Missed Opportunities for Human Papillomavirus Vaccine Prescription in French Military Primary Care: A KAP Survey With Scenario-Based Modeling.

INTRODUCTION: Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination prevents HPV-related cancers, yet uptake remains suboptimal. In France, routine vaccination targets early adolescence (11-14 years), with catch-up vaccination recommended up to age 26 years. Reimbursement extension to age 26 became effective in December 2025, after the present survey. Within the French Military Health Service (Service de Santé des Armées, SSA), HPV vaccines are generally not administered in primary care units; prevention therefore relies on identifying eligible service members and initiating vaccination through prescription

Re-establishing safer medical-circumcision-integrated initiation ceremonies for HIV prevention in a rural setting in Papua New Guinea. A multi-method acceptability study.

BACKGROUND: Efforts to stem the spread of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in Papua New Guinea (PNG) are hampered by multiple interrelated factors including limited health services, extreme diversities in culture and language and highly prevalent gender inequity, domestic violence and poverty. In the rural district of Yangoru-Saussia, a revival of previously ceased male initiation ceremonies (MICs) is being considered for a comprehensive approach to HIV prevention. In this study, we explore the local acceptability of this undertaking including replacing traditional penile cutting practices w

Epidemiology of Musculoskeletal Injuries of U.S. Coast Guard Academy Cadets During Initial Military Training From 2018 to 2023.

INTRODUCTION: Musculoskeletal Injuries (MSKIs) have a longstanding deleterious impact on the health of service members (SMs) and the readiness of the armed services. Although active duty branches of the military have reported historical injury rates and descriptive statistics, less is known about other armed services populations. Cadets at service academies undergo similar initial military training (IMT) as their active duty counterparts, however, rates and risk factors for sustaining a MSKI during training and its impact on the cadet are less known. The purpose of this study, therefore, was t

Integrating Cancer Education Into High School Curricula.

Cancer is a leading cause of death and its incidence is rising among younger populations, yet formal cancer education is rarely included in U.S. high school curricula. Adolescence is a critical period for establishing lifelong health behaviors, and emerging evidence suggests that school-based cancer education can improve knowledge, shift attitudes, and promote risk-reducing behaviors. In this narrative review, we summarize studies of high school and middle school cancer education programs, including curricula focused on cancer biology, modifiable risk factors (e.g., tobacco, alcohol, diet, phy

Rationale for Recommending Varicella Vaccination Into the Swedish National Immunisation Programme.

AIM: Under Swedish law, a vaccination may be included in the National Immunisation Programme (NIP) if it effectively prevents transmission in the population, is cost-effective and aligns with ethical and humanitarian principles. The Public Health Agency of Sweden (PHAS) evaluated these criteria for introducing varicella vaccination. METHODS: The evaluation included a literature review, disease modelling to assess dose timing, a health economic analysis and an ethical review addressing vaccine acceptance and equitable access. RESULTS: Varicella vaccines are safe and highly effective, providin

Understanding problematic versus non-problematic chemsex practices from a user's perspective: a qualitative study.

Chemsex is predominantly reported among men who have sex with men (MSM) and plays an important role in HIV transmission and prevention, being associated with heightened vulnerability to HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. While often used recreationally, chemsex is linked to physical and mental health harms. This study explores how participants define problematic chemsex and perceive contributing and protective factors. Semi-structured, in-depth interviews were conducted among MSM who had used at least one chemsex substance defined in this study. Participants were recruited between

One Health Approach on Dog Bites: Demographic and Associated Socioeconomic Factors in Southern Brazil.

Despite being an important public health issue, particularly due to rabies, dog bites and associated risk factors have rarely been assessed by health services from a One Health perspective. Accordingly, the present study aimed to assess dog biting and associated demographic and socioeconomic risk factors in Curitiba, the eighth-largest Brazilian city with approximately 1.87 million people, based on the post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) rabies reports between January/2010 and December/2015. The total of 45,392 PEP reports corresponded to an average annual incidence of 4.17/1000 habitants, mainly

Understanding Mechanisms Driving Family Homeless Shelter Use and Child Mental Health.

Homeless shelters throughout the U.S. are overcrowded and under-resourced. Families with children face substantial barriers to timely, successful shelter exit, and prolonged shelter stays threaten child mental health. This community-based system dynamics study explored barriers to timely, successful shelter exit and feedback mechanisms driving length of stay and child mental health risk. Group model building - a participatory systems science tool - and key informant interviews were conducted with clients (N = 37) and staff (N = 6) in three family homeless shelters in a Midwestern region. Domestic Violence Against Men-Prevalence and Risk Factors.

BACKGROUND: According to the World Health Organization (WHO), intimate partner violence is among the major risks to women's health around the world. Men, too, can be victims of domestic violence; like female victims, they tend to present initially with their injuries to a family physician or an emergency room. Domestic violence against men is thus a relevant issue for physicians of all specialties. METHODS: This review is based on publications retrieved by a comprehensive, selective search in the PubMed database and with the Google Scholar search service, as well as on a retrospective analysi

The future of drugs: recreational drug use and sexual health among gay and other men who have sex with men.

There are complex historical connections between sexual minoritisation and desires to chemically alter bodily experience. For gay men, drug and alcohol use can be a creative or experimental response to social marginalisation - and not necessarily a problematic one in every instance. Numerous studies have found that infection with HIV and other sexually transmissible infections (STIs) is more likely among gay and men who have sex with men (MSM) who use recreational drugs than those who do not, but the causal nature of these relations is uncertain. Sexualised drug use is associated with a range

CDC-funded HIV testing, HIV positivity, and linkage to HIV medical care in non-health care settings among young men who have sex with men (YMSM) in the United States.

In the United States, HIV infection disproportionately affects young gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men, aged 13-24 years (collectively referred to as YMSM), specifically black YMSM. Knowledge of HIV status is the first step for timely and essential prevention and treatment services. Because YMSM are disproportionately affected by HIV, the number of CDC-funded HIV testing events, overall and newly diagnosed HIV positivity, and linkage to HIV medical care among YMSM in non-health care settings were examined from 61 health department jurisdictions. Differences by age and race/eth
