[Classification and Molecular Diagnosis of Benign Brain Tumors].

Classification and molecular diagnosis of benign brain tumors, focusing on cranial and pasaspinal nerve tumors, meningioma, mesenchymal, and non-meningothelial tumors involving the central nervous system(CNS)has been reviewed based on the 5th edition of the World Health Organization Classification of Tumors of the Central Nervous System. In sporadic schwannomas, the novel fusion gene SH3PXD2A-HTRA1, which activates the MAPK pathway, has been discovered. Meningioma shows frequent chromosomal alterations, including at the NF2 locus. Recent genomic studies have investigated mutations in TRAF7, KL

Cytogenetics in the management of myeloproliferative neoplasms, mastocytosis and myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasms: Guidelines from the Group Francophone de Cytogénétique Hématologique (GFCH).

Myeloproliferative neoplasms, mastocytosis, myeloid/lymphoid neoplasms with hypereosinophilia and tyrosine kinase gene fusions, and myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasms are clonal hematopoietic cancers that, with the exception of certain entities, have an indolent course. In addition to their increasingly important role in the diagnosis of these entities, as shown by the recent classification of hematolymphoid tumors in the 5th edition of the World Health Organization and the International Consensus Classification of myeloid neoplasms and acute leukemias, identification of the profile

Spatial transcriptomics of a giant pilomatricoma.

Pilomatricomas (PMs) are common benign adnexal tumors that show a predilection for the head and neck region and are characterized at the molecular level by activating mutations in the beta-catenin (CTNNB1) gene. Giant PMs are a rare histopathological variant, according to the World Health Organization, which are defined by a size greater than 4 cm and are reported to show upregulation of yes-associated protein compared to PMs of typical 1-3 cm size. We describe the case of a 67-year-old man with an 8 cm giant PM involving his temporal scalp, whose PM we characterized by 10X spatial gene expres

Pulmonary Cystic Echinococcosis in Contrast-enhanced Ultrasound - A Case Report.

AIM OF THE STUDY: Pulmonary cystic echinococcosis is a parasitic infection transmitted by dogs and occurring in livestock-raising areas. It is included among the neglected tropical diseases, according to the World Health Organization. Imaging plays a pivotal role in the diagnosis of this disease. While cross-sectional imaging modalities such as computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging are preferred, lung ultrasound may be another feasible technique. CASE DESCRIPTION: We report a case of pulmonary cystic echinococcosis in a 26-year-old woman who was examined by contrast-enhanced ultr

[Ophthalmic manifestations of COVID-19].

In March 2020 the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a pandemic of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) caused by the SARS-CoV-2 respiratory virus. The high spread rate of the virus and the severity of the course of the disease are of great clinical and epidemiological significance, making it relevant for ophthalmologists to study the mechanisms of how SARS-CoV-2 infects ocular structures, as well as possible clinical manifestations of the infection in the organ of vision. This review contains analysis, systematization, and generalization of epidemiological and clinical data on SAR

Investigating the effect of ribavirin treatment on genetic mutations in Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) through next-generation sequencing.

Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is the most widespread tick-borne viral haemorrhagic fever affecting humans, and yet a licensed drug against the virus (CCHFV) is still not available. While several studies have suggested the efficacy of ribavirin against CCHFV, current literature remains inconclusive. In this study, we have utilised next-generation sequencing to investigate the mutagenic effect of ribavirin on the CCHFV genome during clinical disease. Samples collected from CCHF patients receiving ribavirin treatment or supportive care only at Sivas Cumhuriyet University Hospital, Turke

Durability of neutralizing antibodies against yellow fever virus after vaccination in healthy adults.

In accordance with the World Health Organization, one dose of yellow fever vaccine may guarantee protection lifelong in healthy adults. However, relatively little information is still available from ad hoc studies. We evaluated the persistence of neutralizing antibodies, which are considered to be an immune correlate of protection, in a large number of military personnel vaccinated up to 47 years before. Overall, 322 individuals were studied. The median time from vaccination to blood collection for neutralizing antibody evaluation was 9 years, ranging from <1 to 47 years. Of the 322 participan

Systemic ALK-negative anaplastic large cell lymphoma with distinctive myxoid change and DUSP22 rearrangement.

Systemic anaplastic lymphoma kinase-negative (ALK-) anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) comprises a genomically heterogeneous disease that is considered a distinct entity by the 2016 World Health Organization Classification of Tumours of Haematopoietic and Lymphoid Tissues. Other than lymph nodes, systemic ALK- ALCL may affect extranodal tissues, sites where the inflammatory background may be especially prominent. In this scenario, myxoid change is exceptional in systemic ALK- ALCL. We describe a rare case of systemic ALK- ALCL with distinctive myxoid changes, carrying specific chromosomal a

Prognosis of duodenal gangliocytic paraganglioma with lymph node metastasis: is follow-up >5 years required?

Gangliocytic paragangliomas (GP) are rare tumors encountered exclusively in the second portion of the duodenum. Duodenal gangliocytic paraganglioma (DGP) belongs to a subclass of neuroendocrine neoplasms, characterized with unique histologic features of carcinoid tumor, paraganglioma and ganglioneuromas. According to the recent World Health Organization classification of gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), there is a debate to classify them either as low-grade NETs or as an independent entity. There are a few reports of regional lymph node (LN) metastasis that could argue DGP as a t

COULD COVID-19 TRIGGER TYPE 1 DIABETES? PRESENTATION OF COVID-19 CASE PRESENTED WITH DIABETIC KETOACIDOSIS.

COVID-19 is a viral disease that is recognized now as a pandemic by the World Health Organization. It is known that some viral infections may trigger autoimmune diseases. It has been revealed that COVID-19 may also lead to the pathogenesis of some autoimmune diseases, including Type 1 DM (T1DM) and autoimmune thyroid diseases. Here, we aimed to present a young female patient with COVID-19, who we followed up in our clinic, who presented with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), and developed Hashimoto's disease during the treatment process. In order to emphasize that COVID-19 may trigger the emergence

Molecularly Imprinted Polymer Hydrogel Nanoparticles: Synthetic Antibodies for Cancer Diagnosis and Therapy.

Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide and according to the World Health Organization (WHO) accounted for 10 million deaths in 2020. Promising theranostic (therapy and diagnostic) agents in the treatment of cancer are nanomaterials, which have come to the forefront because of their small size approaching those of protein complexes in the human body, and of their easy functionalization giving access to nanocomposite materials with diverse functions (fluorescence, magnetic, stimuli-responsiveness, etc.), and improved biocompatibility. Among them, affinity nanoparticles, often decorated wit

Daylight is critical to preserve 5-methoxytryptophol levels in suspected and confirmed COVID-19 patients.

Declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organization, COVID-19 causes damage to tissues with the cytokine storm. It even causes death in people who are fond of it. In this case, the role of the immune system is vital. In particular, the cycle of melatonin and 5-methoxytryptophol released from the pineal hormone ensures that immunity continues for 24 h. While 5-MTX is active in sunlight, melatonin secretion increases in the dark at night. 5-MTX, like melatonin, has shown antioxidant and immunomodulatory properties in studies. Therefore, people who are sick and those who are not must strictly

Extrathoracic manifestations of COVID-19 in adults and presentation of the disease in children.

In March 2020, the World Health Organization declared a global pandemic of COVID-19, caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2); epidemic conditions continue in nearly all countries today. Although the symptoms and imaging manifestations of COVID-19 predominantly involve the respiratory system, it is fundamental to know the manifestations of the disease and its possible complications in other organs to help in diagnosis and orient the prognosis. To improve the diagnostic process without increasing the risk of contagion unnecessarily, it is crucial to know when e
