Penile lymphoma is a very rare neoplasm. We report the case of an 82-year-old man who presented with phimosis. The patient also complained of frequent and painful urination. Upon examination a painless penile ulcer and multiple enlarged inguinal lymph nodes were found. The shaft of the penis and the prostate were hard on palpation. Abdominal and transrectal ultrasound examination confirmed the involvement of the penis shaft and the prostate and also revealed involvement of the urinary bladder. Biopsy showed diffuse, large B-cell lymphoma. The patient was treated with systemic chemotherapy with

Research on the primary thyroid lymphoma (PTL) diagnosis is limited, with only a few large sample size studies, reported from Asian countries. The aim of the present study was to clarify the current prevalence and challenges in PTL diagnosis, and recommended ancillary studies for PTL in non-Western countries. PTL (n = 153) cases were retrieved from 10 institutions in non-Western countries and analyzed. Ultrasound examination (UE) and fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) were used as main preoperative diagnostic tools in all participating institutions. Flow cytometry (FCM) was performed in th

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to assess clinicopathological characteristics and outcome in a series of primary ocular adnexal lymphomas (POALs).
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Nineteen patients with localised (stage IE) POAL were followed for a median of 96 months (24-156). The diagnosis was based on surgical biopsies followed by immunohistochemistry in 16 cases or fine-needle aspiration followed by immunocytophenotypic analysis in three cases. Twelve patients were treated with local radiotherapy (RT), five with chemotherapy (CT), and two refused further therapy after apparently radical tumour

BACKGROUND: In clinical trials in the USA, IDEC-C2B8 (a mouse-human chimeric anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody) has demonstrated high response rates with only mild toxic effects in relapsed B-cell lymphoma at a dose of four weekly 375 mg/m2 infusions. The aim of the present trial was to determine whether or not this dose is practically applicable to Japanese patients with relapsed B-cell lymphoma with respect to safety, pharmacokinetics and efficacy.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients with relapsed CD20+ B-cell lymphoma received intravenous infusions of IDEC-C2B8 once a week for four weeks. A total o

On rare occasions, secondary Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated B-cell lymphoma can develop in patients with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL). Here, we describe the tumor microenvironment and mutation features of a patient with EBV + large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL) secondary to AITL. He was admitted to hospital due to a 1-year history of fever and enlarged right inguinal lymph nodes. A biopsy of the right inguinal lymph node demonstrated that numerous diffuse medium-sized atypical lymphocytes proliferated, together with increased extrafollicular follicular dendritic cell meshwork, and t

Relapsed/refractory non-Hodgkin lymphoma (r/r/NHL) is an aggressive disease with overall poor response rates to chemo-immunotherapy and autologous stem-cell transplant, especially in patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. Major improvements in this disease space have come through the incorporation of novel immune therapies, including CD19/CD20 directed CAR-T cells and bispecific antibodies. These exciting new therapies continue to change the landscape of treatment for r/r NHL and have been incorporated in earlier lines of therapy with demonstrated efficacy and patient safety. In this rev

The clinicopathological and biological significance of Hodgkin's disease and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, which are infrequently encountered in women of childbearing age, remains to be clarified. We recently reviewed 4 cases of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of the T/natural killer (T/NK)-cell phenotype, all of which were associated with pregnancy and characterized by the expression of the cytotoxic granule-associated proteins T-cell intracellular antigen-1 and/or granzyme B. The 4 cases selected had presented between November 1993 and May 1999. The criteria for selection were that the onset of clinical ma

Colonic involvement by non-Hodgkin lymphoma is uncommon and can closely mimic colorectal adenocarcinoma on endoscopic and radiological grounds. We report the case of a 56-year-old woman presenting with abdominal pain and anemia, in whom colonoscopy revealed a large cecal mass extending into the ascending colon. Histological and immunohistochemical evaluation confirmed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma of non-germinal center phenotype. Staging studies revealed extensive nodal involvement, including supradiaphragmatic lymphadenopathy, establishing stage IV disease inconsistent with a strictly primar

PURPOSE: The major cause of death in aggressive lymphoma is relapse or nonresponse to initial therapy. Lenalidomide has activity in a variety of hematologic malignancies, including non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). We report the results of a phase II, single-arm, multicenter trial evaluating the safety and efficacy of lenalidomide oral monotherapy in patients with relapsed or refractory aggressive NHL.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients were treated with oral lenalidomide 25 mg once daily on days 1 to 21, every 28 days, for 52 weeks, until disease progression or intolerance. The primary end point was

Background and Objective: Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), a subtype of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, is the most common lymphoid malignancy in the Western world. Treatment of DLBCL has been greatly improved in recent years with the addition of the monoclonal antibody Rituximab to the gold standard CHOP (cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin hydrochloride, vincristine sulfate, and prednisone) chemotherapy regimen, but these treatments are often ineffective in patients with highly aggressive disease or patients of advanced age. While CAR-T cells have further advanced the treatment landscape of DLBCL, t

This article will focus on the cutaneous lymphoproliferative disorders associated with EBV, with an emphasis on the upcoming changes in the revised 4th Edition of the WHO classification of tumors of the hematopoietic system, many of which deal with cutaneous disorders derived from NK-cells or T-cells. Extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma usually presents in the upper aerodigestive tract, but can involve the skin secondarily. EBV-associated T- and NK-cell lymphoproliferative disorders (LPD) in the pediatric age group include the systemic diseases, chronic active EBV infection (CAEBV) and systemic EBV+

A phase 2 study of the oral farnesyltransferase inhibitor tipifarnib was conducted in 93 adult patients with relapsed or refractory lymphoma. Patients received tipifarnib 300 mg twice daily on days 1-21 of each 28-day cycle. The median number of prior therapies was 5 (range, 1-17). For the aggressive B-cell, indolent B-cell, and T-cell and Hodgkin lymphoma (HL/T) groups, the response rates were 17% (7/42), 7% (1/15), and 31% (11/36), respectively. Of the 19 responders, 7 were diffuse large B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), 7 T-cell NHL, 1 follicular grade 2, and 4 HL. The median response dura

Neoplastic infiltration of the omentum is mostly caused by metastatic ovarian, gastric, colon, or pancreatic cancer. Lymphomatous infiltration of the omentum is rare because the omentum lacks a lymphoid component. To date, lymphomatous involvement of the omentum has only been reported in patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Peritoneal lymphomatosis remains a rare presentation of malignant lymphoma characterized by diffuse peritoneal lesions and is frequently accompanied by ascites and mesenteric lesions. In this review, we aimed to illustrate the case of a 72 year old mal patient diagnosed with

A 55-year-old woman who had a chief complaint of left abdominal and back pain. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer associated with splenic metastasis (Stage IVb) by CT and MRI study and was treated with chemotherapy of gemcitabine (GEM). Chemotherapy was discontinued due to adverse event (grade 3). CT study at this point reveals the effectiveness of GEM. The tumor was localized, and an operation was performed. The tumor was diagnosed as primary malignant lymphoma (diffuse large B-cell lymphoma) of the spleen. The splentic tumor is extremely rare, so a surgical treatment was indicated for

The breast is an uncommon site of development of extranodal non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). Both primary and secondary involvement of the breast have been reported. A 36-year-old woman diagnosed with NHL underwent multimodality imaging for staging of the disease. CT of the chest revealed no significant abnormalities. Whole-body FDG PET imaging showed intense FDG uptake in the left breast. Cytologic examination confirmed breast involvement by diffuse large B-cell NHL. Although rare, breast involvement characterized by increased FDG uptake can occur in patients with lymphoma. This case highlights th

BACKGROUND: Chronic HCV infection leads to a complex interplay with adaptive immune cells that may result in B cell dyscrasias like cryoglobulinemia or lymphoma. While direct-acting antiviral therapy has decreased the incidence of severe liver damage, its effect on extrahepatic HCV manifestations such as B cell dyscrasias is still unclear.
METHODS: We sequenced B cell receptor (BCR) repertoires in patients with chronic HCV mono-infection and patients with HCV with a sustained virological response (SVR) after direct-acting antiviral therapy. This data set was mined for highly neutralizing HCV

We report a case of refractory peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) successfully treated with a combination of fludarabine and cyclophosphamide (FLU/CY). A 68-year-old man with concurrent PTCL and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma was treated effectively with 3-course CHOP (cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisolone) therapy, but PTCL relapse occurred and was resistant to ESHAP (etoposide, methylprednisolone, cytarabine, and cisplatin) therapy. FLU/CY therapy led to complete remission, which was maintained for almost 14 months after a single course. We concluded that a FLU/CY regime

A 69-year-old man was admitted due to chronic subdural hematoma. He had lymphadenopathies in the neck. The diagnosis of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (diffuse, large, B cell type) was made by a cervical lymph node biopsy. The renal failure by obstruction of the urinary tract developed gradually, and the tumor cells were found by urinary cytodiagnosis. He was treated immediately with chemotherapy. After the treatment, the urine volume increased and the general conditions improved. It was indicated from this case that the urinary cytodiagnosis is useful for the detection of urinary tract infiltration by
