Interprofessional collaboration competency development in healthcare students during clinical placements in the time of COVID-19: a mixed methods systematic review.

The COVID-19 pandemic triggered unprecedented challenges to the clinical education of healthcare students. Although alternative clinical placements were developed and introduced, it is unclear whether students successfully acquired interprofessional competencies required to be collaborative practice-ready healthcare workers. We examined interprofessional collaboration competency acquisition from adapted and alternative clinical placements that were made available to pre-qualification healthcare students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Information searches from online databases and supplementary

Anopheles mosquito fauna, blood meal sources and transmission intensity from high and moderate malaria endemic areas of Ethiopia.

This study investigates malaria vector dynamics in Lare and Asendabo, southwestern Ethiopia, areas with limited entomological information. From July to December 2021, mosquitoes were collected from 56 randomly selected houses using Pyrethrum Spray Catches, CDC light traps, and Human Landing Catches. Blood meal sources (human, bovine, goat) and circumsporozoite proteins (CSP) were detected via Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), and mosquitoes were analyzed for physiological state, and Plasmodium infection. The entomological inoculation rates (EIR) for Anopheles gambiae s.l. and An. fun

Stromal-Like Cells and Retinal Pigment Epithelium Modulate Choroidal Sprouting Through Galectin-1-Dependent and Independent Pathways.

Outer retinal function depends on two supporting tissues: the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and the choroid. Limited molecular information is available on the intercellular networks that sustain RPE/choroid tissue in both healthy and pathological states. Galectin-1 (Gal1), a β-galactoside-binding lectin, has recently emerged as a key regulator of angiogenesis and a potential therapeutic target in vascular pathologies, including age-related macular degeneration. Here, we studied the expression of Gal1 in the outer retina and its regulatory role in the RPE/choroid under physiological and path

Using community-based participatory research to contextualize Latino exposure to community violence: A mixed qualitative and spatial analysis approach.

While the relationship between community violence exposure and maladaptive outcomes has been established, the dynamic between violence exposure and resilience factors in youth is not well understood. The current study utilizes a community-based participatory research (CBPR) framework and employs a novel mixed-methods approach integrating quantitative geographic information systems (GIS) data and semi-structured qualitative focus groups to examine violence exposure, family functioning, and neighborhood characteristics, such as community assets, as experienced and reported by Latino adolescents.

Material-Sensitive and Thickness-Resolved Transmission Imaging Using Coherent Extreme Ultraviolet Radiation.

Microscopy with extreme ultraviolet (EUV) radiation enables high-resolution imaging with excellent material contrast because of the short wavelength and numerous element-specific absorption edges available in this spectral range. Table-top high-harmonic generation (HHG) sources offer the additional advantage of generating wide spectra in the EUV and soft X-ray range, making them inherently well-suited for characterizing nanostructures. As lens-based EUV imaging is challenging, lensless imaging methods based on coherent diffraction offer practical advantages and can even allow for quantitative

Social Inequalities in Dog Bites and Strikes in Scotland: Evidence from Administrative Health Records and Implications for Prevention Policy.

This paper reports findings on the social patterning of dog bite injuries in Scotland and discusses their implications for prevention policies. Previous studies have shown evidence of social inequalities in dog bites in other countries, but this analysis provides new evidence about Scotland. Three sources of health record data are used (NHS 24 (telephone) records, accident and emergency department records, and hospital admissions records). The records span the period of 2007-2019 and combine information on 59,111 health records involving injuries caused by dogs (from 48,599 different individua

Coordination of distinct sources of excitatory inputs enhances motion selectivity in the mouse visual thalamus.

UNLABELLED: Multiple sources innervate the visual thalamus to influence image-forming vision prior to the cortex, yet it remains unclear how non-retinal and retinal input coordinate to shape thalamic visual selectivity. Using dual-color two-photon calcium imaging in the thalamus of awake mice, we observed similar coarse-scale retinotopic organization between axons of superior colliculus neurons and retinal ganglion cells, both providing strong converging excitatory input to thalamic neurons. At a fine scale of ∼10 µm, collicular boutons often shared visual feature preferences with nearby retin

Molecular characterisation of Coxiella burnetii dairy cattle strains in Estonia.

Coxiella burnetii (C. burnetii), an obligate intracellular zoonotic bacterium, causes abortions, stillbirths, and birth of premature and weak offspring in animals. Sheep and goats, are considered important reservoirs of infection for humans. In Estonia, C. burnetii is detected serologically in domestic ruminants with the prevalence being significantly higher in dairy cattle herds than that in beef cattle herds and sheep flocks. Furthermore, C. burnetii DNA has previously been identified in dairy cattle. This study explored the genetic characteristics of C. burnetii strains to identify possible

The consensus of the Asociación Mexicana de Gastroenterología on the diagnosis and treatment of gastroesophageal reflux and gastroesophageal reflux disease in infants.

Gastroesophageal reflux (GER) is a frequent normal phenomenon in children of any age. It is more common in infants, in whom the majority of episodes are short-lived and cause no other symptoms or complications, differentiating it from gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The diagnosis and management of GER and GERD continue to be a challenge for the physician. Therefore, the aim of the Asociación Mexicana de Gastroenterología was to adapt international documents to facilitate their adoption by primary care physicians, with the goal of standardizing quality of care and reducing the number of
