Functional and Radiological Outcomes of Pediatric Both-Bone Forearm Fractures Treated with Titanium Elastic Nailing System: A Prospective Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: Diaphyseal fractures of the radius and ulna are among the most frequent long-bone injuries in children. While conservative management is often effective in stable fractures, surgical fixation is preferred for unstable or displaced fractures. The Titanium Elastic Nailing System (TENS) offers a minimally invasive fixation technique that preserves periosteal circulation and promotes early mobilization. This study aimed to evaluate the functional and radiological outcomes of pediatric both-bone forearm fractures treated with TENS. METHODS: A prospective observational study was conduct

Role of denosumab in lipid metabolism disorders: clinical significance and potential mechanisms.

PURPOSE: Lipid metabolism disorders, characterized by abnormal blood lipid levels, are central to the pathogenesis of obesity, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and atherosclerosis. These conditions increase the risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases (CVD), and stroke, highlighting the need for novel therapeutic approaches. Emerging evidence suggests a complex interplay between bone and lipid metabolism, with RANKL playing a key role. This review explores the potential of denosumab, a RANKL-targeting monoclonal antibody, in modulating lipid metabolism and its broader metaboli

Tectorigenin Ameliorates Glucocorticoid-Induced Osteoporosis by Inhibiting the NF-κB Signal Pathway and Modulating Treg-Th17 Cell Balance.

Glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis is a common clinical orthopaedic disease, primarily due to excessive use of hormones. Tectorigenin has shown a certain efficacy in treating osteoporosis, but its underlying mechanisms are not yet fully understood. This study aimed to evaluate tectorigenin (TEC)'s potential in treating glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis (GIOP) by restoring the osteoclast-osteoblast balance. By employing molecular docking to study TEC-RANKL interaction and RNA sequencing to map TEC's anti-osteoporotic pathways, we conducted in vitro tests on TEC's effects on osteoclast differ

Making VFA Part of Standard Clinical DXA Assessment for Osteoporosis Care: Recommendations From the International Working Group on DXA Best Practices.

Fracture risk is strongly dependent on the presence of previous fractures, especially vertebral. In this paper, we focus on the use of vertebral fracture assessment (VFA) with dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA), as vertebral fractures can be clinically silent, and their identification is critical for optimal bone health management. Our tool was to inform health care professionals about the clinical utility of accurate recognition and classification of vertebral fractures. A comprehensive narrative review was conducted on the clinical relevance of diagnosing vertebral fractures, the technic

A Multimodal Approach for Limb Preservation of Dehisced Amputations with Bone Exposure.

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of nontraumatic amputations continues to rise annually. The length of the preserved limb is directly associated with the success of ambulation. Wound infections after lower extremity amputations are very common, and reoperation is necessary in up to 61%. When dehisced stumps are complicated by bone exposure and osteomyelitis, more proximal amputation is traditionally performed. METHODS: A retrospective chart review of the electronic medical records from 2018 to 2024 was conducted at our institution, and dehisced amputated stumps with bone exposure were included for

Histopathological analysis from proximal bone samples during minor amputations for diabetes-related foot infections: A single-center, retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: Minor amputations, defined as resection of bone below the ankle, are important procedures for managing diabetes-related foot infections (DFI). The optimal method to determine the presence of residual bone infection is unclear and unplanned reoperation rates are common. Although international guidelines endorse the use of histopathology, this approach has not been universally adopted. PURPOSE: We evaluated the utility of histopathological analysis from samples collected from 'proximal' or 'marginal' bone during minor amputations. STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective, single-center study

Validation of an automated spinal fusion finite element modeling framework for the prediction of pedicle screw loosening.

This study aimed to validate a patient-specific biomechanical simulation pipeline for predicting pedicle screw loosening risk in posterior spinal fusion. In particular, the research questioned whether this simulation, which integrates CT-derived bone properties, musculoskeletal force data, and finite element analysis, can outperform conventional CT attenuation measurements taken in both the vertebral body and along the planned screw trajectory. We conducted a retrospective database analysis, including patients who underwent lumbar spinal fusion with preoperative and postoperative CT scans. Scr

A retrospective comparison of hyperbaric oxygen and core decompression for mild to moderate avascular necrosis of the femoral head.

Avascular necrosis of the femoral head is a condition resulting from disrupted blood supply, leading to ischemia and bone tissue necrosis. Core decompression (CD) restores the blood supply through pressure relief, whereas hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) enhances tissue oxygenation and promotes bone repair. Their combined use may complement each other in improving blood supply, promoting bone healing, and inhibiting disease progression, thus achieving a better therapeutic effect. To assess and compare the efficacy of HBO and/or CD for treating mild to moderate femoral head avascular necrosis, a retrosp
