Synthetic biology aims to design new biological systems for predefined purposes, such as the controlled secretion of biofuels, pharmaceuticals, or other chemicals. PURPOSE: To study the efficacy of a single drug in patients with primary open angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension who were receiving timolol XE 0.5%, latanoprost 0.005% and brinzolamide 1% with its discontinuation.
METHODS: Sixty patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension who were administered timolol XE, latanoprost, and brinzolamide were studied. The altered gating of the mutant CFTR chloride channel cystic fibrosis (CF) may be corrected by small molecules called potentiators. We present a molecular scale simulation system for the discovery of ΔF508-CFTR soluble potentiators. Results report the design, ADME-Tox prediction, synthesis, solubility determination and in vitro biological evaluation of two 1,4-dihydropyridines (DHPs). A pseudotype baculovirus with the glycoprotein of vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV-G) on the envelope was used as a vector for the construction of recombinant baculovirus expressing the G protein of rabies virus (RABV) under the cytomegalovirus (CMV) promoter. The generated recombinant baculovirus (BV-G) efficiently expressed the RABV G proteins in mammalian cells. A series of neutral, 5-coordinate pyrrolyldipyrrinato Sn(IV) complexes have been synthesized via reaction of a pyrrolyldipyrrin, or its corresponding hydrochloride salt, with dibutyltin or diphenyltin oxide. The complexes are structurally unique in that all three nitrogen atoms of the pyrrolyldipyrrinato ligand bind to the tin center, making these complexes the first examples of pyrrolyldipyrrins behaving as LX(2) ligands. The complexes are highly fluorescent, exhibiting fluorescence quantum yields between 0.28 and 0.61, and display interesting preliminary biological activity.

Premature ovarian failure is a relatively common clinical condition, and carries important long-term health consequences. Estrogen replacement is recommended to alleviate unpleasant hypo-estrogenic symptoms and reduce long-term health risks. However, the most suitable form of estrogen replacement, and the exact effects of no treatment, is unknown. Surprisingly, little research has been carried out in this area. We describe the design of an ongoing clinical trial that will address these issues so that we can begin to provide evidence-based care for affected women.

We compared latanoprost monotherapy therapy with timolol/ dorzolamide in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma to evaluate the effects on intraocular pressure (IOP) and occurrence of adverse events. IOP and topical side effects were evaluated at the beginning, first, and third months. Mean IOP was decreased at the third month. The most common side effect was hyperemia (43.6%). We concluded that latanoprost reduces IOP better than fixed combination and its topical side effects are tolerable.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of substituting latanoprost(LAT) 0.005% for unoprostone(UNO) 0.12% after a trial of unilateral treatment.
METHODS: We treated 30 patients with primary open-angle glaucoma(n = 8), ocular hypertension (n = 1), or normal-tension glaucoma(n = 21) with UNO for 4 weeks in one eye and then substituted LAT for UNO. Four weeks later we measured the intraocular pressure(IOP) in the ipsilateral eye.
