INTRODUCTION: We report here two cases of Agrobacterium radiobacter bacteremia. These cases were observed at the same institution over a short time period (3 months).
CASE REPORTS: The first patient was a female cancer patient receiving third-line chemotherapy for ovarian carcinoma. When she developed bacteremia, she was neutropenic and had an indwelling catheter that was removed as part of the treatment. The second case was a geriatric patient admitted from home with bacteremia, clinical signs of septic shock, and concomitant acute cholecystitis.

In this preliminary study we assessed the feasibility and efficiency of non-invasive ventilation (NIV) with a buccal mask (NIV-BM), not fitted with a mouthpiece, in surgical patients in acute respiratory failure whose lungs could not be ventilated with a face mask. In the eight patients enrolled in the study, NIV-BM increased tidal volume, decreased respiratory rate and improved PaO2. In two patients the trachea had to be intubated and one of them died of septic shock. Albumin infusions are given far from always on the correct indications, and often there are alternatives that are cheaper and equally suitable. The number of pregnancies after renal transplantation and immunosuppression is relative low. Since the introduction of a most effective medication, Cyclosporin A, there is not only an increasing improvement of the transplantation results, but there are also more reports on successfully concluded pregnancies. This report pertains to a 26-year old primigravida, whose pregnancy progressed without severe complications until the 33rd week of gestation. Then a sudden and rapidly worsening preeclampsia led to admission and delivery. The postoperative period was complicated by a severe septical shock.
