Premature infants are known to have elevated 17-hydroxyprogesterone and adrenal androgen concentrations immediately after birth, but the levels decrease rapidly. Virilization of normal premature female infants as a result of these high androgens has not been described. Three premature female infants born at 24 to 25 weeks' gestation, with birth weights 550 to 880 g and significant neonatal complications were noted to develop clitoromegaly 2 weeks to 3 months after birth. IMPORTANCE OF THE FIELD: Prostate cancer is the mostly commonly diagnosed non-skin cancer in males. The culmination of the last 70 years of clinical drug development has documented that androgen ablation plus taxane-based systemic chemotherapy enhances survival, but is not curative, in metastatic prostate cancer. To effect curative therapy, additional drugs must be developed that enhance the response when combined with androgen ablation/taxane therapy.

BACKGROUND: The survey was conducted to compare the influence of sex hormones in oral contraceptives (OCs) on female sexual function.
METHODS: One thousand eighty-six female German medical students completed an online-based questionnaire incorporating the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI). Oral contraceptives used were classified into those containing androgenic or antiandrogenic progestins and by ethinylestradiol (EE) dosage (20 mcg, 30 mcg and >30 mcg). Female Sexual Function Index scores in women using OCs were compared to those in nonusers.

A new mutant that has neither male nor female secondary sex characters was found in the medaka, Oryzias latipes. Both XX and XY mature mutants had gonads with many spermatozoa, but spawning did not occur when the mutants were paired with normal males or normal females. Dexamethasone (DXM) has been used to reduce clinical and/or biological hyperandrogenism in 18 adolescent patients treated by hydrocortisone and fludrocortisone for congenital virilizing adrenal hyperplasia (CAH). Some available oral contraceptive agents are unsuitable for the treatment of hirsutism since, although they suppress endogenous gonadotrophins and so ovarian androgen production, they contain a progestogen which is itself androgenic.
