PURPOSE OF THE RESEARCH: To describe the variability in practice regarding the management of vascular access ports in adult oncology patients at Spanish outpatient clinics and to evaluate its compliance with the recommended procedural guidelines.
METHODS AND SAMPLE: Three e-mailings or three postal mail-outs were sent to all Spanish outpatient clinics, in accordance with the hospital's preference. An additional fourth postal mail-out was made to all units. In total 185 units at Spanish outpatient clinics out of a total 256 completed the survey questionnaire.

PURPOSE: To report on intravitreal bevacizumab treatment for external beam radiation therapy (EBRT)-related radiation maculopathy.
METHODS: Three patients (4 eyes) with EBRT-related maculopathy were treated with periodic (4- to 8-week) intravitreal injections of bevacizumab (1.25 mg in 0.05 cc). BACKGROUND: Peritumoral brain edema (PTBE) may be crucial in the clinical outcome of meningioma patients. The underlying pathogenetic key mechanism has so far not been determined. Sex, age, tumor size, location, involvement of other structures, or the histological appearance was not found to sufficiently explain PTBE formation in meningiomas.

Ionizing radiation exposure is an inherent component of endovascular surgery. As procedures become more complex, greater radiation exposure is incurred by both staff and patient. Radiation doses during endovascular aneurysm repair are similar to those recorded during percutaneous coronary interventions. Ionizing radiation may cause skin injury, as well as increase the long-term risk of malignancy. Endovascular surgeons need to be aware of radiation hazards and take all reasonable steps to minimize the risks to both patients and staff.

Renal transplant recipients admitted on the medical take can be challenging for the clinician. Immunosuppressant medications, reduced renal functional reserve, increased vascular risk, and propensity to uncommon infections and malignancies all contribute to make management more complex than in other patients. Prophylactically removed ovaries from 64 women were compared with those from 30 women with no known family history of ovarian cancer for expression of the p53 tumor suppressor protein, the c-erbB-2 oncoprotein, and for the proliferation antigen Ki-67. Between 1979-1994 120 patients with acquired paralysis of cranial nerves of ocular muscles were treated: 33 cases with paralysis of oculomotor nerve, 43 cases with paralysis of trochlear nerve, 44 cases with paralysis of abducens nerve. OBJECTIVE: To present the outcomes of endoscopic endonasal surgery for giant pituitary adenomas and discuss the extent of resection to minimize morbidity and mortality.
