Behavioural activation for the prevention of poststroke depression in low-income older stroke survivors (LIVE WEL): protocol for a randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Poststroke depression (PSD) affects approximately 33% of stroke survivors and is associated with worse outcomes, poor quality of life (QOL) and mortality. Despite its prevalence and consequences, there is no consensus on the most effective strategy for PSD prevention. Behavioural activation (BA) is an effective intervention for depression across diverse populations and is considered safer, better tolerated and a longer-lasting alternative to antidepressant medications. This study aims to test the effectiveness of a remotely delivered BA intervention to prevent PSD (Tele-BA-S). M

Discomfort Avoidance and Desire for Normality Are Decision-Making Drivers of Footwear Choice in Underserved Communities at Risk of Diabetic Foot Ulcer.

BACKGROUND: Diabetes-related foot ulceration (DFU) is a serious complication that can lead to lower limb amputation or death. Custom-made footwear is a key preventative strategy, yet adherence to use is often low. The factors influencing decision-making for footwear use remain unclear, particularly among underserved groups such as people from low socioeconomic and South Asian backgrounds. This study aimed to identify the psychological mechanisms underlying footwear choice and adherence in people with diabetes from low socioeconomic and South Asian populations. METHODS: This study used a quali

A qualitative evaluation of cognitive-behavioural therapy components for social anxiety in autistic adults: Lived experiences from a modified group program.

Cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based treatment for social anxiety. However, despite the high prevalence of social anxiety among autistic adults, much less is known about how autistic people experience each CBT component used in treatment. This qualitative study explores autistic adults' perspectives on a modified cognitive-behaviour therapy group programme for social anxiety, focusing on the perceived effectiveness of CBT components and the identification of needed modifications. Twenty-seven participants who completed the intervention took part in semi-structured interviews.

Experience with gender affirming hormones and puberty blockers (gonadotropin releasing hormone agonist): a qualitative analysis of sexual function.

BACKGROUND: Gender-affirming medical therapy (GAMT), including puberty blockers (PB) and gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT), is part of the transition for many transgender and nonbinary (TGNB) individuals; however, there have been few studies investigating sexual function and desire during GAMT, and no reports on individuals who received PB. AIM: We aimed to qualitatively evaluate the sexual experience of TGNB individuals during GAMT and identify significant and consistent themes that arose from our analysis. METHODS: We performed an Institutional Review Board-approved two-institutional

Stratified reproduction and threats to reproductive justice for immigrants: Decision-making for fertility using an ecological model.

In recent years, immigrants in the U.S. have experienced shifting immigration policies, creating an environment of uncertainty. These policies often exacerbate social and economic vulnerabilities among the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the US. Stratified reproduction occurs when society or institutions deem certain individuals "undeserving" of reproduction. Undocumented immigrants in the U.S. experience a number of threats to their reproductive health. Yet, there is little empirical data on how immigration status may influence their decision-making to have children or not have children

"It's Important to Deconstruct Stigma and Respect the Beauty of Sexual Intimacy Among Older Patients:" HIV Prevention Education Among Older Adults: The Role of Clinicians.

Discussions of healthy aging often overlook sexual health due to ageism and misconceptions about older adults' sexuality. To address this gap, a health communication film intervention was evaluated among 193 social service clinicians, geriatric social work interns, and practicing clinicians. Using a mixed-methods design with pre- and posttests, participants showed a significant increase in HIV knowledge (M_pre = 7.46; M_post = 8.04; p < .001). Qualitative themes included greater awareness of sexual ageism, increased motivation for practice change, and recognition of the need for sexual health

The lived experience of Co-occurring food insecurity and food addiction: A qualitative study.

Household food insecurity affects 13.5% of US households and is associated with short and long-term negative health outcomes. Food addiction, which posits that highly processed (HP) foods may trigger addictive responses akin to substance use disorders (SUD), occurs in approximately 15% of adults. Food addiction is measured using the Yale Food Addiction Scale 2.0, which is based on the SUD criteria outlined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition. Although recent research suggests food insecurity and food addiction are associated among low-income adults, the

Examining Community Preferences for Adaption and Dissemination of an Efficacious Brief Intervention on Alcohol Use and Sexual Behavior.

Compared to other age groups, 18- to 25-year olds (young adults) are more likely to engage in heavy alcohol use and inconsistent contraceptive use, increasing their susceptibility to sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unintended pregnancy. The Studying Alcohol and Related Risks (STARR) intervention was efficacious in reducing young adult alcohol-related risky sexual behavior, including reducing the number of casual sexual partners and alcohol use prior to sex. We conducted a qualitative study to guide the adaptation of the STARR intervention to include additional content on contracepti
