BACKGROUND: A vesical calculus in a prolapsed cystocele is rare.
OBJECTIVE: To highlight bladder calculi as a cause of irreducible uterine prolapse.
CASE REPORT: A case of irreducible total uterine prolapse caused by multiple vesical calculi is presented. Bladder stones were removed through vaginal cystolithotomy followed by vaginal hysterectomy.
CONCLUSION: In cases of acute irreducible pelvic organ prolapse, the possibility of bladder stones should be kept in mind and X-ray pelvis including the prolapsed mass should be done to confirm the diagnosis.

Osteopoikilosis is a rare, hereditary disorder of bone tissue. Most frequently this abnormality is asymptomatic and diagnosed incidentally on the basis of X-ray images, taken on other occasions. The characteristic radiographic appearance consists of oval or round, well-defined osteosclerotic foci in various sites of skeleton (pelvis, hands and feet, epiphyses of long bones). In the present paper a case of inborn osteopoikilosis in 23-year-old female patient is described. Typical bone abnormalities founding in her mother implicate an inherited character of this disorder.

Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is a standard tool for imaging the gastrointestinal tract and adjacent structures. EUS-guided fine-needle aspiration (FNA) allows the endosonographer easy access to these structures for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. We describe a case of metastatic lesion, adherent to a stented right ureter, which was imaged with transrectal EUS, with successful cytologic identification after EUS-guided FNA. EUS and EUS-guided FNA can be valuable tools in the evaluation of some soft-tissue abnormalities of the pelvis.

Sarcomatoid renal cell carcinoma is an uncommon tumour in human beings, and osteogenic differentiation is a rare feature. This report describes such a case in a male dog aged 8 years. The tumour, which showed extensive osseous metaplasia and a few necrotic areas, protruded into the renal pelvis, disrupting the renal capsule. Light microscopical and immunohistochemical examination revealed the epithelial nature of the tumour. Abnormal liver biochemistry, mild hepatocyte degeneration and the absence of histological evidence of metastasis suggested a paraneoplastic hepatopathy.

We were interested in whether or not the biomechanical status of the hip influences the course of avascular necrosis of the femoral head. To investigate this, we used a computer aided system based on a three dimensional mathematical model for determining the stress distribution in the hip joint from standard anteroposterior rentgenographs (X-ray images) of both hips and pelvis. Based on the results of our study, we suggest that the biomechanical parameters of the hip play an important role in the outcome of treatment of hips affected by avascular necrosis of the femoral head.

A three-year-old child presented with imperforate anus. A local perineal procedure was performed at birth, possibly without repairing the fistula. The child later presented with severe anal stenosis, which required a divided sigmoid colostomy. The child later presented at the age of two years with multiple radio-opaque shadows in the pelvis. These proved to be enteroliths, which had developed in the distal rectal stump possibly due to a large associated recto-urethral fistula with associated urinary stasis.

Retroperitoneal tumors are occasionally encountered by gynecologists, and differential diagnosis from adnexal tumors is important, however, it is difficult in many cases. We report a case in which we preoperatively diagnosed a benign solid tumor in the retroperitoneum of the pelvic cavity on the basis of a variety of diagnostic images, including FDG-PET. An 81-year-old man was referred to the authors for examination of the gastrointestinal tract. A proctoscopy revealed a draining sinus tract in the terminal rectum. The paper presents a simple and cheap method of transvaginal hydro-laparoscopy used for the observation women pelvic organs. The method may be useful to diagnose sterility, indefinite pains the pelvis or to control the patients previously undergoing operations. Hydro-laparoscopy was carried out in 12 patients by means of a modified 3 mm hysteroscope equipped with modified Verres needle. The method worked successfully in 10 cases. The quality of the endoscopic pictures od pelvic organs was satisfactory. No complications during the operation or convalescence were observed.

A case of cystic rectal duplication (RD) is presented. A 7-day-old female was admitted with acute urinary retention, voiding difficulty, and abdominal distention since she was 4 days of age. Ultrasound and abdominal computed tomography (CT) demonstrated a huge, cystic mass in the pelvis and abdomen that resulted in acute urinary retention and bilateral hydronephrosis. CT-guided drainage of the lesion followed by transabdominal surgical excision resulted in a cure. Pathologic examination demonstrated a RD lined by respiratory epithelium.

We report a case of Churg-Strauss syndrome complaining of gross hematuria. A 74-year-old man was admitted to our hospital for further examination of gross hematuria. Abdominal CT and retrograde pyelography revealed left renal pelvic tumor, and left nephrectomy was performed. There was no tumor, but submucous hemorrhage was seen in the renal pelvis. The histopathologic diagnosis was allergic granulomatous angitis. The administration of prednisolone was done, but he suddenly died of acute heart failure after 1 month postoperatively.

We hereby describe the technique and our experience of a single-staged repair of bladder exstrophy and epispadias in two newborn males. The combined repair improves dissection and exposure of the bladder neck, posterior urethra and prostate, allowing better exposure for reconstruction and proper positioning in the pelvis. We report two cases of pseudogout after parathyroidectomy by primary hyperparathyroidism. The pseudogout in each instance developed within 48 hours after parathyroid adenoma resection. Calcium supplement therapy, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and colchicine (1 mg/day) suppressed the acute attack. The chondrocalcinosis is often asymptomatic or undiagnosed, for that, preoperative radiological studies of the knees, wrists and pelvis are recommended to screen for chondrocalcinosis. We advocate also, therapy with colchicine (1 mg/day, oral) in the prophylaxis of postoperative pseudogout.

A case of a CA19-9-producing ureteral cancer is reported. A 58-year-old man presented with gross hematuria. Retrograde pyelography showed an irregular filling defect in the right ureter. The serum CA19-9 level was 932 U/ml (normal < 37). Right total nephroureterectomy was performed. The histological diagnosis was grade 3 transitional cell carcinoma. Immunohistochemical analysis showed CA19-9 to be expressed not only in the cancer cells but also in the normal transitional cell epithelium of the renal pelvis.

Scrotal scintigraphy has become a relatively uncommon examination in many nuclear medicine departments. However, scrotal perfusion is visualized during three-phase bone imaging of the pelvis and hips. The authors present a compilation of three cases of hip pain secondary to unsuspected scrotal pathology documented on routine three-phase bone scintigraphy, discussing this topic for the first time in the literature. A short review of the pathophysiology of referred hip pain, differential diagnosis, and imaging alternatives emphasize the unique contribution of nuclear imaging.

A case of pure neurinoma of the retroperitoneal space developing in the pelvis is described. This tumor (phi max, 15 cm) responsible for intense compressive symptomatology involving the pelvic organs, was at first mistaken for a uterine fibroid. The ultimate diagnosis both of neurinoma as well as every other neoplasm originating in the retroperitoneum can sometimes be very hard to obtain. Those tumors can indeed be misdiagnosed for other more common conditions both clinically and instrumentally and the rarity of this particular localization adds further trouble to the matter.

Gastrointestinal (GI) duplications contain tissue resembling several portions of the GI tract and are associated with vertebral and genitourinary (GU) abnormalities [1-4]. We report a newborn with low, imperforate anus and lumbosacral dysraphism, who presented with a large cystic mass in the left renal fossa and pelvis. The flank mass (felt initially to be a dysplastic kidney and ureter) proved to be a complex GI duplication with histologic evidence of gastric, small bowel, and colonic mucosa, as well as respiratory epithelium and pancreatic tissue.
