Cell penetrating peptides (CPPs) are small sequences that can cross cell membranes. Arg and Trp are highly prevalent amino acids in natural and synthetic efficient CPP sequences. Purple urine bag syndrome (PUBS) occurs predominantly in chronically catheterized and constipated patients. This syndrome is associated with bacterial urinary tract infections that produce sulfatase or phosphatase. Deficiencies in glucose 6-phosphate (G6P) transporter (G6PT), a 10-helical endoplasmic reticulum transmembrane protein of 429 amino acids, cause glycogen storage disease type 1b. The effects of barbiturates and straight-chain aliphatic alcohols on the responses of rat striatal neurons to excitatory amino acids have been investigated. This study presents information on the biochemical composition (dry weight basis), nutritional aspects, and angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory properties of selected macroalgae (Ulva compressa, Ulva rigida, Gelidium microdon, and Pterocladiella capillacea) from Azores. The novel insecticidal toxin, LaIT2, was isolated from venom of the scorpion Liocheles australasiae. The amino acid sequence of LaIT2 was determined by an Edman degradation analysis and subsequent cDNA cloning.
