[Surgery for advanced stage ovarian cancer: Article drafted from the French Guidelines in oncology entitled "Initial management of patients with epithelial ovarian cancer" developed by FRANCOGYN, CNGOF, SFOG, GINECO-ARCAGY under the aegis of CNGOF and endorsed by INCa].

Debulking surgery is the key step of advanced stage ovarian cancer treatment with chemotherapy. The quality of surgical resection is the main prognosis factor, thus a complete resection must be achieved (grade A) in an expert center (grade B). Surgery for stage IV is possible and has a benefit in case of complete peritoneal resection (LoE3). Pelvic and aortic lymphadenectomies are recommended in case of clinical or radiological suspicious lymph nodes (grade B). In absence of clinical or radiological suspicious lymph nodes and in case of complete peritoneal resection during initial debulking su

Changes of vision-related quality of life in retinal detachment patients after cataract surgery.

Rhegmatenous retinal detachment (RRD) is one of the most serious complications after phacoemulsification combined with intraocular lens implantation surgery. It has been reported that vision-related quality of life (VRQoL), as well as visual acuity rapidly decreased when RRD developed. However, little is known of the VRQoL in those RRD patients after anatomical retinal re-attachment, especially whether or not the VRQoL is higher than that before cataract surgery. In this prospective case series study, we use the Chinese-version low vision quality of life questionnaire (CLVQOL) to assess the ch

Video-assisted thoracic surgery. The Chang Gung experience.

Thoracoscopy has assumed a major role in the management of a variety of surgical diseases of the chest. This technique, which was primarily devised for diagnostic purposes, has subsequently come to be used for therapeutic applications in most centers today. In this report we review 300 cases of therapeutic thoracic procedures in which a video-assisted technique was used. We describe mainly our own experience and the basic approach strategies we found helpful in the video-assisted procedures. No complications or deaths were attributable to these procedures. Our conclusions were as follows: (1)

Surgical site infections are independently associated with the development of postoperative acute-on-chronic liver failure in liver cirrhosis.

Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) is associated with organ failure and high short-term mortality. Bacterial infections and surgery have been reported as major precipitants for ACLF. However, detailed characterization of postoperative infections after elective surgery in patients with liver cirrhosis and their impact on the development of ACLF have not been investigated yet. A total of 235 patients with cirrhosis without ACLF and proven bacterial infections undergoing elective surgery were included. The primary end point was the development of ACLF within 28 days after surgery, and secondar

Are preoperative oral antibiotics effective in reducing the incidence of anastomotic leakage after colorectal cancer surgery? Study protocol for a prospective, multicentre, randomized controlled study.

INTRODUCTION: The optimal preoperative preparation for elective colorectal cancer surgery has been debated in academic circles for decades. Previously, several expert teams have conducted studies on whether preoperative mechanical bowel preparation and oral antibiotics can effectively reduce the incidence of postoperative complications, such as surgical site infections and anastomotic leakage. Most of the results of these studies have suggested that preoperative mechanical bowel preparation for elective colon surgery has no significant effect on the occurrence of surgical site infections and a
