individuals.

Effectiveness and Safety of Risankizumab for Psoriasis in a Liver Transplant Patient With Recurrent Metastatic Hepatocellular Carcinoma.

Risankizumab (RZB) is a humanized monoclonal antibody that selectively targets interleukin-23 (IL-23). It has proven particularly effective in treating psoriasis, a common chronic inflammatory skin disease. However, its use remains poorly documented in certain populations, including patients with a history of solid organ transplantation or recent/active malignancy. We present a case of successful and well-tolerated treatment with RZB over an 18-month follow-up period in a patient with multiple comorbidities, including liver transplantation, recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with adrenal

Long-term Safety Monitoring and Efficacy Status of Infliximab and its Biosimilars in Psoriasis Management.

Infliximab (INF), a murine human monoclonal antibody, is a substantially more successful biologic than topical drugs for treating mild to severe psoriasis because it clears the skin rapidly due to its fast onset of action. Loss of responsiveness over time and some adverse effects, especially the experience of infusion reactions, are the major causes of non-compliance with INF medication. Therefore, evaluation of the long-term reliability of anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF) medications is necessary for the assessment of the risks associated with long-term anti-TNF therapy. For psoriasis, there

Effects of IL17/23 Inhibitors on Markers of Subclinical Atherosclerosis in Patients with Psoriasis: An Observational Study.

INTRODUCTION: To date, several reports demonstrated improved markers of subclinical atherosclerosis in patients with psoriasis treated with biologics. However, data on the antiatherogenic effect of IL23 inhibitors are sparse. Herein, we sought to assess the impact of 1-year treatment with an interleukin (IL)-17 or IL-23 inhibitor on arterial stiffness in patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis. METHODS: This observational cohort study included patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis treated with either an IL-17 inhibitor or an IL-23 inhibitor or a conventional systemic agent/apremilast
