Exploring UK breastmilk donors' perspectives on breastfeeding as a protective factor against breast cancer: a qualitative study.

OBJECTIVES: Breastfeeding is associated with a reduced risk of breast cancer yet awareness of this maternal health benefit remains limited. Public health messaging in the United Kingdom has traditionally emphasised infant benefits of breastfeeding with less attention to long-term maternal outcomes. This study aimed to explore breastmilk donor awareness of breastfeeding as a protective factor against breast cancer and their perspectives on communicating this information. DESIGN: Qualitative study using semistructured interviews analysed through reflexive thematic analysis, adopting a construct

Integration of deworming into primary healthcare in Western Kenya: a quasi-experimental evaluation.

INTRODUCTION: The WHO 2030 NTD roadmap calls for integrating mass drug administration (MDA) into primary healthcare (PHC) systems. A coverage evaluation survey conducted in Western Kenya exposed the persistent limitations of mass drug administration campaigns, showing that nearly 25% of surveyed individuals never received treatment. The effect of stock-outs and ineffective mobilizations were also noted. To consolidate the gains from previous mass drug administrations (MDAs), integration of MDA into Primary Health Care (PHC) services was piloted through the Deworming Innovation Fund by leveragi

Improving Doctors' Knowledge and Practices on Needle-Stick Injury Prevention and Management: A Two-Cycle Clinical Audit at Al Managil Teaching Hospital.

BACKGROUND: Needle-stick injuries (NSIs) pose a major occupational hazard for doctors, serving as a route for transmission of hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). International guidelines emphasize immediate wound care, avoidance of recapping, use of safety-engineered devices, and timely initiation of post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). However, knowledge and adherence remain suboptimal in many low-resource settings. This audit evaluated doctors' awareness, knowledge, and practices related to NSI prevention and management at Al Managil Teaching

Underload in sky: reducing the passive fatigue of pilots during cruise through an attention guided - active interactive seating system.

As highly automated flight systems and single-pilot operations are progressively implemented, the cruise phase is increasingly characterised by sustained underload and monotony, which predisposes pilots to passive fatigue. This condition impairs alertness and situation awareness, thus compromising flight safety. This study presents the development of an Attention Guided - Active Interactive Seating System (AG-AISS) to mitigate passive fatigue during automated cruise and enhance pilot alertness and situation awareness. Twenty-four male pilot trainees participated in an automated-cruise simulati

Differential Associations of Intrapersonal and Interpersonal Emotion Regulation with Generalized Anxiety and Social Withdrawal Among Children.

Anxiety and social withdrawal are common internalizing problems among children linked to poor emotion regulation (ER). We investigated how specific components of ER (emotion awareness, emotion regulation strategy) are associated with generalized anxiety and social withdrawal in the two ER domains (intrapersonal and interpersonal). Study participants were 398 fourth- and fifth-grade students (49% girls) and 22 teachers from a Midwestern state in the United States. Study constructs were measured with student self-report, peer nominations, and teacher reports. We found anxiety was linked to poore

Systemic comorbidities of rosacea: practice gaps among dermatologists.

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that is associated with multiple systemic comorbidities, with the strongest evidence linking rosacea to hypertension, dyslipidemia, inflammatory bowel disease, and anxiety and depression. To assess dermatologists' awareness of and screening practices for rosacea comorbidities, we developed a survey that was distributed to attendings and residents across four academic dermatology departments in Massachusetts. A total of 73 dermatologists with varying experience participated in the study. Findings demonstrated significant knowledge and practice ga

Is There an "Expert" Stranger Rapist?

The concept of expertise applied to the criminal context assumes that offenders are driven by the abilities to both maximize the payoffs and minimize the risks associated with the crime-commission. This study tested the articulation between these two types of decisions taken by stranger rapists to successfully commit their crime. Specifically, this study aims to identify whether offenders whose modus operandi is indicative of criminal expertise are more likely to use forensic awareness strategies. Multivariate analyses conducted on 1,551 cases showed that stranger rapists who adopted behaviors

Fasciculations demonstrate daytime consistency in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

INTRODUCTION: Fasciculations represent early neuronal hyperexcitability in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). To aid calibration as a disease biomarker, we set out to characterize the daytime variability of fasciculation firing. METHODS: Fasciculation awareness scores were compiled from 19 ALS patients. In addition, 10 ALS patients prospectively underwent high-density surface electromyographic (HDSEMG) recordings from biceps and gastrocnemius at three time-points during a single day. RESULTS: Daytime fasciculation awareness scores were low (mean: 0.28 muscle groups), demonstrating signific

Implications for PrEP Uptake in Young Adults Experiencing Homelessness: A Mixed Methods Study.

Youth experiencing homelessness (YEH) have a high risk of contracting HIV; however, they remain relatively unreached by pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)-based HIV prevention initiatives. We used a cross-sectional mixed-methods study to explore PrEP knowledge, interest, facilitators, and barriers among YEH. Young adults were recruited from agencies serving YEH in Houston, TX (n = 30) and Los Angeles, CA (n = 15) to participate in an electronic self-report survey and a semistructured interview. Survey results indicate that 68.2% of YEH had low or no prior knowledge of PrEP, though 63.7% reported

[More human than human: halitosis as the hallmark of pathological dental omission].

The theoretical perspective of the analysis conducted is linked to the fact that dental awareness should not be seen as something universal, independent from reality, though participating in its construction. This paper explores the idea symbolized in the colonization of contemporary Dentistry awareness to beyond « the more human than human ». With the example of the increasing pathologization of halitosis, as an objective disorder not only of oral health, but that affects individuals, this work develops an analysis of the (re)invention of pathologies, through visualization technologies in lat
