Cross-sectional analysis of the quality of hemodialysis short videos on TikTok.

The global prevalence of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) ranges from 9.1% to 13.4%, with China having the largest number of CKD and advanced CKD patients in Asia. Most patients choose hemodialysis (HD) due to its high safety. Still, long-term treatment may cause complications such as restless legs syndrome and skin itching, which seriously affect patients' quality of life. Recently, the Internet has gradually become the main medical and health information source. As one of the largest short-video platforms in China, TikTok is an important source for spreading health information. However, the reli

Serum Endocan as a Predictor of Survival and Cardiovascular Events in Patients Without Diabetic Kidney Disease on Chronic Haemodialysis: A Prospective, Observational Study.

Background and Objectives: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is an increasingly significant global public health issue, with cardiovascular disease being the leading cause of mortality. Endothelial dysfunction plays a critical role, but diagnostic tools have certain limitations. Endocan, a soluble proteoglycan, emerged as a promising endothelial dysfunction marker and potential major adverse cardiovascular event (MACE) predictor in haemodialysis (HD) patients. Materials and Methods: In this single-centre, observational, prospective study, non-diabetic HD patients without prior MACEs were monitored.

INTRODUCTION: People with kidney failure experience severe, often intractable symptoms, which affect quality of life. These symptoms are often unacknowledged and difficult to treat due to few treatment options being available. The use of cannabinoids to treat symptoms of long-term medical conditions is increasing worldwide. However, there is a paucity of data on the experiences of people using cannabis to treat the specific symptoms of kidney disease. METHODS: We conducted a qualitative semistructured interview study involving patients who had used either prescribed or nonprescribed cannabis

Association between serum beclin 1 level and cardiac valvular calcification in hemodialysis patients.

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular calcification is a pervasive issue throughout chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression. Autophagy, a fundamental cellular process, exerts significant influence on various cardiac pathologies, including arrhythmias, atherosclerosis, heart failure, and notably, valvular, and vascular calcifications. Beclin-1, a crucial eukaryotic protein, plays a major regulatory role in autophagy as part of the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K) complex. Recent evidence suggests a protective role for Beclin-1-mediated autophagy in CKD vascular calcification, raising its potential as

Barriers and facilitators to the transplant process among patients living with polycystic kidney disease: a qualitative Approach.

BACKGROUND: Kidney transplant is the gold standard for renal replacement therapy in patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), which is the fourth leading cause of kidney failure. Despite the medical and economic benefits of preemptive kidney transplant over dialysis before transplant, only 9-21% of qualifying patients receive preemptive transplants. Given the low rates of preemptive transplant, the aim of this study was to determine perceived facilitators and barriers to preemptive transplant among ADPKD patients using a qualitative approach. METHODS: Data were colle
