We report a case of transitional cell carcinoma of urachus in a 72-year-old man. At follow up cystoscopy for past history of bladder cancer, we found a papillary tumor in the right orifice that came out to the bladder cavity intermittently. Although there was no cancerous lesion on the surface of the bladder mucosa, a submucosal eminence at the dome of bladder was observed. PURPOSE: Radiation therapy is the treatment of choice for early glottic squamous cell cancer in many institutions over the world. Despite a relatively homogenous clinical model of T1 glottic tumors for the fractionation studies, the relationships between dose-time parameters remain unclear. The case of a 61-year-old man with haematuria, in whom CT demonstrated a solid renal mass and extensive retroperitoneal infiltration, is presented. This combination of CT findings resulted in significant diagnostic uncertainty. Pathological analysis demonstrated renal cell carcinoma, with secondary amyloidosis in the retroperitoneum. Amyloidosis secondary to renal cell carcinoma has not been previously described as a cause of retroperitoneal infiltration.

TGF-beta is a negative regulator of liver growth. Smad family of genes, as mediators of TGF-beta pathway, are candidate tumor suppressor genes in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We studied 35 HCC and non-tumour liver tissues for possible mutations in Smad2 and Smad4 genes. A case of localised African histoplasmosis with an unusual presentation in a 56 year old Nigerian farmer is reported. The lesion presented as an ulcer clinically mimicking squamous cell carcinoma of the lower lip. An incisional biopsy and culture studies confirmed African histoplasmosis and the ulcer healed spontaneously without treatment. This case is reported to highlight the unusual location and clinical course of African histoplasmosis.

Adenoid cystic carcinomas are malignant epithelial tumors that originate in body regions containing exocrine and eccrine glands. Their most common location is the salivary glands. These tumors have specific, highly individualized histopathological and clinical features. Three cases of adenoid cystic carcinoma in different sites, palate, sublingual gland, and nasal cavity, are reported. The literature is reviewed for information about the fundamental clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic aspects of these tumors.

A case of skin metastasis from hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is reported that resembled pyogenic granuloma. An easily bleeding, cutaneous nodule on the chin of a 62-year-old Japanese male was resected under the diagnosis of pyogenic granuloma. Histology, however, indicated HCC. Cutaneous metastases from HCC are very rare, but the possibility must be considered for unusual nodules resembling pyogenic granuloma.

BACKGROUND: Basaloid squamous cell carcinoma (BSCC) is a high grade, aggressive variant of squamous cell carcinoma with a predilection for the larynx, hypopharynx, tonsils, and base of the tongue. OBJECTIVE: To examine the role of neck dissection in the treatment of metastatic stage 3 nonseminomatous germ-cell tumors (NSGCTs) of testicular origin.
METHOD: A retrospective review was made of 45 patients with metastatic NSGCT who underwent 48 unilateral and 3 bilateral neck dissections. Only level III-VI nodes were dissected, often with concomitant or staged mediastinal dissection, thoracotomy, and/or retroperitoneal node dissection. OBJECTIVES: The major disadvantage of nephron-sparing surgery for renal cell carcinoma is the risk of local recurrence. This is most likely a manifestation of undetected small additional tumors in the renal remnant. To define more clearly the incidence and nature of unilateral and bilateral multifocal tumors, an autopsy study was undertaken.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In a series of 14,793 autopsies from 1985 to 1995, 260 renal cell carcinomas were found. In all cases of renal cell carcinoma a search for small renal lesions was performed in the apparently normal-appearing portion of the kidneys.
