INTRODUCTION: Postoperative neuropathic pain (NeP) is common after surgery for cervical ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (cOPLL) and may affect clinical outcomes. The PainDETECT questionnaire (PDQ) is a widely used tool for evaluating NeP, while the Spine PDQ (SPDQ) was developed to improve specificity for spinal disorder-related NeP. This study aimed to evaluate postoperative NeP using PDQ and SPDQ and to examine their associations with clinical scores.
METHODS: A total of 234 patients (170 men and 64 women; mean age, 61.9 years) who underwent cOPLL surgery were analyzed a

INTRODUCTION: Given the increasing prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM), understanding its impact on anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) revision risk is important for clinical decision-making and patient counselling. This study evaluated whether DM is associated with an increased risk of revision ACLR within 5 years of primary reconstruction.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective observational cohort study using a global federated health research network (TriNetX, Cambridge, USA), including 73,951 patients who underwent primary ACLR across 53 healthcare organisations, of whom 99

Confidence is an important part of psychological recovery after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, but what it means to have confidence in the knee may differ between athletes. Persistent lack of knee confidence is associated with poorer outcomes but may reflect a range of concerns, including reinjury, knee function, and sporting performance. Understanding what is driving a lack of knee confidence may help us identify how best to address it during rehabilitation.

Median arcuate ligament syndrome (MALS) is atypical in elderly patients, in whom it frequently coexists with severe atherosclerotic disease. We report the case of a 77-year-old male with marked mitral regurgitation who presented with intestinal claudication and malnutrition. CT angiography demonstrated MALS associated with a fusiform aneurysm of the celiac trunk with dissection, along with 60% atherosclerotic stenosis of the superior mesenteric artery. Given the limiting ischemic presentation, the patient underwent laparoscopic release of the ligament. The procedure was complicated by avulsion

Previous work suggests that people with mobility impairments move differently in the traditional gait laboratory than in natural environments, but the extent to which this possible divergence may have limited understanding of gait following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) remains unknown. We hypothesized that 1) patients following ACLR walk more asymmetrically in daily life than in the laboratory and 2) differences between patients following ACLR and individuals with no gait pathologies would be more pronounced in daily life than in the laboratory. Twelve participants (six pos

BACKGROUND: Ulnar collateral ligament sub-apophyseal avulsions are increasingly prevalent among youth baseball players, yet knowledge regarding avulsive changes in asymptomatic athletes is sparse. Ultrasound offers a minimal-risk method of assessing potential damage from repetitive valgus stress encountered during the throwing motion.
HYPOTHESIS/PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate asymptomatic elbows in youth baseball players for evidence of sub-apophyseal avulsive changes and to compare sports participation characteristics, patient-reported outcomes, humeral retrotorsion angle

Background/Objectives: Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, often combined with anterolateral ligament reconstruction, requires accurate anatomical positioning of bone tunnels, which is a key determinant of surgical success. In current clinical practice, postoperative radiographs are routinely performed for both medico-legal and clinical purposes. The objective of this study is to analyze the content of early postoperative radiology reports following ACL ± ALL reconstruction and assess their clinical relevance regarding tunnel positioning, as well as the terminology used to describe surg

BACKGROUND: Previous biomechanical studies have shown that suture tape augmentation (STA) in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) can improve the graft which can translate to reduced failure rate in a clinical setting. Previous meta-analysis did not show benefits to STA in patients undergoing ACLR. However, the included studies were retrospective and are subject to heterogeneity which can result in confounding bias. By including only prospective and matched retrospective studies, this meta-analysis will assess the benefits of STA in patients undergoing ACLR.
METHODS: Following the

The metabolism and remodeling of alveolar bone are highly active, which dynamically respond to mechanical force. However, the mechanism of how alveolar bone responds to mechanical force remains elusive. Orthodontics is essentially a physiological process of mechanical force-driven alveolar bone remodeling. Here, we demonstrated that orthodontic tension promoted the expression of glycolysis-related genes in periodontal ligament (PDL) fibroblasts. The mechanoactivated glycolysis subsequently enhanced lactylation on histone H3 lysine 18 (H3K18la) in PDL fibroblasts. CUT&Tag analysis revealed that

BACKGROUND: Prior post-anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) running studies have primarily examined discrete amplitude outcomes of electromyographic signals during short running protocols. This study conducted a comprehensive examination of both amplitude and frequency characteristics across the entire electromyographic signals from lower extremity muscles between individuals with and without ACLR during a 30-min run.
METHODS: Twenty individuals with ACLR and 20 matched healthy controls participated. Electromyography data of the rectus femoris (RF), vastus medialis (VM), semitendi

Individuals with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and pronated feet (ACLR-PF) often display abnormal running ground reaction forces (GRFs), which are associated with higher re-injury risk and post-traumatic osteoarthritis. While foot orthoses (FOs) are used to influence biomechanics, their effectiveness at various post-operative stages in this group remains unknown. This study aimed to evaluate the immediate impact of different FOs on GRFs during running in males with ACLR-PF at 6-, 12-, and 18-months post-operative, compared to a healthy control group. This controlled laboratory stud
