The impact of tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) on voiding function was studied in a cohort of 103 patients. Voiding was assessed with quality of life questionnaires, non-invasive urine flow and voiding pressure-flow studies both preoperatively and 1 year postoperatively. Paired t-tests and Wilcoxon's signed ranks tests were used for analysis. Data from 65 patients were analyzed. Subjective voiding function did not change; however, maximum flow rates decreased by up to 43%: from 29 ml/s to 16 ml/s on free flow studies. OBJECTIVE: To assess the validity and reproducibility of a fiberoptic transducer urodynamic catheter for urethral closure pressure profiles and leak point pressure determination, using a microtransducer catheter as the standard.
METHODS: Ninety women without significant pelvic organ prolapse underwent urodynamic evaluations with both fiberoptic and microtransducer catheters. New trends have emerged in the management of urologic disorders that commonly present after 40. Surgical treatment of stone disease has largely been replaced by reliable nonoperative methods. Advances have been made in the design of penile prostheses. New concepts of the natural history of urinary tract infection and incontinence have made diagnosis and treatment more effective and less costly. Lack of progress in treating disseminated urologic cancer has reinforced the urgency of prompt diagnosis and treatment.

In a series of 44 boys operated on for urethral valves more than 10 years ago two died. In the surviving patients, hydronephrosis and hydroureters improved markedly in 4/5, infection disappeared in 3/4, renal function seemed to normalize in more than 1/2. All valves arose from the anterior wall of the prostatic urethra. Consequently, transurethral resections were done anteriorly. Preoperative treatment was restricted to temporary correction of dehydration and acidosis for some hours or a few days. Otherwise, uremia is no contraindication.

AIMS: To understand the properties of lower urinary tract disorders in women, we evaluated 60 female patients with lower urinary tract disorders or symptoms of recurrent cystitis by free uroflowmetry and video urodynamics using transrectal ultrasonography (VU-TRUS).
