Self-sampling for cervical screening offered at the point of invitation: A cross-sectional study of preferences in England.

OBJECTIVES: This study assessed preferences for human papillomavirus (HPV) self-sampling if offered as an alternative to clinician-based screening at the point of invitation for cervical screening. SETTING AND METHODS: An online questionnaire was completed by screening-eligible women living in England (n = 3672). Logistic regressions explored associations between demographic characteristics and screening preferences, stratified by previous screening attendance. Reasons for preferences were also assessed. RESULTS: Half of participants (51.4%) intended to choose self-sampling, 36.5% preferred

Design of a pragmatic randomized controlled trial of home-based human papillomavirus (HPV) self-sampling for increasing cervical cancer screening uptake in a U.S. healthcare system: The STEP trial.

BACKGROUND: Mailing HPV self-sampling kits to overdue individuals increases cervical cancer screening adherence; offering self-sampling to previously adherent individuals has not been evaluated in the U.S. Given heterogeneity of the U.S. health system and population, data are needed to optimize how HPV self-sampling is offered to individuals who are overdue, due after successful past screening, or have an unknown screening history. METHODS: STEP is a pragmatic randomized controlled trial set within a U.S. integrated healthcare delivery system, designed to compare different outreach approaches

Validation of HPV triage in cytology-based cervical cancer screening for ASC-US cases using Japanese data.

OBJECTIVE: In Japan, cervical cancer screening consists of a cytology examination performed once every 2 years. We verified whether the risk of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) 3 disease or higher (CIN3+) was equivalent to that of cytology negative cases (negative for intraepithelial lesion or malignancy [NILM]) for patients with a cytological diagnosis of "atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US)" who tested negative for human papillomavirus (HPV). METHODS: Data from a total of 22,925 cases who had undergone cervical cancer screening at least twice or who had com

[Precancerous lesions of the cervix and their treatment].

Global cervical cancer incidence and mortality rank fourth in women with malignant tumors, which have been reduced by population-based cervical cancer screening. The previously used Papanicolaou cytological testing of cervical smears was replaced by the Bethesda classification, which facilitated the early detection of the pre-cancerous lesions, used together with other methods such as colposcopy, testing of high-risk genotypes of human papillomavirus (hrHPV) and molecular techniques. The recently introduced terminology as ASC (atypical squamous cells), ASC-US (ASC, undetermined significance),

Comparison of self-collected versus clinician collected cervicovaginal specimens for detection of high risk human papillomavirus among HIV infected women in Ethiopia.

BACKGROUND: In order to meet the WHO 2030 cervical cancer elimination program, evaluation and utilization of sensitive testing method, and feasible sampling technique is a paradigm for enhancing cervical cancer screening coverage. Self-sampling for screening of HPV DNA testing is one of the easiest and sensitive techniques, though the evidence was limited in the Ethiopian context. This study aimed to compare the performance of self-collected vaginal specimen versus clinician collected cervical specimen for detection of HPV among HIV positive women in Ethiopia. METHODS: We conducted a comparat

Implementation of artificial intelligence algorithms for melanoma screening in a primary care setting.

Skin cancer is currently the most common type of cancer among Caucasians. The increase in life expectancy, along with new diagnostic tools and treatments for skin cancer, has resulted in unprecedented changes in patient care and has generated a great burden on healthcare systems. Early detection of skin tumors is expected to reduce this burden. Artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms that support skin cancer diagnoses have been shown to perform at least as well as dermatologists' diagnoses. Recognizing the need for clinically and economically efficient means of diagnosing skin cancers at early

Cancer Incidence and Cancer Screening Practices Among a Cohort of Persons Receiving HIV Care in Washington, DC.

In this era of effective combination antiretroviral therapy the incidence of AIDS defining cancers (ADCs) is projected to decline while the incidence of certain non-AIDS defining cancers (NADCs) increases. Some of these NADCs are potentially preventable with appropriate cancer screening. We examined cancer incidence, screening eligibility, and receipt of screening among persons actively enrolled in the DC Cohort, a longitudinal observational cohort of PLWH, between 2011 and 2017. Cancer screening eligibility was determined based on age, sex, smoking history and co-morbidity data available and

Multi-step validation of a deep learning-based system for the quantification of bowel preparation: a prospective, observational study.

BACKGROUND: Inadequate bowel preparation is associated with a decrease in adenoma detection rate (ADR). A deep learning-based bowel preparation assessment system based on the Boston bowel preparation scale (BBPS) has been previously established to calculate the automatic BBPS (e-BBPS) score (ranging 0-20). The aims of this study were to investigate whether there was a statistically inverse relationship between the e-BBPS score and the ADR, and to determine the threshold of e-BBPS score for adequate bowel preparation in colonoscopy screening. METHODS: In this prospective, observational study,

Detection of Cervical Lesions and Cancer in Air-Dried Cytologic Smears by Combined Analysis of mRNA and miRNA Expression Levels.

Cervical cancer screening is based on cytologic analysis and high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) testing, each having their drawbacks. Implementation of new biomarker-based methods may improve screening accuracy. Here, the levels of 25 microRNAs (miRNAs, miRs) and 12 mRNAs involved in cervical carcinogenesis in 327 air-dried Papanicolaou-stained cervical smears from patients with cervical precancerous lesions, cancer, or without the disease were estimated by real-time PCR. Using logistic regression analysis, small-scale miRNA-based, mRNA-based, and combined molecular classifiers were built

Possible high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (pHSIL) in the new cervical screening paradigm: The outcomes and the role of clinicopathological review.

BACKGROUND: A renewed National Cervical Screening Program (NCSP) was introduced in Australia in December 2017. Under the renewed NCSP, there are limited data to guide the management of discordant colposcopy and biopsy results after a liquid-based cytology (LBC) finding of 'possible high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion' (pHSIL). AIMS: This study aims to determine the proportion of women referred with pHSIL who are found to have HSIL, identify influencing factors of women most at risk, and examine the role that cytopathology review plays in management decisions.
