PURPOSE: To determine the most frequently cited articles relating to ice hockey since 2000 and conduct a bibliometric analysis of these publications. METHODS: The Clarivate Web of Knowledge database was used to gather data and generate a list of publications relating to "ice hockey" on June 20, 2022. Articles were filtered by the total number of citations accrued and were included or excluded on the basis of relevance to ice hockey; no date of publication, language, or journal restrictions. After the 50 most highly cited articles were identified, articles published before the year 2000 were e

Effect of Different Frequencies of Electroacupuncture on Chronic Low Back Pain in Older Adults: A Triple-blind, Placebo-controlled, Randomized Clinical Trial.

BACKGROUND: Acupuncture is one of the most widely used therapies to treat chronic low back pain, whose analgesic effect seems to be potentiated by the addition of electric current (electroacupuncture). However, we are not aware of any clinical trial that has evaluated the effectiveness of this technique in adults > 65 years. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of electroacupuncture in the treatment of chronic low back pain in the elderly. STUDY DESIGN: Triple-blind, controlled, and randomized clinical trial. The serum steroid signature of PCOS hints at the involvement of novel pathways for excess androgen biosynthesis.

CONTEXT: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is defined by androgen excess and ovarian dysfunction in the absence of a specific physiological diagnosis. The best clinical marker of androgen excess is hirsutism, while the best biochemical parameter is still a matter of debate. Current consensus guidelines recommend, among other hormones, serum free testosterone as an important serum parameter to measure androgen excess. Recently, however, novel active androgens and androgen metabolic pathways have been discovered. OBJECTIVE: To assess the contribution of novel androgens and related steroid biosyn

Derivation and validation of clinical prediction rules for diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis: a prospective cohort study.

OBJECTIVES: Infectious mononucleosis (IM) is a clinical syndrome that is characterised by lymphadenopathy, fever and sore throat. Although generally not considered a serious illness, IM can lead to significant loss of time from school or work due to profound fatigue, or the development of chronic illness. This study aimed to derive and externally validate clinical prediction rules (CPRs) for IM caused by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). DESIGN: Prospective cohort study. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS: 328 participants were recruited prospectively for the derivation cohort, from seven university-affiliate

Study protocol of the BASINEL Study: a pragmatic randomised controlled trial investigating treatment versus no treatment of low-risk basal cell carcinomas in older persons.

INTRODUCTION: Basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) represent 70% of all skin cancers. These tumours do not metastasise but are locally invasive if left untreated. There is a high incidence of BCC in the elderly, and clinicians frequently face important treatment dilemmas. The approach to BCC in the elderly should be investigated thoroughly. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: Data on health-related quality of life (HrQoL), survival and complication rate will be examined in a treatment and a non-treatment arm (1:1 allocation). In the non-treatment arm, in vivo biological behaviour of low-risk BCCs in elderly patien

Effects of sandplay therapy in reducing emotional and behavioural problems in school-age children with chronic diseases: A randomized controlled trial.

PURPOSE: Children with chronic diseases exhibit a higher incidence of emotional-behavioural problems. Though sandplay therapy is a universally recognized psychological treatment method, experimental evidence for this form of therapy is lacking. Our aims were to examine the effectiveness of sandplay therapy in reducing emotional and behavioural problems in school-age children with chronic diseases as well as anxiety and depression in their caregivers. DESIGN AND METHODS: A total of 60 children and their caregivers were enrolled in the present study between January and October 2019. A randomize

Compression therapy using surgical gloves does not prevent paclitaxel-induced peripheral neuropathy: results from a double-blind phase 2 trial.

BACKGROUND: Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a common adverse effect of paclitaxel (PTX). There is no known prophylactic measure, although there are some reports of prevention with compression therapy using surgical gloves. On account of its predominantly subjective symptoms, it is difficult to exclude bias when assessing for CIPN. In this study, we assessed the effectiveness of the same procedure for the prevention of paclitaxel-induced PN based on a double-blind study design. METHODS: The patients with early and recurrent breast cancer (with no prior PTX exposure) initia

Clinical and molecular predictors of fibrotic progression in essential thrombocythemia: A multicenter study involving 1607 patients.

The current retrospective study involving a total of 1607 patients was designed to identify clinical and molecular variables that were predictive of inferior myelofibrosis-free survival (MFS) in WHO-defined essential thrombocythemia (ET), utilizing three independent patient cohorts: University of Florence, Italy (n = 718); Mayo Clinic, USA (n = 479) and Policlinico Gemelli, Catholic University, Rome, Italy (n = 410). The Florence patient cohort was first examined to identify independent risk factors for MFS, which included age > 60 years (HR 2.5, 95% CI 1.3-4.9), male sex (2.1, 1.2-3.9), palpa

OBJECTIVE: Species-related differences in the prevalence, manifestation, and outcome of neonatal illness may impact management practices of neonatal intensive care. The study aimed to elucidate similarities between disease manifestations and mortality risks of critically ill (CI) neonatal crias and foals admitted to the same referral center. DESIGN: A comparative, retrospective cohort evaluation of two species (camelid and equine). SETTING: The study was conducted in a University hospital. Assessment of the potential effect of the implementation of serological testing tick-borne encephalitis on the detection of this disease on areas considered as non-endemic in Poland - preliminary report.

INTRODUCTION: In Poland, the number of reported cases of tick-borne encephalitis, and thus the designation of the regions of TBE occurrence, seems to be underestimated. AIM OF THE STUDY: The aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of the implementation of TBE virus infection tests in the routine diagnostics of patients with neuroinfections of undetermined viral etiology on the identification of TBE virus infections in areas considered non-endemic and finding new areas of TBE occurrence. Proton pump inhibitor utilisation and potentially inappropriate prescribing analysis: insights from a single-centred retrospective study.

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to characterise the prescribing patterns and evaluate the appropriateness of the prescribed proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) in adult patients via a review of electronic medical records in a single-centred hospital. DESIGN: All patients admitted to the outpatient department of Jinshan Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai, between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2018 were evaluated. Use of real-time multiplex PCR, malaria rapid diagnostic test and microscopy to investigate the prevalence of Plasmodium species among febrile hospital patients in Sierra Leone.

BACKGROUND: Malaria continues to affect over 200 million individuals every year, especially children in Africa. Rapid and sensitive detection and identification of Plasmodium parasites is crucial for treating patients and monitoring of control efforts. Compared to traditional diagnostic methods such as microscopy and rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs), DNA based methods, such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR) offer significantly higher sensitivity, definitive discrimination of Plasmodium species, and detection of mixed infections. While PCR is not currently optimized for routine diagnostics, its r
