Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) and Cardiovascular Dysfunction - Unraveling the Link: A Narrative Review.

Sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) represents a major cause of mortality in individuals with epilepsy, accounting for 8-17% of epilepsy-related deaths. Its multifactorial pathogenesis implicates autonomic dysfunction, impaired heart rate variability, seizure-related arrhythmias, genetic channelopathies, and the potential influence of antiepileptic drugs. Epidemiological studies demonstrate increased SUDEP risk in patients with refractory epilepsy, poor seizure control, and polytherapy, with additional contributions from genetic predisposition and sleep-related seizures. Cardiac abnorm

Is burnout in home care professionals associated with older adult client outcomes? Exploring depressive symptoms, pain, health-related quality of life, and the moderating role of dependency.

BACKGROUND: As populations age, home care is becoming increasingly important. Demanding working conditions in this strained sector may contribute to burnout; however, little is known about whether burnout in home care organisations is associated with care recipients' outcomes. OBJECTIVES: The study investigated the association between personal, work-related, and client-related burnout levels in organisations providing home care and the progression of depressive symptoms, pain, and health-related quality of life among older adult care recipients after six months. It also examined the moderatin

Serum Levels of Prestin, Otoferlin, Connexin 26, and Stereocilin: A Biomarker Approach to Tinnitus.

OBJECTIVE: Tinnitus is a prevalent auditory disorder lacking objective diagnostic tools. An outer hair cell (OHC) protein, prestin, has been implicated in the pathophysiology of tinnitus. This study adopts a biomarker approach by quantifying serum levels of prestin, as well as functionally important inner ear proteins, otoferlin, connexin 26 (CX26), and stereocilin in individuals with and without tinnitus, to test the hypothesis that prestin plays a role in tinnitus. STUDY DESIGN: Observational cohort study. SETTING: Tertiary academic center. METHODS: In all, 82 participants (41 with chroni

Changes in Depressive Symptom Domains During Treatment with Accelerated and Conventional Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation.

Accelerated 5x5 repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS; five stimulation sessions per day for five days) is an effective treatment for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), and has efficacy comparable to conventional once-daily rTMS. Considering the heterogeneity of symptoms in patients with MDD, it is critical to determine how accelerated 5x5 and conventional rTMS affect depression symptom domains. We compared symptom change over time in patients treated with either accelerated 5x5 rTMS (25 total sessions, n = 40) or conventional once-daily rTMS administered over six weeks (30 total se

Applying protection motivation theory to assess collaboration, urban tree risks and storm management in the U.S.

Urban trees are vital components of urban societies and ecosystems, but their management is often contested by diverse and sometimes conflicting goals. As storm frequency and intensity increases, it is important to understand the factors that impact municipal level proactive and reactive storm responses to urban trees including pruning, removal, and emergency procedures. Therefore, we surveyed 920 urban forestry professionals in the Northeastern and Southeastern United States to assess their perceived storm threats, socio-demographic characteristics and whether their affiliated organizations h

Exploring the Mediating Role of Self-Efficacy in the Relationship Between Caregiver Contribution and Resilience in Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) affects not only patients but also their informal caregivers. Enhancing caregiver resilience may improve both caregiver well-being and patient outcomes. This study aimed to assess resilience levels in caregivers of individuals with IBD and identify key psychological and contextual predictors, including caregiver contributions to self-care, self-efficacy, and perceived care load. A multicentre cross-sectional study was conducted across nine IBD outpatient clinics in Italy. Caregiver resilience was measured using the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC 25).

The Shield and the Storm: Black Identity as a Moderator in the Relationship Between Racism-Based Police Violence and Police Contact Anxiety.

PURPOSE: Black emerging adults experience significant exposure to racism-based police violence (RPV), which may contribute to police contact anxiety (PCA). Black identity has been shown to buffer or exacerbate the psychological impact of racial stressors, yet its role in moderating the relationship between exposure to RPV and PCA remains unclear. This study examines the moderating effects of Black identity dimensions on the association between direct (a victim or in-person witness) and indirect (seen in media) exposure to RPV and PCA symptoms. METHODS: We recruited a purposive sample of 300 B
