Network Strategies in Municipal Health Promotion: A Mixed-Methods Study.

Municipal health promotion increasingly relies on intersectoral networks to address complex health challenges amid fragmented health, social and educational systems. However, little is known about how practitioners navigate these networks or how perceived strategies correspond with observed network structures. This convergent mixed-methods study involved 14 health professionals and combined qualitative interviews with egocentric network analysis. Interview data were analysed using deductive content analysis, while the quantitative component comprised descriptive network analysis based on struc

Multimodal neuroimaging fusion with hierarchical structure-function coupling for autism spectrum disorder diagnosis.

Multimodal neuroimaging fusion has gained considerable attention in diagnosing autism spectrum disorder (ASD) due to its ability to integrate complementary information across different modalities. However, most existing approaches rely on simple feature concatenation or late fusion strategies without achieving effective cross-modal coupling, failing to capture the intrinsic relationships between functional and structural information. To address these limitations, this study develops the deep multimodal dual-level coupling (DMDC) framework integrating brain functional and structural information

Development and psychometric evaluation of a lymphoedema self-management behaviour questionnaire for breast cancer patients.

OBJECTIVES: The study was aimed to develop and evaluate a lymphoedema self-management behaviour questionnaire (LSMBQ) for breast cancer patients. METHODS: The initial version of the behaviour questionnaire was developed based on the framework of self-management and the evidence summary of lymphoedema self-management. Two rounds of expert consultation were conducted to validate the questionnaire's content validity. A cross-sectional survey was then conducted in breast wards of two hospitals in China to evaluate the reliability and validity of this scale. Exploratory structural equation model w

A latent profile analysis of child maltreatment among at-risk youth gang members: Associations with violent delinquency, non-violent delinquency, and gang organizational structures.

BACKGROUND: The relationship between child maltreatment and later delinquency is an enduring concern worldwide. However, the maltreatment-delinquency relationship is relatively underexplored in youth gang populations. Consequently, to date, studies have not examined typologies of maltreatment and their associations with violent delinquency, non-violent delinquency, and gang organizational structures. OBJECTIVE: First, to identify the characteristics of subgroups of youth gang members who varied in abuse type and severity within type. Second, to determine in what ways the profiles differed in

Executive functions as a mediator of childhood maltreatment on adult psychopathology: A longitudinal mediation analysis comparing maltreatment factor models.

BACKGROUND: Childhood maltreatment (CM), executive functions (EFs), and psychiatric disorders all correlate highly. Changes in EFs during adolescence related to CM present a possible mediating mechanism for the development of psychiatric disorders, yet no study has analyzed this longitudinally while comparing predictive capacity of different CM factor structures. We hypothesized that changes in EFs from adolescence to adulthood would mediate, in part, associations between CM, internalizing disorders (INT), and anti-social personality disorder (ASPD) while different subtypes of CM would differe

Chemoarchitecture of the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis: Neurophenotypic diversity and function.

The bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BNST) is a compact but neurophenotypically complex structure in the ventral forebrain that is structurally and functionally linked to other limbic structures, including the amygdala nuclear complex, hypothalamic nuclei, hippocampus, and related midbrain structures, to participate in a wide range of functions, especially emotion, emotional learning, stress-related responses, and sexual behaviors. From a variety of sensory inputs, the BNST acts as a node for signal integration and coordination for information relay to downstream central neuroendocrine and

Genetic and Environmental Influences on Lobar Brain Structures in Twins With Autism.

This investigation examined whether the variation of cerebral structure is associated with genetic or environmental factors in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) compared with typically developing (TD) controls. T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging scans were obtained from twin pairs (aged 6-15 years) in which at least one twin was diagnosed with ASD or both were TD. Good quality data were available from 30 ASD, 18 discordant, and 34 TD pairs (n = 164). Structural measures (volume, cortical thickness, and surface area) were generated with FreeSurfer, and ACE modeling was completed.

Assessing demographic and clinical characteristics and healthcare resource utilization of patients with schizophrenia with inadequate response to antipsychotic treatment.

BACKGROUND: Schizophrenia is a severe mental illness with substantial health, social, and economic impacts. Despite the use of antipsychotics as the standard treatment, many patients fail to achieve an adequate response. This study examined differences in demographics, social determinants of health, treatment patterns, and healthcare resource utilization across antipsychotic response groups. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study used electronic health record (EHR) data from the University of Utah Health System (2017–2021). Patients aged 13 years or older with schizophrenia ICD codes and at

'I think writing is everything': An exploration of the writing experiences of people with aphasia.

BACKGROUND: Written communication has become an increasingly important part of everyday life in social, educational and professional spheres. The substantial increase in writing via the internet and mobile technologies provides both an opportunity for social engagement and distinct challenges for people with aphasia. Within the current literature there has been limited research into the lived experiences of people with aphasia of their writing difficulties and how these affect their ability to communicate. AIMS: This qualitative study aimed to explore the experiences of people with aphasia of

A cross-national comparison of the linkages between family structure histories and early adolescent substance use.

Family structure can influence adolescent health with cascading implications into adulthood. Life course theory emphasizes how this phenomenon is dynamic across time, contextualized in policy systems, and grounded in processes of selection and socialization. This study used data from the U.S. (National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1979 Child and Young Adults, n = 6,236) and U.K. (Millennium Cohort Study, n = 11,095) to examine associations between a single mother family structure between ages 0-14 and early adolescent substance use at age 14 across time and place, using inverse probability of

Predictors of diagnostic delay: Assessment of psychiatric disorders in the clinic.

BACKGROUND: Diagnostic delay contributes to morbidity in psychiatric disorders. METHODS: Patients in an ambulatory psychiatry clinic were given patient-reported outcome measures at an initial visit, and a subset (N = 493) were given a structured interview (MINI International Neuropsychiatric Interview, MINI), in addition to the clinical encounter (CLIN). Diagnostic agreement between MINI and CLIN was assessed at an initial and follow-up visit. Diagnostic delay was identified if diagnostic disagreement between MINI and CLIN occurred at the initial visit and changed to an agreement at a follow-

Large-scale brain network abnormalities in Huntington's disease revealed by structural covariance.

Huntington's disease (HD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that can be diagnosed with certainty decades before symptom onset. Studies using structural MRI have identified grey matter (GM) loss predominantly in the striatum, but also involving various cortical areas. So far, voxel-based morphometric studies have examined each brain region in isolation and are thus unable to assess the changes in the interrelation of brain regions. Here, we examined the structural covariance in GM volumes in pre-specified motor, working memory, cognitive flexibility, and social-affective networks in 9

Applying the UTAUT Model to Analyze Healthcare Professionals' Behavioural Intention to Use Hospital Information Systems: A Cross-Sectional Study in a Multi-Specialty Hospital.

Background/Objectives: Although Hospital Information Systems (HIS) are essential to the provision of contemporary healthcare, clinical professionals' use of HIS is still uneven. Robust healthcare decision-making is based on the systematic collection, storage, and analysis of health data, and it is crucial to comprehend the elements that promote or impede adoption. In a tertiary-care multi-specialty hospital in Chennai, India, this study sought to evaluate the role of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) constructs-Performance Expectancy, Effort Expectancy, Social Infl

Post-Acute Care Pathways After Sexual Violence and Intimate Partner Violence: An International Health-Services Scoping Review with Implications for Italy.

Background/Objectives: Survivors of sexual violence and domestic violence/intimate partner violence (IPV) often require support beyond the immediate emergency encounter; however, post-acute care remains inconsistently defined, unevenly organised or conceptualised, and fragmented across service systems. This scoping review mapped international post-acute follow-up, care, assistance, and support pathways, with particular attention to organisational models, continuity mechanisms, loss to follow-up after first access, and implications for the Italian context. Methods: We conducted an international

The Double Dominion Over Women's Bodies as a barrier to exercising sexual and reproductive rights: a mixed-methods study in La Ladrillera, Mexico.

BACKGROUND: Sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) are essential to women's autonomy and well-being. Despite global recognition of SRHR as a cornerstone of public health and human rights, research and policy have often failed to account for the lived realities that impede access to SRHR for women on the urban periphery or in rural settings. This study aims to explore how deleteriously interacting social and structural factors shape access to SRHR. METHODS: A convergent mixed-methods study was conducted in La Ladrillera, a brickmaking community in Baja California, Mexico. Quantitativ

Primary Care Providers Describe Barriers and Facilitators to Amputation Prevention in Oklahoma.

Background: Although most amputations caused by diabetes and peripheral artery disease (PAD) are preventable, current limb preservation efforts in the United States remain poorly understood. This study aims to identify key barriers and facilitators to limb preservation from the primary care provider (PCP) perspective. We plan to use the insights from this work to promote targeted intervention strategies. Methods: Using a mixed-methods design, an online 5-10 min survey was distributed to Oklahoma primary care providers who could elect to participate further in a semi-structured, audio-recorded

Exploring the drivers of suicide among individuals served by a medical university in Southeastern Iran: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Suicide remains a leading cause of death worldwide and a critical global public health concern. Although the majority of suicides occur in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), prevention in these contexts is often hampered by limited mental health infrastructure, entrenched stigma, and systemic barriers. In Iran, although the national suicide mortality rate remains comparatively low, a growing trend in suicide attempts—especially among youth—has raised concern. However, little is known about the sociocultural and structural drivers of suicidal behavior in underserved regions s

Uptake and detection rate of colorectal cancer screening with colonoscopy in China: A population-based, prospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Colorectal cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Colonoscopy is widely used as a screening test for detecting colorectal cancer in many countries. However, there is little evidence regarding the uptake and diagnostic yields of colonoscopy in population-based screening programs in countries with limited medical resources. OBJECTIVE: We reported the uptake of colonoscopy and the detection of colorectal lesions and explored related factors based on a colorectal cancer screening program in China. DESIGN: Individuals aged 45-74 years who were asymptomatic for

The dynamic changes of postoperative symptoms in lower limb Ilizarov bone transport patients: a longitudinal cross-lagged panel network analysis.

BACKGROUND: Patients undergoing lower limb Ilizarov bone transport often experience a multidimensional symptom burden postoperatively, including physical, psychological, and social domains, which interact with each other. These symptoms collectively hinder postoperative recovery, yet their dynamic interactions over time remain unclear. OBJECTIVE: To construct a longitudinal symptom network for postoperative lower limb bone transport patients, identify core symptoms that persistently drive changes in other symptoms throughout rehabilitation, and reveal the dynamic evolution of symptom network
