Post-discharge persistent symptoms and health-related quality of life after hospitalization for COVID-19.

OBJECTIVE: To assess post-discharge persistent symptoms and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of patients hospitalized in a COVID-19 ward unit more than 100 days after their admission. METHODS: All eligible patients were contacted by phone by trained physicians and were asked to answer to a dedicated questionnaire. Patients managed in hospital ward without needing intensive care were compared with those who were transferred in intensive care units (ICU). RESULTS: We included 120 patients after a mean (±SD) of 110.9 (±11.1) days following admission. The most frequently reported persisten

Seizure detection devices and health-related quality of life: A patient- and caregiver-centered evaluation.

INTRODUCTION: The unpredictability of epilepsy has a severe impact on health-related quality of life (HR-QOL) for people with epilepsy. Seizure detection devices have the potential to improve HR-QOL by improving seizure safety, reducing caregiver hypervigilance, and reducing seizure anxiety. Emerging data have led to an improved understanding of characteristics that promote acceptability of detection devices for people with epilepsy and caregivers. However, whether usage of seizure detection devices is associated with clinically meaningful improvement in anxiety and HR-QOL remains poorly under

Blunt thoracic aortic injury and TEVAR: long-term outcomes and health-related quality of life.

PURPOSE: Treatment of blunt thoracic aortic injuries (BTAIs) has shifted from the open surgical approach to the use of thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR), of which early outcomes appear promising but controversy regarding long-term outcomes remains. The goal of this study was to determine the long-term TEVAR outcomes for BTAI, particularly radiographic outcomes, complications and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). METHODS: Retrospectively, all patients with BTAIs presented at a single level 1 trauma center between January 2008 and December 2018 were included. Radiographic and cl

Multidimensional Geriatric Assessment with MAGIC Questionnaire and Quality of Life in Elderly Primary Care Patients.

The Manageable Geriatric Assessment (MAGIC) questionnaire, recently developed by a group of European family doctors for multidimensional geriatric assessment in primary care, has not yet been evaluated in clinical practice. The objectives of this study were to translate and adapt it to Spanish and to check the association between the limitations of older adults identified by this questionnaire and their perceived health status assessed by the five-level version of the EuroQol-5D (EQ-5D-5L). First, questionnaire translation, back translation and cognitive test were applied. Then, a cross-sectio

Clinical, psychological and quality of life differences in fibromyalgia patients from secondary and tertiary healthcare.

BACKGROUND: The 'funnel effect' of Fibromyalgia (FM) assumes that as patients access healthcare services, they present greater severity and a more complex clinical situation than individuals with FM from the general population, but the studies comparing patients treated in different levels of healthcare are scarce. The aim of this study was to analyse the 'funnel effect' hypothesis by comparing patients from secondary and tertiary healthcare services. METHODS: A cross-sectional sample of female patients was selected in secondary (rheumatology practices - RP) and in tertiary healthcare (chroni

ILD-specific health-related quality of life in systemic sclerosis-associated ILD compared with IPF.

INTRODUCTION: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and systemic sclerosis-associated interstitial lung disease (SSc-ILD) are fibrotic ILDs with divergent disease populations. Little is known about health-related quality of life (HRQL) in SSc-ILD relative to IPF. METHODS: We used the Kings Brief Interstitial Lung Disease Questionnaire (K-BILD) to compare HRQL in a cross-sectional study of 57 patients with IPF and 29 patients with SSc-ILD. Analysis of covariance was used to adjust for age, gender and lung function. RESULTS: The unadjusted mean K-BILD score was 63.1 (95% CI 57.1 to 69.1) among p

Patient Wellbeing and Quality of Life After Nasoseptal Flap Closure for Endoscopic Skull Base Reconstruction.

BACKGROUND: The endoscopic endonasal approach to the skull base avoids some of the surgical morbidity associated with a transcranial approach, however it often results in large skull-base defects requiring secure closure. The nasoseptal flap has become the preferred method for closure of such defects but may be associated with its own morbidity. METHODS: A consecutive cohort of patients with skull base pathology with prospectively collected quality of life data using ASBQ and SNOT was analysed. They were grouped into those who received a nasoseptal flap and those who did not. Pre-operative to
