In Vivo [18F]MK6240 PET Reveals Atypical Patterns of Early Tau Deposition and Evidence for Primary Age-Related Tauopathy in Community-Residing Adults.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: [18F]MK-6240, a second-generation tau PET tracer, enables in vivo detection of tau neurofibrillary tangles-one of the key pathologic hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Building on prior work demonstrating the utility of [18F]MK-6240 for in vivo Braak staging, this study assessed the frequency of typical and atypical tau deposition patterns in a cognitively unimpaired, community-residing cohort and associations with early memory changes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred seventy-three older adults (aged 69 +/- 5.7 years, 49% female) were recruited prospectively fro

Terminally differentiated effector memory T cells associate with cognitive and AD-related biomarkers in an aging-based community cohort.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The immune response changes during aging and the progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and related dementia (ADRD). Terminally differentiated effector memory T cells (called TEMRA) are important during aging and AD due to their cytotoxic phenotype and association with cognitive decline. However, it is not clear if the changes seen in TEMRAs are specific to AD-related cognitive decline specifically or are more generally correlated with cognitive decline. This study aimed to examine whether TEMRAs are associated with cognition and plasma biomarkers of AD, neurodegenerat

A rat model of ischaemic or dilated cardiomyopathy for investigating left ventricular repair surgery.

INTRODUCTION: The Personal Helpers and Mentors (PHaMs) service is a non-clinical, community-based Australian Government initiative aimed at increasing opportunities for recovery for people whose lives are severely affected by mental illness. Using a strengths-based recovery model, PHaMs caseworkers support and mentor people 'at risk of falling through the gaps' between state funded clinical treatment services and federally funded social services (such as supported housing, education and employment). While there is evidence that PHaMs realises its aim in metropolitan areas, little is kn

Communication interventions for autism spectrum disorder in minimally verbal children.

BACKGROUND: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has an estimated prevalence of around 1.7% of the population. People with ASD often also have language difficulties, and about 25% to 30% of children with ASD either fail to develop functional language or are minimally verbal. The ability to communicate effectively is an essential life skill, and difficulties with communication can have a range of adverse outcomes, including poorer academic achievement, behavioural difficulties and reduced quality of life. Historically, most studies have investigated communication interventions for ASD in verbal child

Promotores' perspectives on the virtual adaptation of a hereditary breast cancer education program.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the United States (U.S.) and the leading cause of cancer related death among U.S. Hispanics/Latinas (H/Ls). H/Ls have lower rates of screening and longer time to follow up after an abnormal mammogram. We developed a comprehensive community health educator (promotores)-led education and risk identification program for Spanish-speaking H/Ls in California to increase mammography screening, genetic testing, and the understanding of the impact of family history on cancer risk. Due to COVID-19, we adapted the program to a virtual platform. The expe

A network analysis investigation of the comorbidity between sleep dysfunction and PTSD symptomatology among Filipino domestic workers in Macao (SAR) China.

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is highly comorbid with sleep dysfunction. This association was previously explained based on cognitive and emotional dysfunction. The current study extends this literature by investigating the symptom level comorbidity of sleep dysfunction and DSM-5 PTSD utilizing a network approach. Participants were trauma-exposed female Filipino domestic workers (N = 1241). Network analysis was applied to 23 items: 18 items from PCL-5 measuring PTSD (Community 1) and 5 items from PSQI assessing sleep dysfunction (Community 2). The results showed that the symptoms within
