Past research has shown that women with eating disorders commonly display clinical elevations on several scales of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI; Hathaway & McKinley, 1983), so the MMPI may be useful for the differentiation of women with Anorexia Nervosa from those with Bulimia Nervosa. College students (27 men, 47 women) rated Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory items for sex-typedness. Men and women did not differ in their perceptions of the sex-typing of the test, either for individual items or for 11 personality disorder scales; however, subjects perceived items in general as slightly more likely to be endorsed by women than men. In addition, 10 of the 11 scales were perceived as significantly more likely to be endorsed by one sex or the other. Tests against types and anti-types as performed in Victor's Configural Frequency Analysis (CFA) have shown to be non-conservative. The conservative test by Kieser is introduced. It is applied to data describing a sample that performs below average in language tests. For data including small expected cell frequencies the Harms-Ihm adjustment is recommended. It leads to valid chi-squared testing even if expectancies are small. The problem of identifying more than two types or syndromes in exploratory CFA is discussed.

We tested a dependency rating scale issued from MMPI (considered relevant for DSM-III dependent personality disorder) on 33 males who met this DSM-III personality disorder. There is no significant difference between our subjects and the standard values reported in the literature. Some hypothesis about this negative results are discussed.

This study examined the diagnostic efficiency of the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory-II (MCMI-II) Major Depression (CC) and Dysthymia (D) scales for the differential prediction of unipolar depressive disorders. The MCMI-II was administered to 109 inpatients at a large private psychiatric hospital in the Midwest. All patients had a primary Axis I diagnosis of a depressive disorder, given at discharge by the attending psychiatrists. The severity of the depressive and apathy syndrome, which are factoranalytically derived from the AMDP-system is reported for 428 patients with a monopolar depression. The data are compared with the results from 79 patients with a bipolar depression, 192 with a neurotic depression and 89 with a depressive reaction. The percentile scores can be used for the evaluation of the severity of a depressive and apathy syndrome in comparison to a reference sample.

Handedness inventory data are peculiarly prone to be used to classify subjects in a post hoc fashion. Data from a computer simulation are used to show that if this procedure is adopted, significance levels can be seriously misleading: under certain conditions the odds of obtaining "significant" results by chance are as high as 2:3. Specification of cutoffs after inspection of the data is probably the most important source of spurious associations between handedness and disorder.

The purpose of this study was to determine the reliability and validity of the Loewenstein Occupational Therapy Cognitive Assessment (LOTCA) battery. The battery provides an initial profile of the cognitive abilities of the brain-injured patient that can be used as a starting point for occupational therapy intervention and as a screening test for further assessment. The LOTCA consists of 20 subtests and is divided into four areas: orientation, visual and spatial perception, visuomotor organization, and thinking operations.
