Intracranial epidermoid cysts are usually located in the paramedian regions with characteristic imaging features. Intracystic hemorrhage is rarely reported with most in the cerebellopontine angle area. We described a case of hemorrhagic epidermoid cyst in cerebellar vermis. The patient was a 21-year-old male presenting with a first episode of convulsive seizure attack as the initial and sole symptom. Head computed tomography showed a mass lesion in the cerebellar vermis with high density and nodular low density in the back of the lesion. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed most of the lesion w

Paediatric penile cysts are uncommon. We report a five-year-old child with an asymptomatic progressively growing cyst on the ventral aspect of the penis after a hypospadias repair. The patient presented to the Cooper Health Clinic, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in March 2012. A complete excision of the cyst was performed. Histology results delineated a capsulated benign trichilemmal cyst. No recurrence or complications were reported in the 26 months following the excision. We recommend an early and complete excision of all penile cysts to prevent the risk of urethral obstruction, infection, inf

Dermoid cysts are rare lesions of the CNS with a slow rate of growth. For this reason, they are rarely discovered during infancy. Although benign, these cysts may be associated with devastating complications due to mass effect or meningitis. The discovery of completely asymptomatic dermoid cysts in the pediatric population is exceedingly rare; however, correct and prompt diagnosis is crucial for early surgical treatment to minimize morbidity and mortality. The authors report the unique case of a posterior fossa dermoid cyst discovered in a 5-month-old girl and monitored for 2.5 years with seri

An elderly man presented with a 2-year history of refractory hypertension. His medical history, physical examination and laboratory findings were unremarkable. On subsequent ultrasound study for the evaluation of renal artery stenosis, a large mass obliterating the adrenal gland containing internal cystic structures was identified. A CT study confirmed the diagnosis of primary adrenal gland hydatid cyst. Following surgical resection, the patient's hypertension resolved and medications to control blood pressure were discontinued.

Hydatid disease, caused by the parasite Echinococcus granulosus, mostly affects the liver and the lungs with hydatid cysts which consist of three layers: (1) the outer pericyst; (2) the middle laminated membrane; and (3) the inner germinal layer. Pericyst, as the outermost layer of the hydatid cyst, is made by host cells encasing the hydatid cyst. An extremely close interaction exists between this host tissue and the parasite, and any degenerative changes of the pericyst would result in hydatid cyst degeneration or rupture. The pericyst plays an undeniably important role in the development and

Bronchogenic cysts are among developmental disorders of the primitive foregut which are typically found above the diaphragm. Bronchial cysts discovered in the abdominal cavity or retroperitoneum are extremely rare. We present a rare case of a retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst which was incidentally detected after a wrestling injury in a 23-year-old man who had a negative medical history. Although initial imaging studies suggested an adrenal tumor, histopathological analysis provided a definite diagnosis of bronchogenic cyst. Though rare, bronchogenic cysts must be considered in the differentia

Splenic cysts are uncommon lesions and are classified as true or pseudocysts based on the presence of an epithelial lining. True congenital cysts can be epidermoid, dermoid or endodermoid and require surgery when large, sympthomatic or complicated. Ultrasonography and computerised tomography scan are useful for diagnosis and serum test for echinococcosis should be done. Several procedures, open or laparoscopic, have been described, with emphasis on the spleen-preserving surgery, when possible. We present a boy with a giant symptomatic epidermoid cyst in whom total splenectomy by open technique

The aim of this study was to report our experience with the llaparoscopic transperitoneal treatment of simple renal cysts, to analyze the immediate and long-term clinical outcomes, and to evaluate the efficacy and safety of this miniinvasive surgical technique. Between 2009 and 2014 we diagnosed and treated a total of 48 patients with symptomatic simple renal cysts. The diagnosis was set up by ultrasound (US) and/or computed tomography (CT) examination. All cases were managed by transperitoneal laparoscopic cyst decortication. Demographic data, perioperative blood loss, duration of operative p

INTRODUCTION: Hydatid disease is a major health problem in some parts of the world. There are several nonoperative and operative ways to treat hydatic disease. The aim of this retrospective study is to assess the rate of postoperative complications, mortality rate, hospitalization period, and recurrence for capsulorrhaphy method, and to compare it with other hydatic cyst management techniques.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: An open surgical procedure using capsulorrhaphy technique was performed on 250 patients (130 men and 120 women) with uncomplicated hydatic cysts in the Northwest of Iran, between 1

Bronchogenic cysts are congenital malformations thought to originate from the primitive ventral foregut, and they are the most common type of mediastinal cystic lesion. The clinical presentation of a bronchogenic cyst is variable, from respiratory distress at birth to late appearance of symptoms. Most bronchogenic cysts originate in the mediastinum, and 15% to 20% occur in the lung parenchyma. Various malignant transformations have been reported in the literature. In this report, we describe a case of schwannoma in an intrapulmonary bronchogenic cyst wall in a 38-year-old man, which was found

Chondroblastoma of the patella is rare. Aneurysmal bone cysts, which develop from a prior lesion such as a chondroblastoma, are seldom seen in the patella. The authors report a case of a 36-year-old man who presented with 2 years of right knee pain without calor, erythema, pain on palpation, or abnormal range of motion. Radiological studies suggested aneurysmal bone cyst. The lesion was excised with curettage and the residual cavity filled with autogenous bone graft. Histopathology revealed chondroblastoma associated with a secondary aneurysmal bone cyst. In the follow-up period, the patient d

Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) are benign, expansile, blood-filled, osteolytic lesions with internal septations that may be intraosseous or extraosseous. The cysts may cause local mass effect, and changes in the regional vascular supply necessitating intervention. A case of an intracranial, intradural ABC in a young male patient with progressively severe headaches is presented. This is only the third recorded intradural case, the majority of these rare lesions being extracranial and only a minute fraction intracranial.

Ectopic pancreas located in the mediastium is an extremely rare anomaly. We present a case of an ectopic pancreas located in a giant mediastinal cyst in an 18-year-old man. He presented with symptoms of dyspnea due to external compression of the cyst on the left main bronchus. Complete surgical resection was performed through median sternotomy, with relief of the bronchial compression postoperatively. Literature review showed 20 previously reported cases. These masses were usually large (>10 cm), almost exclusively located in the anterior mediastinum, predominately cystic in nature and general

The most common causes of mediastinal masses are thymomas, lymphomas and neuromas. Mediastinal cysts, such as bronchogenic cysts, which are usually benign, are less common. We report the case of a 59-year-old woman with a history of progressive dysphagia. A computed tomography scan revealed a cystic lesion in the anterior mediastinum. The cyst was surgically resected and turned out to be a benign parathyroid cyst. The patient's symptoms disappeared after surgical removal. Both the serum calcium and parathyroid hormone levels were normal before, and after surgery. Parathyroid cysts are rare les

Dermoid cysts in oral cavity are unusual lesions. Their etiology is not yet clear and can be associated with trapped cells as a result of the inclusion error resulting in the development into the ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm tissues. The aim of this case report is to evidence the presence of a dermoid cyst in the floor of mouth surgically removed. In the present case, the lesion showed soft consistency, floating, regular borders, smooth surface, and the same color as the adjacent mucosa, asymptomatic and measuring 4.5 × 5.5 cm in its greatest diameter. The initial diagnostic was ranula in

Epidermal cysts are very rare. It is more common in males than in females and the most common site of presentation are the hairy sites. We came across two rare cases of epidermal cysts. In one case, a parous lady presented with an adnexal mass and D/D of broad ligament fibroid or ovarian mass was considered which turned out to be a cyst containing cheesy pultaceous material. In the other case, a parous lady presented with a mass arising from the posterior fourchette that contained cheesy pultaceous material on excision. In both cases histopathology confirmed it to be epidermal cysts. Epidermal

The urachus is the remnant of the cloaca, which in adults attaches the bladder dome to the umbilicus. After birth it obliterates and presents as the midline umbilical ligament. Patent urachal anomalies are usually detected in childhood. In adults they occur very rarely and the presentation and diagnosis may be occasionally challenging. We present and discuss the case of an infected urachal cyst found in a 30-year-old adult.
