Phosphorus recovery as struvite from swine wastewater was carried out. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Xray diffraction (XRD) and mass balance analysis were utilized to analyze the species of precipitated minerals under different pH conditions. We describe the synthesis, the physicochemical characterization and the biological evaluation of three novel pH-sensitive systems prepared derivatizing polysorbate 20 (Tween 20) with glycine, N-methyl-glycine and N,N-dimethyl-glycine (TW20-GLY, TW20-MMG and TW20-DMG). A novel sorbent for arsenic, TiO(2)-impregnated chitosan bead (TICB), has been synthesized and successfully tested. Kinetic plots, pH dependence, isotherm data, and bead morphology are reported. Equilibrium is achieved after 185 h in batch experiments with exposure to UV light. The TICB system performs similarly to the mass equivalent of neat TiO(2) nanopowder.
