Fatigue fracture of the ulna occurring in pitchers of fast-pitch softball.

We have reported three cases of fatigue fracture of the ulna in male pitchers of fast-pitch softball. To elucidate the etiology of injury, we first selected three healthy male and three healthy female pitchers from a well-trained college team and analyzed their forearm movement by high-speed cinematography. This showed slight flexion of the elbow joints during wind-up motion, dorsal flexion of the hand joints upon releasing the ball, and extreme pronation of the forearms during the follow-through. We then took 8 mm CT scanning sections of the forearms. Using these images, we investigated shape

Therapeutic efficacy of thiocolchicoside-nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug combination in pain management: A systematic review and cross-sectional real-world study.

BACKGROUND: Thiocolchicoside (TCC), a muscle relaxant with anti-inflammatory properties, is often used alongside nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to treat musculoskeletal pain. This synergistic approach leverages the complementary mechanisms of action, providing more effective relief for conditions such as arthritis, muscle spasms, and soft tissue injuries. AIM: To evaluate the comparative efficacy of the combination therapy of TCC and NSAIDs vs NSAID monotherapy in pain management. METHODS: A systematic search of PubMed and Google Scholar databases through October 2024 was perf

Using Dorsal Metacarpal Artery Perforator Flap in the Soft Tissue Reconstruction of Traumatic Finger Defects: A Single-Center Study.

INTRODUCTION: The reconstruction of soft tissue defects of fingers is a challenge due to the limitations of local tissue availability. The dorsal metacarpal artery perforator (DMAP) flap is a vascular island flap raised on the dorsum of the hand, and it is a good option for finger reconstruction by replacing similar-for-similar in a single operation. In this study, we would like to share our experience of using the DMAP flap in cases of various traumatic finger defects. MATERIALS AND METHODS: From November 2016 to May 2019, patients who had traumatic finger injuries and had undergone DMAP fla

Cortical Re-organization After Traumatic Brain Injury Elicited Using Functional Electrical Stimulation Therapy: A Case Report.

Functional electrical stimulation therapy (FEST) can improve motor function after neurological injuries. However, little is known about cortical changes after FEST and weather it can improve motor function after traumatic brain injury (TBI). Our study examined cortical changes and motor improvements in one male participant with chronic TBI suffering from mild motor impairment affecting the right upper-limb during 3-months of FEST and during 3-months follow-up. In total, 36 sessions of FEST were applied to enable upper-limb grasping and reaching movements. Short-term assessments carried out usi

Radiation dermatitis, burns, and recall phenomena: Meaningful instances of immunocompromised district.

Ionizing and ultraviolet radiations, as well as burns, can selectively damage and immunologically mark the cutaneous area they act on through direct and indirect mechanisms. After the causal event has disappeared, the affected skin district may appear clinically normal, but its immune behavior is often compromised forever. In fact, irradiated or burned skin areas undergo a destabilization of the immune control, which can lead to either a reduction of immunity (as suggested by the facilitated local occurrence of tumors and infections) or an excess of it (as suggested by the possible local onset

A novel procedure for transtracheal resection for recurrent thyroid cancer involving a trachea and esophagus.

BACKGROUND: Surgery remains the main treatment for locally advanced thyroid cancers invading the trachea, esophagus, and recurrent laryngeal nerve. However, extensive resection of such tumors can sometimes involve difficulties and may result in the deterioration of the patient's quality of life. The surgeon should consider not only the patient's prognosis but also the preservation of postoperative function. METHODS: This report describes a minimally invasive surgical procedure for recurrent poorly differentiated papillary thyroid carcinoma involving the trachea and esophagus. To decrease the

Psychogenic movement disorders.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This review focuses on recent studies assessing clinical features and laboratory findings that may help diagnose psychogenic movement disorders, and the ongoing controversy about the relationship of these disorders with preceding peripheral injury. RECENT FINDINGS: 'Organic' movement disorders may still be misdiagnosed as psychogenic. Probably more commonly, however, psychogenic movement disorders are underdiagnosed. Most features typically associated with recognized movement disorders, including geste antagoniste or treatment-induced dyskinesias, can be seen in psychogenic

Long-term outcomes of vascular grafting of medium-sized vessels of wrist and hand in systemic sclerosis patients with medication refractory Raynaud's.

Objective: Systemic sclerosis is characterized by vasculopathy at the microvascular level and less commonly the macrovascular level. The vasculopathy in systemic sclerosis, based on its functional and structural changes, leads to symptoms of vasospasm (Raynaud's phenomenon) and tissue injury. In most cases, preventive actions and pharmacotherapy provide beneficial treatment options; however, in severe cases, painful ulcerations, gangrene, and digital amputations may occur with treatment. In medication refractory cases, revascularization of medium and small vessels has been pursued. Other studi

Visuomotor discordance during visually-guided hand movement in virtual reality modulates sensorimotor cortical activity in healthy and hemiparetic subjects.

We investigated neural effects of visuomotor discordances during visually-guided finger movements. A functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI)-compatible data glove was used to actuate (in real-time) virtual hand models shown on a display in first person perspective. In Experiment 1, we manipulated virtual hand motion to simulate either hypometric or unintentional (actuation of a mismatched finger) feedback of sequential finger flexion in healthy subjects. Analysis of finger motion revealed no significant differences in movement behavior across conditions, suggesting that between-condition
