Harnessing deep learning to monitor people's perceptions towards climate change on social media.

Social media has become a popular stage for people's views over climate change. Monitoring how climate change is perceived on social media is relevant for informed decision-making. This work advances the way social media users' perceptions and reactions towards climate change can be understood over time, by implementing a scalable methodological framework grounded on natural language processing. The framework was tested in over 1771 thousand X/Twitter posts of Spanish, Portuguese, and English discourses from Southwestern Europe. The employed models were successful (i.e., > 84% success rate) in

Eleven firefighters participated in the interviews. The data was analyzed using a thematic approach. The high-PTSS group displayed symptoms such as re-experiencing, avoidance, and hyperarousal, which impeded their daily functioning and occupational performance. The low-PTSS group recognized these symptoms as a natura

Perceptions and experiences of the prevention, testing, and treatment of anaemia in pregnant women: A qualitative evidence synthesis.

Anaemia during pregnancy is a serious public health problem, inequitably burdening women in low-and middle-income countries. Despite numerous strategies and programs, anaemia prevalence rates have stagnated. We aimed to explore women's, health workers', and other key stakeholders' perceptions of anaemia in pregnant women, or their experiences with its prevention, testing, or treatment. We conducted a qualitative evidence synthesis. We searched MEDLINE (Ovid), Scopus, and CINAHL from inception to 12 November 2024, with no language or geographical restrictions. Data were analysed using thematic

Background/Objectives: Knowledge about the relationship between diabetes and periodontitis is lacking in individuals diagnosed with type I diabetes. To enhance oral health and reduce the risk of oral diseases, healthcare professionals, both dentists and endocrinologists, should educate and motivate patients to treat periodontitis and its complications as soon as possible. The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge of type I diabetic patients about the relationship between periodontal disease and diabetes. Methods: A cross-sectional, single-center study was carried out on 80 patients fro

PURPOSE: To explore: (1) Whether parental perceptions predicted children's understanding of how to use a power wheelchair (PWC), as assessed via the Assessment of Learning Powered mobility use (ALP) across a study period, and (2) Relationships between child characteristics and ALP scores. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Data for this prospective observational study were collected during an open-label, single-arm clinical trial wherein children participated in a three-week PWC skills training intervention. Semi-structured parental interviews were conducted at baseline (T0) and post-intervention (T1). T

Cognitive loopholes of crime: Mapping the Codevelopment of moral disengagement within perceptions of risks and rewards.

Prior research has examined individuals' perceptions of punishments (PP) and rewards (PR) for crime, as well as their use of moral disengagement (MD), to understand why adolescents and young adults commit crimes. However, the joint development of these cognitions as a broader risk-perception mechanism remains understudied. This paper explores the independent and relational development of these processes in justice-involved youth. Data from 1,170 male participants (42.1% Black, 34.0% Hispanic, 19.2% White, 4.6% Other) in the Pathways to Desistance study were analyzed using a three-variable auto

Provider Attitudes and Perceptions on Using Artificial Intelligence in Colonoscopy: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Colonoscopy is the gold standard screening modality for colorectal cancer; however, it is operator-dependent and reliant on exam quality. Incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) into colonoscopy may improve adenoma detection and clinical outcomes, but this is a sociotechnical challenge that requires effective human-AI teaming incorporating provider attitudes. METHODS: We conducted a systematic review of studies evaluating attitudes and perspectives of providers toward AI-assisted colonoscopy. Participant responses to outcome questions of interest were combined across t

Framing resident perceptions of diversity in GME: insights from a multi-specialty survey study.

BACKGROUND: Despite growing efforts to address diversity in healthcare, underrepresentation persists. While many studies about diversity focus on medical students, residents occupy a unique position as both learners and educators, influencing institutional culture from multiple levels. OBJECTIVE: To characterize resident physician perceptions of diversity in medical training, identify differences in perceived importance of various diversity attributes, and examine how these perceptions and preferences differ between Underrepresented in Medicine (URiM) residents and non-URiM residents. METHOD

[Transphobia in Brazil in the context of the pandemic: perceptions and actions of political groups that defend the trans population].

The COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil was marked by a set of measures to contain the virus, which had specific repercussions in different social groups, especially the most vulnerable, such as transvestites and transgender individuals. The aim of the present article was to investigate the particularities of transphobia in Brazil in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the actions of organizations and political groups in this scenario. The novelty and relevance of this study is evident by the scarcity of investigations focused on understanding the transphobic phenomenon in the context of a

Clinical anatomy remote learning: A mixed methods analysis of learning outcomes and student perceptions.

The COVID-19 pandemic provided a unique opportunity to assess remote Clinical Anatomy. Conversion of the donor dissection laboratory to asynchronous videos, combined with synchronous laboratory review and lecture, provided an alternative to face-to-face (F2F) learning. Two cohorts, 2019 (n = 104) and 2020 (n = 102), of dental and physician assistant (PA) students received F2F and remote instruction, respectively. Summative assessment items and low-stakes exam scores from both cohorts were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis tests with Dunn's post hoc analysis. The Clinical Anatomy Online Survey was

Navigating alcohol's impact: A mixed-methods analysis of community perceptions and consequences in Northern Tanzania.

BACKGROUND: Worldwide, alcohol is a leading risk factor for death and disability. Tanzania has particularly high rates of consumption and few resources dedicated to minimizing alcohol-related harm. Ongoing policy efforts are hampered by dynamic sociocultural, economic, and regulatory factors contributing to alcohol consumption. Through the voices of Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) patients, this study aimed to investigate community perceptions surrounding alcohol and the impact of its use in this region. METHODS: This mixed-methods study was conducted at KCMC between October 2021
