Clinical Safety Profile of TrichoConcept™, a Line of Cosmetic Vehicles for Personalized Treatment of Alopecia.

Alopecia is a chronic dermatological disorder that affects patients worldwide, with a significant impact on quality of life, self-esteem, and psychological wellbeing. However, commercially available options for alopecia treatment are still limited. Considering that topical formulations have a long-term use therapeutic profile, the safety of their ingredients should be closely evaluated to avoid potentially irritant substances. Alternative active ingredients with different mechanisms of action, as well as adequate vehicles, might increase patients' adherence leading to better clinical outcomes.

The revised transliminality scale: reliability and validity data from a Rasch top-down purification procedure.

The concept of transliminality ("a hypothesized tendency for psychological material to cross thresholds into or out of consciousness") was anticipated by William James (1902/1982), but it was only recently given an empirical definition by Thalbourne in terms of a 29-item Transliminality Scale. This article presents the 17-item Revised Transliminality Scale (or RTS) that corrects age and gender biases, is unidimensional by a Rasch criterion, and has a reliability of.82. The scale defines a probabilistic hierarchy of items that address magical ideation, mystical experience, absorption, hyperaest

Prenatal diagnosis of Machado-Joseph disease by direct mutation analysis.

MJD is the most frequent dominant ataxia and an incapacitating disorder. Onset is most frequently during the reproductive years, and genetic counseling is its only means of prevention. The causative mutation--an expansion of a (CAG)n on chromosome 14q32.1--can now be directly detected. We now report the first two cases of prenatal diagnosis (PND). The first presented as a simultaneous request for predictive testing and PND at 14 weeks of pregnancy. Owing to time constraints, we performed a full protocol of counseling with shorter inter between sessions, while psycho-social evaluation of the ot

AIDS and dementia: a quantitative neuropsychological study of unselected Danish patients.

Retrospective studies of hospitalized patients with the acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) have indicated that dementia occur in the majority of cases. In order to study the occurrence of dementia among AIDS patients, we conducted a controlled study of 16 unselected cases with a battery of neuropsychological tests known to be sensitive to brain damage of various etiologies. Except for fatigue, mental complaints and neuropsychiatric signs of dementia were generally sparse. As a group, the AIDS patients' performance in the neuropsychological tests did not differ from that of matched, hea

Subsequent physical and mental development in infants with positive contraction stress tests.

Little knowledge exists concerning long-term sequelae in children born of pregnancies complicated by chronic uteroplacental insufficiency. This follow-up study evaluates 12 children with positive contraction stress tests (CSTs) 5.5 months to 4.75 years following birth. Subsequent physical growth was uniformly normal in the four infants classified as appropriate for gestational age at birth; however, continued postnatal growth deficiency was present in 50% of the eight infants who suffered from intrauterine growth retardation. No major neurologic abnormalities were detected, and 10 of the 12 di

Reliability of quantitative strength measurements in children.

In normal children, sex, age, height and weight account for approximately 50% to 70% of variance in the strength scores obtained by quantitative measurements. Although quantitative techniques accurately measure the forces generated by muscle contraction, technical and psychological variables may cause some inconsistency of scores and contribute to the variance observed. To explore the role of these factors, reliability of quantitative strength measurements was examined in children withe normal intelligence and with mild mental retardation using the isokinetic method. Results showed mean score

Sensory impairment, loneliness, and the emergence of physical-psychological-cognitive multimorbidity: a cross-national cohort study in China, the United States, and England.

BACKGROUND: The co-occurrence of physical diseases, psychological disorders, and cognitive impairment-here termed physical-psychological-cognitive multimorbidity (PPC-M)-poses growing challenges to healthy aging but its upstream, modifiable determinants remain underexplored. Sensory impairments are common in later life and may be associated with the emergence of PPC-M, partly through psychosocial factors such as loneliness. This study aimed to examine the associations of vision, hearing, and dual sensory impairments with incident PPC-M and to assess whether loneliness partly explains these ass

Ten years of a gender identity service for children and adolescents in Germany: demographic and clinical patterns.

Key discussions in current research on transgender and gender diverse children and adolescents include rising referral rates of adolescents assigned female at birth (AFAB) compared to adolescents assigned male at birth (AMAB) to specialized gender identity services and shifts in demographic and clinical characteristics of clients. The present study aimed to investigate two things: (1) a potential linear increase in the proportion of AFAB (vs. AMAB) referrals over time; and (2) to identify distinct clinical patterns based on time, sex assigned at birth, and clinical characteristics, such as psy

Low Cognitive Function and Somatic Psychological Symptoms Are Correlated with Greater Risk of Delirium After Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Prospective Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: Postoperative delirium (POD) is a clinically important complication in elderly patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) that is associated with prolonged hospitalization, increased morbidity, and higher health-care costs. Although cognitive impairment is a known risk factor for POD, the role of comprehensive cognitive and psychological evaluation remains underexplored in patients undergoing TKA. This study aimed to evaluate the correlation of preoperative cognitive and psychological factors with POD after TKA. METHODS: This prospective cohort study included 574 patients w

Long-term effects and predictors of change of internet-delivered cognitive behavioural therapy on cardiac anxiety in patients with non-cardiac chest pain: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Approximately half of patients who seek care at Emergency Departments due to chest pain are diagnosed with Non-Cardiac Chest Pain (NCCP). Concerns for heart disease and misinterpretation of the symptoms increase cardiac anxiety and have a negative impact on patients' lives. Psychological interventions such as internet-delivered cognitive behavioral therapy (iCBT) are effective in treating psychological conditions such as anxiety, by helping patients to learn how to manage chest pain. AIMS: To evaluate the effects of a nurse-led iCBT program on cardiac anxiety and secondary outcome

Neuropsychological functioning related to specific characteristics of nocturnal enuresis.

INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND: There is a high comorbidity demonstrated in the literature between nocturnal enuresis and several neuropsychological dysfunctions, with special emphasis on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). However, the majority of the psychological studies did not include full non-invasive screening and failed to differentiate between monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (MNE) and non-MNE patients. OBJECTIVE: The present study primarily aimed to investigate the association between nocturnal enuresis and (neuro)psychological functioning in a selective homogeneous patient

Compassion-Fatigue Latent Profile Analysis A Cross-Sectional Study of Psychiatric Nurses' Typologies and Their Predictors.

INTRODUCTION: Workplace stress is prevalent in psychiatric nursing, with compassion fatigue significantly challenging nurses' well-being and care quality. Effective prevention requires identifying at-risk nurses using validated assessment frameworks. The contemporary approach to workforce mental health emphasises proactive, targeted interventions tailored to individual risk profiles. Nurses play a central role in sustaining therapeutic environments, and their psychological resources are critical to this process. However, the heterogeneity of compassion fatigue among psychiatric nurses remains
