The Role of the Complement C3-Hippocampus Pathway in Relation With Mood Symptoms in Offspring of Parents With Bipolar Disorder.

OBJECTIVE: Accumulative research indicates key roles of the peripheral inflammation system and hippocampal function in major mood disorders. The complement system modulates inflammatory function and is abnormal in mood disorders, but its precise neural pathway remains unclear. This study investigates the interrelations among complement component 3 (C3) levels, hippocampal function, and mood symptoms among offspring of bipolar disorder (BD) parents who carry familial risk of mood disorders. METHOD: We recruited unaffected BD offspring with (symptomatic offspring, SO, N = 31) or without (asympt

Patients with anorexia nervosa perceive higher emotional connectedness to their parents than bulimia nervosa patients independent of objective family factors.

BACKGROUND: Psychological constructs of individual autonomy (IA) and emotional connectedness (EC) differ between patients with anorexia nervosa (AN) and bulimia nervosa (BN); however, it is unclear whether objective family factors modulate these associations. METHODS: In a cohort of 445 participants from the FamFINED study (FAMily Factors INvolved in Eating Disorders) with eating disorders (EDs) diagnosed as AN (n = 232) or BN (n = 213), we assessed objective psychosocial family factors as well as the IA and EC constructs using the self-rated Subjective Family Image Test (SFIT) questionnaire.

Potential acceptance of HPV vaccination at ages 9-10 in the United States among parents of HPV vaccine-naïve children.

This study explored attitudes/perceptions among parents who have not yet agreed to HPV vaccination for their 11-12-y-old children. US parents/guardians were recruited from a consumer panel for this online, cross-sectional survey. Parents (≥18 y) were eligible if their oldest child was 11-12, participated in their child's vaccine decisions/visit, had not decided on, or would refuse the HPV vaccine, and understood English. Parents were excluded if their child had medical conditions affecting eligibility for HPV vaccination or if they declined to provide consent. Sampling quotas were used for par

Preworkout Consumption of Chicken Essence Elicits Post-Exercise Hypotension in Prehypertensive Offspring of Hypertensive Parents: A Crossover Randomized Controlled Trial.

Chicken essence (CE) is known for its antihypertensive properties. However, few studies have investigated the effects of CE in prehypertensive individuals. Here, we conducted a randomized crossover clinical trial on prehypertensive offspring of hypertensive parents to evaluate the effects of preworkout CE consumption (CEC) on post-exercise hypotension (PEH) and cardiac autonomic and vascular responses. Ten prehypertensive males participated in three randomly ordered sessions: a resting control (REST) condition and two exercise conditions involving CEC and an exercise control (CON). The partici

Are school settings restricting access to daily physical activity for children with cystic fibrosis? Parents' perspectives and recommendations for practice.

BACKGROUND: Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a genetic life limiting disease that impacts upon quality of life. An aim of CF care is to preserve lung function, with physical activity (PA) being an important part of daily airway clearance. Ensuring children have opportunities to engage in PA at school should be an important part of their daily routine. It is important to gain parental perspectives on this, as they manage the daily care for their children. This study aims to explore parents' perceptions of school-based PA for their children with CF. METHODS: Parents of children with CF (n = 10), from th

Using network analysis to identify factors influencing the heath-related quality of life of parents caring for an autistic child.

BACKGROUND: Raising an autistic child is associated with increased parenting stress relative to raising typically developing children. Increased parenting stress is associated with lower parent wellbeing, which in turn can negatively impact child wellbeing. AIMS: The current study sought to quantify parenting stress and parent health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in the autism context, and further understand the relationship between them by employing a relatively novel statistical method, Network Analysis. METHODS AND PROCEDURES: This cross-sectional study involved 476 parents of an autist
