While resection of tracheobronchial segments has become a standard operation in adults, lesions of the carina in children are rare and their treatment is technically more demanding. This study examines recurrent psychosomatic symptoms and symptom clusters among 5th and 6th grade Israeli school children. A questionnaire which asked about the frequency of eight psychosomatic and eight organic complaints was administered to 259 students. This article presents the results of three studies as they relate to the influence of the family on adolescents' sex lives. The first study examined sexual and contraceptive practices among girls aged 12-19 in Mexico City. Thirty-seven patients from 8 months to 17 years of age were evaluated prospectively and retrospectively after sustaining gunshot wounds to the extremities. This review supports the belief that higher velocity weapons and shotgun-wound injuries cause greater morbidity, with increased length of hospital stay and increased cost of care. Late growth abnormalities were related to recognized initial physeal injury and not to unrecognized physeal injury. Immediate neurologic deficits usually resolved partially or fully, without surgical treatment.

Nineteen children and adolescents, mean age 9.6 +/- 1.2 years, underwent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). Indications for ERCP were cholestasis in 11 cases, suspected pancreatic disease or trauma in 8 cases. Because radiographs are often not obtained, these injuries may commonly be dismissed as sprains and strains. With rare exceptions, avulsion fractures can be treated conservatively- much, in fact, like a sprain or strain. However, because a 'fracture' is involved, an accurate diagnosis generally helps ensure compliance, avoiding the possibility of nonunion or malunion.
