The Impact of Allergic Rhinitis on Australian Adults in an Urban Setting: A Qualitative Exploration.

Background/Objectives: Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a prevalent and chronic condition that is frequently underestimated in clinical practice, despite its substantial impact on quality of life (QoL). While epidemiological studies have quantified the prevalence, risk factors and symptom burden, limited research has explored the lived experiences of adults living with AR in Australia, and more specifically in Victoria. This study aimed to explore the lived experiences of adults with AR in urban Victoria, Australia. Methods: A qualitative study utilising online semi-structured in-depth interviews was

Effectiveness of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors in inpatients with selective mutism compared to social anxiety disorder: an observational study.

Selective Mutism (SM) is a rare childhood anxiety disorder characterized by a persistent inability to speak in specific social settings despite adequate speaking ability in others, sharing etiological and clinical overlap with Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD). While evidence for pharmacological treatment in SM is limited, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) have demonstrated potential efficacy, but studies on effectiveness in routine clinical practice are lacking. This single-center, retrospective observational study analysed data from 2011 to 2021 on children aged 4-14 years with SM

Prevalence of HSV-1 and HSV-2 among young gay and bisexual men and their association with HIV and other risk factors: findings from the P18 Cohort Study.

Herpes Simplex Virus types 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2) are prevalent STIs among men who have sex with men (MSM), yet remain underexamined in the U.S.. Data from the P18 cohort sub-study, P18 Viral (N = 520), were used to examine factors associated with HSV-1 and HSV-2 infection among a sample of young adult cisgender gay men. We aimed to assess (1) the seroprevalence rates of HSV-1 and HSV-2, and (2) sociodemographic, behavioral, and health-related correlates of infection. HSV-1 seroprevalence was three times higher than HSV-2. HSV-2 seropositivity was significantly associated with HIV-positive

Psychosocial Factors Associated With Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Symptom Clusters in a Sample of Women Survivors of Intimate Partner Violence.

The DSM-5 classifies posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptomatology into four distinct clusters and numerous studies have examined the psychosocial risk factors predicting these clusters across various types of trauma. However, no research has specifically explored the unique predictors of PTSD clusters in women survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV) This retrospective study analysed the DSM-5-proposed psychosocial predictors of PTSD symptom clusters (severity of violence, previous trauma, social support, emotional regulation, coping strategies and blame) in 333 women who had filed

Who's On Your Team? Classifying Dementia Caregiving Networks and Associations With the Well-being of Caregivers and Care Recipients With Dementia.

OBJECTIVES: While caregivers are typically enmeshed in broad networks of family and friends assisting with care, this network has been neglected in favor of examining a "primary" caregiver. This study examines types of family and unpaid friend networks for individuals with dementia and how one's network type relates to the well-being of care recipients with dementia and their caregivers. METHODS: Data are drawn from the nationally representative 2017 National Health and Aging Trends Study and associated National Study of Caregiving. The sample includes 336 dementia care networks (network size

Chirality-Assisted Self-Assembly of Low-Symmetry Noncovalent Capsules with Quantitative Diastereoisomeric Selection.

One of the main aspects in which artificial capsules and cages still differ from their biological counterparts is symmetry─a fundamental trait that gives natural systems exceptional selectivity in molecular recognition. While the symmetry challenge has been recently addressed within metallosupramolecular or covalent systems, the creation of purely noncovalent capsular assemblies with tunable symmetry remains elusive. One exciting avenue toward reducing symmetry is to avail chirality in chiral-sensitive self-assembly, where symmetry is altered upon component binding. Herein, we report new pathw

The relationship between the salience network and facial emotion recognition in social anxiety disorder.

Social anxiety disorder (SAD) is thought to involve the negative evaluation of facial emotions. Although imaging studies have examined this aspect, no study has investigated the relationship between resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) and facial emotion recognition in SAD. Hyperconnectivity in the salience network, particularly involving the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), has been reported to be associated with facial recognition and SAD. This study aimed to identify the association between rsFC and facial emotion recognition in patients with SAD. We included 21 patients with SAD an

Beyond DALY: public funding of health innovation in Brazil as a political strategy for equity in the Global South.

BACKGROUND: Disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) are widely used to prioritize public funding for science, technology and innovation (ST&I) in health. In universal systems such as Brazil's Unified Health System (SUS), however, allocation decisions may also incorporate broader political and social considerations. OBJECTIVE: To assess whether Brazilian public ST&I funding for neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and Zika (2006-2019) aligned with disease burden measured by DALYs, and to examine how observed funding patterns reflect political commitments to health equity and innovation in the Glo

Association between social jetlag and anxiety symptoms: Findings from a nationally representative sample of the Korean working population.

OBJECTIVES: Social jetlag (SJL), which arises from the misalignment of biological and social rhythms, is associated with adverse health outcomes. We explored the association between SJL and anxiety symptoms in Korean workers. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included a nationally representative sample, consisting of 2731 adult workers. SJL was calculated as the absolute difference in the midpoint between sleep onset and offset times on workdays and free days. The Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 scale was used to assess anxiety symptoms. Logistic regressions were used to estimate the odds ra

How Resilient are Lucid Motivators? Endeavoring Reforms for Effects of Psycho-social Factors on Workers Health Through Concurrent Engineering.

BACKGROUND: As the tremendous impact of extreme workloads, arduous working conditions, and disorganization disrupt humane job definitions in some industries, the need for workplace re-articulation was interfered to ameliorate psycho-social factors and suggest organizational intervention strategies. Especially for colossally wounded health-care (HC) systems, today it is now even more unrealizable to retain workforce resilience considering the immense impact of overwhelming working conditions. METHODS: This study introduces employment of concurrent engineering tools to re-design humane workplac
