Reported sexual assault in Nashville-Davidson County, Tennessee, 1980 to 1982.

A review of the experience of 440 women reporting they had been raped was made from their initial contact with the police, through their medical-forensic examination at the county hospital emergency room, by any judicial proceedings, and by their longer term psychological counseling. The data were then compared with those from other municipalities. The assailant's use of a weapon seemed the strongest variable correlated with the victim's decision to press for prosecution. Being raped by a stranger or being physically injured did not correlate with this decision. Women most likely to have been

Minimal Perceived Discomfort During Oscillometric Blood Pressure Measurement in Children: A Cross-Sectional Study With Implications for Systematic Screening.

Routine blood pressure measurement in children has been proposed for systematic screening, but concerns remain regarding potential harm, including procedural discomfort. This has not previously been studied. The primary aim of this study was to assess the perceived discomfort of routine blood pressure (BP) measurement in children and adolescents, and thereby inform the procedure's suitability for potential systematic screening. Secondly, we aimed to examine whether sex, age, and previous experience with blood pressure measurement were associated with the perceived discomfort. This cross-sectio

Child maltreatment and harsh parenting in Canada during the COVID-19 pandemic: a scoping review of the epidemiological evidence, methodological and data gaps, and recommendations for strengthening public health data.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic caused widespread disruptions to social relationships and caregiving responsibilities, potentially modifying risks for child maltreatment (CM) and harsh parenting (HP). However, the impact of the pandemic on the epidemiology of CM and HP is unclear. OBJECTIVE: The objectives of this scoping review were to summarize evidence on the epidemiology of CM and HP in Canada during the COVID-19 pandemic, assess the quality of the included evidence to support the interpretation of the findings, and synthesize published recommendations to strengthen data. METHODS: We c

Ultrasonographic diagnosis of pure inversion of Meckel's diverticulum without obstruction in a child: a case report and literature review.

INTRODUCTION: Meckel's diverticulum (MD) is the most common congenital malformation of the gastrointestinal tract. Most cases are asymptomatic, while a minority may develop complications such as hematochezia, diverticulitis, and intestinal obstruction. When a Meckel's diverticulum inverts into the lumen of the ileum rather than protruding outward from the intestinal wall, it is referred to as an inverted Meckel's diverticulum, which is a very rare condition. Although inverted MD frequently presents with intestinal obstruction, cases of pure inversion without obstruction are exceptionally rare.

Management of Pregnancy in Patients With an Implanted Spinal Cord Stimulator: A European Expert Survey.

BACKGROUND: Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is a surgical treatment for severe chronic neuropathic pain and is a common procedure in women of child-bearing age. Theoretical concerns about the safety of active SCS treatment during pregnancy have led to a widespread practice of recommending deactivation of SCS in pregnant women. The presence of an SCS device also has implications for anesthetic management during labor. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An online questionnaire-based expert survey was conducted among centers in the Nordic countries, Benelux, and Germany, a territory with a population of 140 m

Air pollution exposures in early life and brain development in children (ABC): protocol for a pregnancy cohort study.

INTRODUCTION: Air pollution is linked with poor neurodevelopment in high-income countries. Comparable data are scant for low-income countries, where exposures are higher. Longitudinal pregnancy cohort studies are optimal for individual exposure assessment during critical windows of brain development and examination of neurodevelopment. This study aims to determine the association between prenatal ambient air pollutant exposure and neurodevelopment in children aged 12, 24 and 36 months through a collaborative, capacity-enriching research partnership. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This observational co
