Pre-operative cross-sectional imaging of chest, abdomen, pelvis is not cost-effective for low-grade endometrial cancer.

OBJECTIVE: Increasing numbers of patients are presenting with metastatic burden of endometrial cancer. Currently, guidelines recommend that pre-operative imaging for surgical planning be guided by patient symptoms, risk assessment, and clinical suspicion for disease. Cross-sectional computerized tomography (CT) imaging is not recommended for low-grade disease due to the low risk of distant spread in this group; however, longitudinal data has demonstrated a marked increase in the utilization of preoperative CT imaging in this patient population over the last decade. METHODS: In this cost-effec

Fresh-cut watermelon: postharvest physiology, technology, and opportunities for quality improvement.

Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus L.) fruit is widely consumed for its sweetness, flavor, nutrition and health-promoting properties. It is commonly commercialized in fresh-cut format, satisfying consumer demand for freshness and convenience, but its shelf-life is limited. Despite the potential for growth in fresh-cut watermelon sales, the industry faces the challenge of maintaining quality attributes during storage. Fresh-cut processing induces a series of physiological and biochemical events that lead to alterations in sensory, nutritional and microbiological quality. A signal transduction cascad

The Association Between Female Breast Size, Backache, and Quality of Life in Young Women: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background and Objectives: The association between female breast size and spinal back pain is widely suggested in clinical practice but remains insufficiently quantified in general, non-surgical populations in the scientific literature. Larger breasts may increase biomechanical strain on the spine, contributing to musculoskeletal pain and reduced quality of life. This study aimed to evaluate the association between breast size and back pain in a general orthopedic population of young women. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 200 women aged 18-36 who attended ort

The impact of integrative medicine on quality of life in patients with diabetes mellitus and cancer.

PURPOSE: Integrative complementary medicine (ICM) combines complementary therapies with conventional supportive and palliative care to address quality of life (QoL). Diabetes mellitus (DM) is prevalent among patients with cancer and has been associated with worse health-related QoL. We examined the impact of an ICM program on QoL-related concerns among patients being treated for cancer, with vs. without DM. METHODS: This prospective, controlled and pragmatic study examined a 6-week ICM program, comparing DM to non-DM patients using the ESAS (Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale) and EORTC QLQ-C3

Investigating the events that predispose vulnerable and feared self-concepts in obsessive-compulsive disorder: A qualitative analysis.

OBJECTIVES: The feared self-concept, the self that a person fears they may be or could become, has been increasingly shown to drive the development and maintenance of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). It is proposed that the feared self develops from a vulnerable self-concept, which itself is a result of normative self-concept development being disrupted by negative early life experiences. However, it is currently unclear which experiences lead to the development of vulnerable self-concept in people with OCD. This study aimed to describe the events and life experiences that people with OCD
