Clinical, serological and genetic predictors of response to immunotherapy in anti-IgLON5 disease.

Anti-IgLON5 disease is a newly defined clinical entity characterized by a progressive course with high disability and mortality rate. While precise pathogenetic mechanisms remain unclear, features characteristic of both autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases were reported. Data on immunotherapy are limited, and its efficacy remains controversial. In this study, we retrospectively investigated an anti-IgLON5 disease cohort with special focus on clinical, serological and genetic predictors of the immunotherapy response and long-term outcome. Patients were recruited from the GENERATE (German N

Too tired to think: Relationship between post-COVID-19 fatigue and cognition in a veteran sample.

COVID-19 survivors often endorse persistent physical and neuropsychiatric problems following disease recovery, a phenomenon described as "long COVID." Research exploring long-COVID continues to evolve in large-scale studies but remains limited among smaller populations (e.g., veterans). We explored the relationship between persistent post-COVID-19 fatigue and cognition among a sample of 246 veterans who voluntarily enrolled in a COVID-19 Convalescence Programme and completed a mental health evaluation of post-illness mood (depression, anxiety, PTSD), cognition (subjective complaints, Modified

[Sleep disorders related to HIV treatment.].

OBJECTIVE: HIV Clinical Guidelines have positioned integrase inhibitors recently as first-line treatment. However, two of these drugs have also been associated with adverse side effects on the central nervous system, especially with sleep disturbances. The objective was to analyse the influence of bictegravir and dolutegravir on the sleep quality in HIV patients. METHODS: An observational, cross-sectional study was carried out between December 2020 and January 2021 in HIV patients attended in a pharmacy care clinic. Demographic and adherence variables were collected. Sleep quality was measure

Early postoperative psychological distress as a mediator of subsequent persistent postsurgical pain outcomes among younger breast cancer patients.

PURPOSE: Younger age is a risk factor for worse pain outcomes following breast cancer surgery, yet little is known about how younger women's psychological state may contribute to their pain experience. Using prospectively collected longitudinal data from a surgical cohort, we examined whether early postoperative psychological distress at 2 weeks mediated the association between younger age and subsequent worse pain-related functioning 3 months after surgery. METHODS: Patients (N = 159) were recruited before breast cancer surgery into this longitudinal cohort study. Age at time of surgery, psy

Personality and Sleep Evaluation of Patients with Tinnitus in Japan.

In Japan, there have been no examinations of tinnitus with respect to personality traits, and only a few studies have investigated sleep disorders in tinnitus. Understanding the association between these can aid in selecting and developing effective treatment options for patients with tinnitus. This study aimed to clarify the relationship between tinnitus severity, personality, and sleep disorders, in patients with chronic tinnitus in Japan. We retrospectively evaluated the personality factors of 56 patients presenting with tinnitus using the NEO Five-Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI), which examines

Sleep dysfunction following neonatal ischemic seizures are differential by neonatal age of insult as determined by qEEG in a mouse model.

Neonatal seizures associated with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) pose a challenge in their acute clinical management and are often followed by long-term neurological consequences. We used a newly characterized CD-1 mouse model of neonatal ischemic seizures associated with age-dependent (P7 vs. P10) seizure severity and phenobarbital efficacy (i.e.; PB-resistant vs. PB-efficacious respectively) following unilateral carotid ligation. The long-term consequences following untreated neonatal seizures in P7 vs. P10 ligated pups were investigated using neurobehavioral testing, 24 h v- quantita
