Effects of deferred prosecution on psychological well-being in individuals with substance use disorders.

Deferred prosecution treatment is a legally restrictive alternative to incarceration for individuals with substance use disorders (SUDs). The present study examined efficacy of treatment, and psychological outcomes in individuals undergoing deferred prosecution. We evaluated patients with SUDs under deferred prosecution by retrospectively reviewing their treatment records over three years. Outcome measures and predictors were assessed through pre- and posttreatment psychological evaluations. Statistical analyses included Pearson's chi-squared test, independent t-test, generalized estimating eq

The Diagnosis and Management of Patients With Findings Consistent With a Breast Implant Associated-Somatic Symptom Disorder (BIA-SSD).

BACKGROUND: Psychological factors seem to play a significant role in the perception and magnification of somatic symptoms in patients with breast implant illness (BII). Further, recent studies have shown that some patients with self-reported BII have findings consistent with a breast implant-associated somatic symptom disorder (BIA-SSD). The aim of this work was to provide guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of BIA-SSD. METHODS: Findings from the current literature combined with both surgical and psychological therapeutic principles were used to develop methods for diagnosing and manag

Impact of artificial intelligence in managing musculoskeletal pathologies in physiatry: a qualitative observational study evaluating the potential use of ChatGPT versus Copilot for patient information and clinical advice on low back pain.

BACKGROUND: The self-management of low back pain (LBP) through patient information interventions offers significant benefits in terms of cost, reduced work absenteeism, and overall healthcare utilization. Using a large language model (LLM), such as ChatGPT (OpenAI) or Copilot (Microsoft), could potentially enhance these outcomes further. Thus, it is important to evaluate the LLMs ChatGPT and Copilot in providing medical advice for LBP and assessing the impact of clinical context on the quality of responses. METHODS: This was a qualitative comparative observational study. It was conducted with

Living with Sjögren's Syndrome: An Analysis of YouTube Vlogs on the Autoimmune Disease.

People who experience symptoms of autoimmune diseases often have to struggle for illness recognition. Women experiencing such symptoms face additional challenges as their accounts of pain are frequently treated with skepticism. This study examines experiences of people living with Sjögren's Syndrome, an autoimmune disease which is primarily diagnosed in women, by conducting an analysis of individual vlogs posted on YouTube using the themes of gender, chronic illness and neoliberal governmentality. Sjögren's Syndrome is the second most common rheumatic disease after rheumatoid arthritis and aff

Development of an intrinsic health risk prediction model for camera-based monitoring of older adults living alone.

The number of older adults in Korea is increasing, along with the number of depressed older patients. The causes of depression in older adults include social isolation with negligible interaction with others, irregular nutritional habits, and self-negligence, i.e., they do not engage in any activity. These factors, self-negligence, social isolation, and irregular nutritional habits, are defined as inherent health risks, and in this study, we detected them. These factors can only be derived through long-term monitoring, but the current monitoring system for older adults is severely limited as i

Non-Prescribed Buprenorphine in New York City: Motivations for Use, Practices of Diversion, and Experiences of Stigma.

Non-medical use of opioid analgesics (OAs) has increased in the United States over the past decade. Concurrently, access to opioid agonist therapies (OATs) such as buprenorphine has expanded. However, there has been little in-depth qualitative exploration into circumstances surrounding buprenorphine diversion and non-prescribed use. This study reports on qualitative data from in-depth interviews conducted with persons in New York City reporting non-medical OA use in the past 12 months. Participants (n=42) were aged between 18 and 49 years. The majority were male (n=29) and non-Hispanic White (

Experiences and perceived determinants of healthcare-related time toxicity among women with gestational diabetes mellitus: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) requires women to attend follow-up visits and complete repeated self-management tasks during pregnancy. These tasks include blood glucose monitoring, meal planning, physical activity, health education and medication when needed. They may create a time-related burden in daily life. However, little is known about women's experiences of healthcare-related time toxicity during GDM management. This study aimed to explore women's experiences of healthcare-related time toxicity and the perceived factors shaping these experiences. METHODS: A qualitative
