Association between systemic immune-inflammation index and sleep disorder among US adults: A cross-sectional study based on NHANES 2005 to 2020.

The relationship between the Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index (SII) and sleep disorders remains poorly characterized. This cross-sectional study investigated this association utilizing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey spanning 2005 to 2020. A total of 42,150 participants were included, of whom 25.34% reported sleep disorders. The association between SII and sleep disorders was evaluated using multivariable logistic regression models and restricted cubic spline analysis. In unadjusted models, a significant positive association was observed; compared with the lowe

Comorbidities in prurigo nodularis.

Prurigo nodularis (PN) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition characterized by intense pruritus and hyperkeratotic nodules commonly found on the trunk and extremities. The pathogenesis of PN involves neuroimmune dysregulation, mediated by various inflammatory cytokines and neuropeptides. PN significantly impacts patients' quality of life. There is greater disease severity, increased itch intensity, and a more pronounced reduction in quality of life in PN compared with other individuals with chronic pruritus. PN is associated with a range of systemic comorbidities, including chronic kidney di

Associations between the multitrajectory neuroplasticity of neuronavigated rTMS-mediated angular gyrus networks and brain gene expression in AD spectrum patients with sleep disorders.

INTRODUCTION: The multifactorial influence of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) on neuroplasticity in neural networks is associated with improvements in cognitive dysfunction and sleep disorders. The mechanisms of rTMS and the transcriptional-neuronal correlation in Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients with sleep disorders have not been fully elucidated. METHODS: Forty-six elderly participants with cognitive impairment (23 patients with low sleep quality and 23 patients with high sleep quality) underwent 4-week periods of neuronavigated rTMS of the angular gyrus and neuroimagin

Food insecurity and mobility difficulty in middle-aged and older adults: The importance of bio-psychosocial factors.

OBJECTIVE: Food insecurity has been associated with mobility difficulty (MD) in old age. However, there is a scarcity of research on this topic from low- and middle-income countries, while the bio-psychological factors underlying this association are largely unknown. We investigated the food insecurity-MD link in Ghana and explored how sleep, anxiety, loneliness, and physical activity (PA) mediate the association. METHODS: Community-based, representative cross-sectional data from the Aging, Health, Well-being, and Health-seeking Behavior Study were analyzed (N = 1201; Mage = 66.5; women = 63%

Clinical, serological and genetic predictors of response to immunotherapy in anti-IgLON5 disease.

Anti-IgLON5 disease is a newly defined clinical entity characterized by a progressive course with high disability and mortality rate. While precise pathogenetic mechanisms remain unclear, features characteristic of both autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases were reported. Data on immunotherapy are limited, and its efficacy remains controversial. In this study, we retrospectively investigated an anti-IgLON5 disease cohort with special focus on clinical, serological and genetic predictors of the immunotherapy response and long-term outcome. Patients were recruited from the GENERATE (German N

Too tired to think: Relationship between post-COVID-19 fatigue and cognition in a veteran sample.

COVID-19 survivors often endorse persistent physical and neuropsychiatric problems following disease recovery, a phenomenon described as "long COVID." Research exploring long-COVID continues to evolve in large-scale studies but remains limited among smaller populations (e.g., veterans). We explored the relationship between persistent post-COVID-19 fatigue and cognition among a sample of 246 veterans who voluntarily enrolled in a COVID-19 Convalescence Programme and completed a mental health evaluation of post-illness mood (depression, anxiety, PTSD), cognition (subjective complaints, Modified

Early postoperative psychological distress as a mediator of subsequent persistent postsurgical pain outcomes among younger breast cancer patients.

PURPOSE: Younger age is a risk factor for worse pain outcomes following breast cancer surgery, yet little is known about how younger women's psychological state may contribute to their pain experience. Using prospectively collected longitudinal data from a surgical cohort, we examined whether early postoperative psychological distress at 2 weeks mediated the association between younger age and subsequent worse pain-related functioning 3 months after surgery. METHODS: Patients (N = 159) were recruited before breast cancer surgery into this longitudinal cohort study. Age at time of surgery, psy
